Yesterday, my elderly grandmother experienced the most stressful, chaotic and abusive move in her entire life. It's important to set the stage here and share some pertinent information: - She was moving from an independent living facility to an assisted living facility. Now, yes, that kind of transition can be difficult for older folks, but the relevance comes in with 3.2 km the amount of stuff that required moving. For month's prior, the great purge occurred, where anything that would not be needed in the new facility was sorted and donated. This left two dressers, a loveseat, a chair, a clock, one end table, small kitchen table with chairs, and a wall unit and 20-25 totes. Everything was packed, all that the movers were contracted to do was wrap and move furniture. - The move was booked with Jason C, on July 12th, with a quote of 3-5 hours (at $159.00 per hour) plus a truck, travel, equipment and basic coverage charge of $159.00. Also a fuel surcharge of 5%. This meant, if it took the full 5 hours it would be $795.00 + 159.00 = $954.00. A $100 deposit was paid in order to book, which would be deducted from the final bill. This quote also specifically says that the rate includes 2 professional movers. (Remember this, it's important!) - The plan, which had been communicated at the time of booking was that there would be two unloading sites, 1 being 3.2 km (7 minutes' drive) from the pick-up site, and 2 being the final destination and 4.9 km (13 minutes) from site 1. The truck, driven by Tom (who was not in uniform) arrived at 9:33 AM (booked to arrive between 9 and 10 AM). Immediately, the swamper/other mover (Jesse) gets right to work, moving the smaller stuff to the truck. He certainly was driven, which was incredibly helpful, because all Tom did was sit on his cell phone and argue with the person on the other end, after he wrapped a dresser and the clock. Frustrated in watching Jesse working his butt off solo, (and knowing that Tom's screw-around time on the phone was just doubling the cost of the move) my dad steps in to move to small items (a grocery cart and a walker) to the truck. Tom tells my mom to tell my dad to stop. Was it for liability purposes? Oh no, he said my dad that him helping was SLOWING HIM DOWN. Slowing him down from what? His uber-important phone conversations?? Finally, the first load is finished in TWO HOURS. Two hours to load 20ish easily stackable totes and 10 pieces of furniture. But of course, it takes that long when only one of the movers is doing their job. They then went to site 1 to unload some of the furniture, which took 25 minutes longer than it should have. It took them 40 minutes to travel 3.2 kilometres on what is typically a 7 minute drive. Upon arrival, Jesse gets out of the vehicle and begins moving the end tables and tried to move the wall unit on his own. Tom has yet to exit the vehicle, instead choosing to perform his very important phone calls, and have a social hour with a neighbour. This frustrated my aunt who was at site 1 to receive the large furniture, because the other mover Jesse, couldn't do it alone, so she told Tom that he needed to start helping Jesse to get it done. That she wasn't paying him to sit on the phone. His response? He was ONLY a driver and couldn't assist. Of course, she gets angry - she paid for TWO movers. She gets in touch with Randy, who is eager to get off the phone with my aunt, to speak to his driver. He wouldn't let her express her concerns whatsoever. Now don't get me wrong, I've worked many, many years in customer service, and I understand the annoyance of Karen's. But my aunt was not one of those, and if Randy had taken the time to at least HEAR the issues, things would have likely been resolved quickly. It's concerning that only the employees word goes. I'm sure he told them he was taking a quick 10-minute break and didn't disclose that he had been on the phone all morning, not doing his job. And I'm sure he didn't tell his boss he informed the customer he was only a driver. She asks to be escalated to Andy who also doesn't provide any customer service or resolution, but it does get Tom out of the vehicle to assist with moving the wall unit to the top of the stairs. Finally, what needed to be unloaded here is done, and the driver and the mover set off to site 2. This should have taken MAYBE 20 minutes, so why did it take them 45 minutes?? Keep in mind, that now, since we are past the 3-hour mark, time is charged in 15-minute increments, so that extra 25 minutes sure counted. They finally arrive at site 2, and shockingly, Tom carries in two things (one in each hand). When he sees my grandmother and mother in the suite the first thing Tom does is approach my mother and grandmother and with a cocky sneer says, "This move is going to take SOOOOOO long now". Do not recommend. 1. They charged my mom double time to drive from Willoughby to 210th in Maple Ridge. Hardly a long drive. 2. They insisted they could move her piano to my house. They gave up trying in about 10 minutes of arriving here, but kept the clock running for another 30 minutes. Eventually they abandoned the piano in my entry and left. They nearly dropped the piano when taking it out of the truck. They caught it just as I braced myself for the impact of it sliding down the ramp at high speeds towards the cement. They did wave the piano surcharge. But moving the piano from my mom's new place in Willoughby to my place in Maple Ridge cost 240$. All they did was drive it here and (barely) unload it. So we had to hire a professional piano mover for 250$. Who by the way, had it up here in less than 30 minutes. Had they stayed in their lane and suggested we get a piano mover, it would have only cost us another 75$. Instead it was over 550$ total. Oh. And my mom requested 3 guys. Two showed up. This was a good experience. The guys were friendly and punctual. We have a giant sectional that had to be lowered over a balcony, and they did this job without damaging anything. Pricing is reasonable. The moving company called a few times prior to the move to ensure everything was set up/our needs were taken into consideration. We also bought some packing supplies/boxes directly from them. I think this is probably about as good as moving gets, since it's generally a not so fun process. Definitely recommend! read more

Very rude. They came with a huge truck and parked in fire/ambulance/passenger pickup area. When asked to park on a street like all other moving trucks do they became very aggressive and rude. Very professional RIGHT. By the way, the whole roof of the truck shows the sign of a bridge being hit. Great company! read more

We moved while there was a massive snow storm today but they didn't make either house dirty and still got us all moved in with no damages or mess. My wife and I recently left Alberta, and we hired Two Small Men to help us move out of our one bedroom apartment. In our case this meant moving furniture and boxes from our apartment into a pod. Marco and Justin arrived on time; they were professional, kind, and efficient. They took one break (lunch), notifying us in advance before doing so, and told us when their break would end. They prepared the furniture for the move for us, carried the furniture down a tight stairwell, and packed the pod meticulously. We still can't figure out how Marco and Justin were able to fit all our belongings into that small pod; there's no way we would have been able to accomplish such a feat ourselves! read more

I would leave a -10 but can't. They arrived on time but with 1 driver who knew sort of what he was doing, but 2 helpers not a clue. We were moving a 3 bedroom duplex. They were very slow. They stripped the screws on my daughter's bed and then said we did. Took 3 of them to take my son's bed apart, and took lots of breaks. They then started telling that we had to choice the stuff we wanted to take because they were running out of room. Took them over 4 hours to get 55% of our stuff out. When we got to the new house, they scratched up our walls. They told me about 1 but looked after we left we found actual hole in the wall. The field a compliant when I was taking pictures for claim found huge hole in the ceiling. Emailing for Ali offered a settlement but I ask about why they didnt offer second trip, the proceeded to say that the driver told them we were hiring a uhaul. Between completely wrong quotes, disrespectful team members, taking almost 12 hours to move a 2 bedroom house (of which no big items were moved at the end of it), being charged nearly double the agreed upon price, having so many items broken, and topped off by a department that does not respond to any complaints or concerns after several attempts. Did nothing I asked, broke items, left items behind, nothing done properly, and walked away! charged be $1700 for 4 hrs to move 5 show suites from 1st floor to 4th, and they could not do it properly, left the broken items on the counter, did not report it and walked away.. I was quoted around 4 hundred dollars which included what I had listed on my quote as it turned out myself & daughter moved all the boxes except 6 packed at last minute. When the gentlemen came I said that there was space by the elevator to put items & then load the elevator as I was on the 4th floor with only 1 elevator but instead they loaded a couple of items & took the elevator down each time. I was emailing with them to determine a date that would work for moving 3 pieces of furniture to my place. In email we determined a date and time that would work and I thought everything was good. Half an hour before the end of the time range I was given I contacted the office to see when I would be expecting them. After waiting for awhile they determined that they had never actually booked it into the system even though I have emails stating otherwise. I was then told that the woman who I was emailing with would call me back in 30 minutes. It has now been two days and NO ONE from the company had decided to contact me. What a disaster. We booked ahead on what ended up being the hottest day in history here, thought the company may call and reschedule but they didn't so we figured if they were okay with it then we would be since I wasn't supposed to be standing outside with them the entire time. That was a mistake. The 2 guys showed up looking very rough, getting the items out of storage was a nightmare with them dropping couches etc. By the time they arrived at my new home one of them was dropping f-bombs every second work talking about how his boss should not have booked him for the job because of his health--an hour later he was bent over groaning and we almost had to call the ambulance for him because he was so sick. The other poor guy tried to do what he could but things were getting dropped again, mattresses we're getting dragged along the bottom of the filthy truck, my couch is covered in grease stains. Now I'M out there trying to help just to get my stuff out of the truck before my new neighbor comes back from work and needs to get into his garage. We called the boss when the first guy got sick and he kept telling us he was sending more guys, the boss comes by to 'check on them', gives them drinks but doesn't even get out of his Hummer. Two more guys finally show up for about an hour and got the big stuff inside, almost dropped my elliptical going up the stairs, marked the walls, got grease on the carpets, broke pieces off my elliptical. They lost the hardware for my bed frame. Then at the end had the audacity to try and make us pay for 2 guys for the entire day! I felt bad for the movers because their boss was at fault for everything, but I'm not paying for their incompetence. We ended up paying for just an hour less (even though they miscalculated the time and tried to over charge). But at that point I just wanted them gone. UPDATE: On May 30, 2017 I opened a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, at no point in time did Two Small Men acknowledge or respond to myself or the BBB in any way. Over email, I communicated with Barb Dupuis. She provided a written quote that said 3 hours (129 per hour, for a total of $387.00). I scheduled my move with Two Small Men for 9am on Friday May 26, 2017. On Friday May 26, 2017, the movers called at 8:40am to advise they were on their way to our home. They arrived 50 minutes later, 30 min after their expected start time. Two young men arrived (Jesse and Alex), one wearing a Two Small Men shirt, the other dressed in street clothing. They were in a Mighty Movers truck. We did a walkthrough, showed them how things were labelled & they had us go over the paperwork during this time they told us all tips must be paid in cash when the work is done. All our boxes were taped shut, labelled & the majority of them were at the front door or back door ready to be moved. I stayed at the old house while they loaded, they were slow, not methodical, did not remove their shoes or provide any matting to walk on. I found a piece of chewed gum stuck to the floor, and water spilt all over the hardwood. At one point, one of the movers asked for paper towel, I assumed to clean up the water-but I was wrong, he wanted to use the washroom. Around 12pm they were done loading, we left the house at the exact same time, however I arrived at the new home 25 minutes before them. It is an 8 min drive from house to house, so where did they go for 25 minutes? Upon arriving at the new house, there was a white van out front, a tall man, covered in tattoos & wearing a wife beater tank top (not a uniform) was dropped off. Alex & Jesse than told us "it is your lucky day-you get the third guy for free". I would like to know, was this man even an employee, or just a buddy helping out? His name is not on any of our documentation. Again, they wore their shoes inside the new house, with no matting or protection on the hardwood flooring. With the third man, unloading did go faster than the loading. They finished at approximately 2pm. When it was time to pay they told us the total would be $744.98, but our quote was for $387.00. My boyfriend questioned the charge & Alex advised "oh, the office ALWAYS under quotes, we keep telling them not to, but they just keep doing it." Not wanting to make a scene, we paid it & they left. We should have done a walk through with them before we paid. We looked around & realized we had an absolute disaster on our hands. For example, they put a brand new lawnmower, in a bright green box with a lawn mower on it and yellow label that said "BACKYARD", in our master bedroom on the second floor. We found the following, & unfortunately, the concerns are not limited to this list: -Upstairs bathroom box in the basement -Pieces of our Master Bedroom set in all 3 bedrooms -A backyard item & a master bedroom item, side by side in the living room -In the basement things were pilled higher than I am tall (I am 5 6") Please keep in mind, all of our items were clearly labelled with a Sharpie and/or yellow Post It Notes. As soon as I noticed what a chaotic mess we had(around 2:30pm), I made numerous calls to Two Small Men. At 4:16pm, Stephanie, a manager contacted me, I went over everything that had happened & she said she was going to call the crew because she wanted to hear from them, she claimed to be "shocked", & advised that was her "best crew" & that they "NEVER get complaints about them". We waited to hear back from her & at 4:47pm she called again. Stephanie said she was unable to really talk to the crew as they were on another job but they had told her they were rushing to help us out & that is why the third guy showed up. However, the movers told us that the third guy was being used for a job after ours & he just needed to be dropped of at our house so he helped out. Stephanie did offer to have other guys come over to sort things out. I declined this - if her "best crew" left such a mess, what would the other crew do? Not to mention, nearly 3 hours had now passed, my boyfriend & I had spent that time organizing things. We did not need/or want someone from Two Small Men back in our house. We did however want a refund. Stephanie said she understood & would call us back Monday with a resolution. On Monday, May 29, 2017 I contacted Two Small Men at 2:29pm as I had not heard from the company. Stephanie was extremely defensive, & said that since we declined having help come back, all she was willing to do was refund us one hour labour ($129.00). By the time she had made that offer 3 hours had passed, we had worked to sort things out, we declined the refund. Stephanie told me to make reviews & she would respond accordingly. read more

Got a couple of calls trying to reduce to one truck, said no because we didn't want a 12 hour move... what happened? You guessed it! One truck! All we got were ducked calls & unrealistic excuses. After a grueling 12 hour move we were given a "deal" more than we were quoted & had to get other movers to finish the job. The guys were amazing & worked super hard but lacked experience, leading to being unable to load everything. We worked with the sales team to make sure we had more room than needed up front. So since I have moved for work a lot I have had many experiences with different moving companies and still haven't found one I will use again. This company so far has been the worst. First of all they showed up late to my apartment then got in an argument with my landlord about the service elevator. I was moving from a two bedroom apartment and had moved a lot of the smaller stuff myself so all that was left was basically furniture. I was told straight out by them that if my Ikea bookshelves are damaged in any way they are not responsible (funny because they moved 3 other times before that and were totally fine). Long story short, it took twice as long as I was quoted much thanks to the many cigarette and coffee breaks the guys took on my time. There was a swearing match with my neighbors at my new place (way to get off on a good start). My brand new bed frame was completely scratched and damaged (not from Ikea... but they wouldn't confess to it). I heard them drop a few boxes on the ground multiple times. Needless to say, I know how to pack well and every box that they moved had broken items in it. When I called the company to complain, nothing was ever done about it and they said they were not responsible for my "Ikea furniture" which is funny since the only thing from Ikea was the bookshelves that were completely broken in the short time they were in the truck. I hired this company on September 28, 2013 and my experience was horrible. I moved from a one bedroom apartment on the south side to an even smaller condo downtown. I had everything packed and they complained about how heavy stuff was the entire time. When it came time to move my couch they said it wouldn't fit in the elevator and 'no moving company in edmonton would move my couch past 4 floors.' I live on the 8th floor. They told me the only way they would do it is 'if I took care of them.'. I felt extremely taken advantage of. Of course they wanted a huge tip in the end for doing their job - moving my stuff. I WOULD GIVE THEM LESS STARS IF I COULD!! First of all, they were 5 HOURS late. The window they gave was between 1 and 5pm and they showed up at 10pm. I was packed and ready to go at 1pm. So right off the hop they were already off to a bad start. They guys finnished the job in 2 hours (because I helped move) being tired of waiting around all day and night. They woke up the neighbors in my new place due to all the loud noise they were making packing up the truck ramp in the parking lot and hearing them complain through thier windows, the driver started swearing at them in retaliation. I was done so I paid (full price). I was promised a discount earlier in the day, but was never given one. Apparently they had to "clear it with the manager" who was asleep at this time (12 am) To top it off the guy driving decided to pee in the parking lot on the truck because he "couldn't hold it." I cant make this stuff up, it was literally this bad. I have never been so disgusted and frustrated by a companies unbelievable unprofessionalism, in my entire life. I have moved this furniture from Toronto to Montreal, from Montreal to Toronto, and from Toronto to Edmonton without damage. These folks moved my furniture 2 km"s and damaged much of the wooden furniture and an expensive couch. They reimbursed me for 2 items, a token sum, but since then have refused to return my calls. They, obviously, don't care about customer satisfaction. I am willing to discuss some settlement for the damaged furniture, but no one will respond. You might say, they did a "bang-up job," because they banged up and scraped so many items. If you want a good move, look elsewhere. That's my advice. read more

I would give no stars if possible. I've waited several months to write this review as I wanted to give the company time to respond to our concerns, and due to our belongings being put into storage I wanted to see exactly what was damaged or missing. I contracted them for a "full service" move from AB to SK. This would include packing services (over $2,000), provision of all packing materials, and transport of same to SK with offloading of some belongings to our rental unit and the remainder into storage until we got possession of our new home. Keelan came to our home, had a look at all we needed to move, and provided a quote in a timely manner. We booked several months in advance. On moving day, Keelan did not come. He sent another fellow, "CJ" and what can only be described as a "motley crew" of young men who all showed up late to begin packing. They showed up with a 24' truck to pack a 4 bedroom house into. My husband immediately informed them that truck was woefully undersized for the amount of furniture and belongings we would be transporting. He was assured that "they would make it fit". They began packing. In hopes of keeping this short I will now move into point form to itemize our damages and missing items. 1. All our daughter's clothing from her closet was packed into a contractor sized garbage bag and not boxes as other closets were. I don't know why this was the case. The bag of clothing disappeared. An entire wardrobe gone. I was then informed the insurance doesn't cover "disappearance" only damage and I could file a complaint with the RCMP but that is all they could offer. 2. A large rack of elk antlers disappeared. 3. Antique jewelry that was in my dresser (a great-grandmothers ring) disappeared. I should never have left jewelry in a dresser and should have packed it myself. 4. A hydraulic jack belonging to my husband also disappeared. All of these missing items have left us with no recourse except "file a complaint with the RCMP and they can do an investigation". This company had approximately 6 different young men coming and going "packing" throughout the day, they had no quality control for packing technique or accountability. Damaged items: this is extensive. I opted for basic insurance (not understanding that I would come to regret this, but that the claim process is basically useless offering payment of .60/lb which will do nothing to repair all the damage to our furniture). Also a caveat added in the small print: any furniture containing particle board or veneer does not qualify for coverage. Find me any modern piece of furniture that doesn't contain either of those things - but it's their escape clause for having to pay for the damage they cause. A brand new master bedroom set - both dressers gouged through the finish to the bare wood beneath. Edges chipped, hardware bent. Legs for the king size bed disappeared, no hardware to put the bed back together at the other end. Bookcase finish damaged where the straps were tightened across the front and inadequate padding. Dark finish now marred to bare wood beneath. New coffee table scratched through the top, edges chipped and finish worn through. All dining room chairs with deep scratches, damage to finish, tabletop scratched and edges chipped. Antique china packed into styrofoam edges without paper padding to surround. 5/6 cups shattered. Mattress protectors were paid for and not used for the King bed, mattress loaded into truck and storage with my sheets on it. Now stained and filthy. As we predicted the truck was not large enough, they then had to scramble for another truck to finish loading and we had to pay for two trucks, drivers and fuel and taxes! They then unloaded our belongings, punched a hole in the drywall of the rental, claimed they would pay for the repair and when an invoice was submitted (we paid out of pocket and were told we would be reimbursed) they ignored our emails and refused to pay. All our belongings were unloaded into storage with the same care drunken monkeys might exhibit. The TV padding was removed and our bicycles were left leaning against the screen! All padding and dust coverings with the exception of shrink wrap were removed and or belongings left stacked haphazardly. It was a nightmare trying to see what had been left where, but the damage was apparent. In short: I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy. Steer clear unless you want your furniture damaged and belongings to disappear, and be told that you can go to the RCMP. They take no responsibility for who they hire, they have no standard of accounting for the belongings going into and out of their trucks (no manifest or inventory system at all!) read more

I am not one to write a complaint on social media but this needs to be addressed. I wanted to share this to give anyone a heads up and to really research moving companies before hiring them. Sometimes cheaper isn't better!!! I hired movers for my move with TWO SMALL MEN WITH BIG HEARTS. First time hiring movers. You would think these guys are supposed to be experienced and know what they are doing!! I hired them so my furniture wouldn't get damaged and they would be careful with the walls. I was wrong!!!! My furniture was damaged, dresser was totally broken, my king size mattress has a 10 inch rip, bed frames scratched and chipped along with my coffee tables. My bed frame was thrown on top of each other and the pins were bent. My brand new couch material is all ripped underneath. They put holes in my freshly painted walls, in which I had to get the painters back in to fix these holes. My garage items were all thrown in one pile on top of each other. I don't even know if there will be damages to the lawn mower or my other powered tools. To top it off, one of the guys smelled like alcohol!!! I made several attempts to call them. Left messages and emailed them 4 times and no one has gotten back to me. Its been over a month as my move was on Feb 26 and no call or email back. Please do your research!! read more

My last move with them many years ago was a disaster. It was the missing items (theft) at the end of it all that was my biggest concern. Hopefully, they have improved the quality and integrity of their workers since then. read more

Please note my review is solely based on Edmonton location Two small men with big hearts In Edmonton jan 25 2019 This was an alberta works move.The customer has M.S and a few mental issues so alberta works authorized 9 hrs to pack and move my friend they came to apartment at 930.They said they where only told to pack the kitchen only they where rushing they forgot pictures on wall lots of little things. They decided to take off without letting us know and we still had a few things at the apartments as we mentioned a new place I asked him why he took off one of the guy's "THE BOSS" said there truck was full but at very end of move one of the workers said there was still room so they finished unloading truck and ask to get signed off at 6.5 hrs they did not want to go get the rest of the stuff but eventually BN they did one of the guys had a very foul mouth lots of swearing through the whole move another guy mentioned in the morning that he didn't have his methadone yet and the other guy was bumming cigarettes and didn't clean up any mess they made in hallways and as I was sorting out all my furniture I've noticed two tables are broken legs are broken off one legs are missing off the other so I would not recommend using this company just because someone is on social assistance and have mental issues dose not give anyone they right to treat others badly or break there things .. read more
