Like where else can you get your feet soaked for 15 min and then massaged for 10? An American place could never. I got hard pressure and my masseuse def identified and worked on my knots. I woke up sore but looser the next day. Few things to note: - Price is super affordable $45 for an hour - You stay clothed but they'll unhook your bra and lift your shirt up. My friend suggested wearing a sports bra if you're uncomfortable with this - There's a semi private, curtained off room for two people getting a massage but the other beds aren't private - It's pretty quiet! The owners are always friendly and offer authentic Chinese massage that I always prefer over western style. What I usually get is a foot massage and a whole body message combo. I love getting reflexology/foot massages & do so almost weekly, so I was really excited to try Two Smiling Feet when things started opening up as it's close to my house. As I was walking in so was another man who wasn't wearing a mask. The Gov's requirement to wear a mask outside of our homes went into effect today so I was caught off guard. I asked if masks were required & they said yes, but didn't ask him to put a mask on. They were accommodating when I asked to be seated further away from him & closed the curtains between us. I can imagine business is probably slow all things considering so it wasn't a huge deal - I had a mask on & so did all of the employees. A woman started my massage and was great, I was really excited, but then I heard the maskless man ask "there aren't any girls" when a man started his massage & the woman who started my massage switched with the male employee. Unfortunately it was as if this man had never given a massage before. He alternated between vigorously rubbing my foot back/forth & kneading the bottom of my foot in the same spot with his knuckles for 2-3 minutes at a time. It was awful. I asked him to use more pressure because he was using a light touch - it didn't help. It was terrible & started hurting (not in a good way). I finally couldn't take it anymore, asked him to stop ~30 min into a 60 min massage, paid & left. The prices are right, the space is nice & maybe the other employees are great, but I've never ended a massage early. Wow! One of my better massages and I have massages every month. Technique is good. Pressing and rolling with arms rather than the elbows. I can feel the muscles spreading out as he presses on them. This was my first experience which this type of massage, and while i won't be rushing to get back there, for $40 ($35 plus $5 tip) it wasn't bad. No, it's not a Burke Williams massage, but it's also more than $100 cheaper. I liken it to a massage that a friend or partner might give you, but good luck finding someone who is willing to do it for an hour! Here, you keep all of your clothes on and they kind of massage you over it, often using a towel as a barrier. It's a bit awkward, but it works. I really enjoyed the foot massage and the head massage; the arms and legs and back were just kind of okay, and the chopping was rather unnecessary. They start you off with a warm foot soak while they massage your head, temples, neck. Then they work their way down. It's full head to toe attention. And at $30/hour, you really can't beat it. The amount of pressure my guy gave was just perfect. I do like it on the stronger side though. Everything was clean. And the massage bed was actually quite comfortable. I usually find the face cradles to be very uncomfortable and I actually strain my neck more, but theirs was just right. Hubby and I will definitely be back. They are so much fun here and make you feel so comfortable. My girlfriend and I go often and it's just always a hoot. I've also turned my husband onto it and he likes to go on a regular basis to. We called in about an hour ahead of time to make sure they had openings for two people, and headed over. All I have to say is OW! The next day I was so sore and felt worse then before walking in. We walked in and were surprised to be the only two people in the whole place. The two men greeted us and quickly sat us down in the communal room. We decided to go with the 60 min $45 massage that is pretty much full body. They asked no questions or had us sign no papers. The guys were brutally ruff and I had to ask multiple times to go lighter. At one point he was pressing down so hard on my back I felt like I couldn't breathe. I thought about walking out but decided to feel it out and didn't want to be rude. The massage had no technique, just pressing very hard and repetitive on multiple areas. The whole time I was just waiting for it to be over. The only thing that was mildly okay was the foot massage. Heads up: I left feeling worse then when I came in. Upon further inspection I realized they use Suave lotion for all massages which is very questionable in my opinion. For the price you get what you pay for. Decided to check out this location one night when the Fremont location had a 40m wait. I've found my new Go To Foot Spa - convenient drop-in availability and a wider range of services than others I've seen. You can still spend your $35 for an hour foot massage (and it's really quite good), or upgrade by $5 or $10 tiers to something more. I spent $50 on a 70- or 75-minute massage which was half upper body work. My shoulders get tense from my job and this is the best bang for your buck in the city. They work harder on my muscles than other massages places charging $60-$90/hr with private rooms. Not surprisingly, these types of places prefer that you pay and tip in cash but it's never been a big deal to me. Clean, quiet space with comfortable stations. Clean bathrooms, lots of stations so you don't need an appointment (but sometimes I still call in advance just to be sure). Street parking around Market Street and I always forget there's a shared parking lot behind the building (2h free). read more

Sigh, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. That's how the saying goes right? I have been in desperate need of a massage since my last failure at the Two Smiling Feet in Fremont, so what do I do? I book another massage at Two Smiling Feet... in Ballard! At least, when I walked into this establishment, it didn't reek of cigarettes. I booked a 75m full body massage and indicated that I wanted hard pressure. My shoulders and neck have been extremely tight after doing a 40hr road trip across country in a moving van. The guy at the front desk asked if I would prefer a female or male, and I said I didn't care as long as they used lots of pressure! He led me to a room to get undressed in and said that the massage therapist would be with my shortly. Honestly, this part of the experience was a bit uncomfortable. I had not finished changing and the massage therapist (f) comes in unannounced. She tells me that I can take off my underwear if I want since "we're both female." I just awkwardly laughed and responded that it wouldn't be necessary. I then noticed that they have a SECURITY CAMERA in the massage room... which I found a bit unconventional. Granted, I am not sure what angle it's pointing at, but all in all this seemed a bit strange. The massage itself was ... mediocre at best. The lady leaned over my back and her hair was just flopping all on my back, and her shirt rubbing against my head. There was no neck or shoulder work, but instead she just kept rubbing my back and occasionally putting extreme pressure on my spine. She took my asking for no pressure on my spine for low tolerance of pressure so the rest of the massage was just her rubbing circles on my back at fast speeds, to create heat I guess? I felt like she spent an insanely long time on my legs despite my telling her that I would like more focus on my neck and shoulders, that which I received zero attention. Honestly the face/head massage was the best part, and I would have preferred that for 75mins rather than what I received. I really should have walked out once I realized the massage was not what I was expecting at all. Will not be returning and would advise against anyone coming as well. read more

For $35 you get a good passage. It would be nice though if they asked you if you wanted a softer massage or hard massage, as needs are different for each individual. The first time I went, I had someone who smoked, so his hands smelled like smoke but the massage was great! I went back a second time and the girl that massaged me was good, but she was more delicate and I was hoping for a more deeper massage, but she had great smelling hands. All to say, it can be a hit or miss for the massage. They welcome you and have you start taking off your socks and shoes and then you lie down on your back. They soak your feet in warm water and the cushioned sofa table is heated. They do your front and flip you over on your stomach and do your back too. They even do your back with oils or lotion and a hot towel and dry towel towards the end. It is a good experience for $40 ($35/hr + $5/tip). read more

I just got back from my third visit to Two Smiling Feet since I moved to Ballard last summer and am confident in rating it with a solid 5 stars. I can't wait to go again. First, let's acknowledge what this place isn't. It's not some gourmet spa where every patron gets their own scented candle, singing bowl, and a menu of fancy massages to choose from. The masseuses have not run the gamut of training in Swedish/sports/shiatsu/cranio sacral/what-have-you fancy schmancy massage. You are paying $35. It's best to visit with a healthy modicum of common sense realism. What this place IS is affordable, relaxing, clean, and a damn smashing bang for the buck. I've had the pleasure of walking out of all my massages thus far feeling that the service was attentive and respectful. All of my masseuses have provided great pressure and seem to know just which spots of tension need some extra care. They are receptive to feedback. For example, my neck and shoulders were really stiff and I asked for less focus on the lower body and more on the upper. My masseuse started me off with a great scalp/neck massage before working on the rest of my body, then refocused on the neck and shoulders. If you want something specific that is reasonable, all you need to do is ask. I really appreciate how well kept the place is. I've been to some questionable open room massage places (noisy, crowded, the glare of TVs broadcasting sports games intruding through my closed eyelids) and this place is the best I've experienced so far. I love the ambience with the low but not creepy lighting, gentle music, and soft voices. They engage good hygiene practices (e.g., lining the foot baths in disposable plastic, paper covers for the face rests) and make sure you are warm and toasty throughout your massage. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that my bed was warmed. Either they added heating pads recently or the beds are heated and they weren't turned on my first two massages. Yes, as reviewer Jojo S. pointedly pointed out, English is a second language for many of the masseuses. You'd be a bit naive not to have known this beforehand and I hope you can sensitive and respectful, especially considering the peanuts you're paying to individuals who are working really hard to be successful in a new country. I've been going every other week for several months now. I get the 60 minute foot rub for $45 and it is beyond worth the price. They start with your feet in a tub of warm water and rub your shoulders, head and arms then move to the feet. It's transcendent, no joke. They have nice low mood music and the sound of running water to help soothe away your ailments. I'm pregnant and they always make sure that the table is comfortable for me.
