I needed to move a piano from my husband's parents home to our new house, and Precision Piano moving was the company I decided on. Overall the move went ok, and the piano arrived at our new home undamaged, but the whole day could have been a lot smoother. When I emailed for a quote, I got a response right away, and in the email was given a choice of days that the crew would be available for pickup at my in-laws. This is mostly the reason I selected this company, as I liked knowing right away that there was availability on an upcoming weekend, although our move was flexible and not urgent so we could have done any weekend in the foreseeable future. My in-laws had an afternoon appointment so I booked a 10 am pick up time at their house; Precision gave a window of 10 am - noon and I thought this was fine. The night before I was contacted to say that they may be running late on Saturday and pick up could be after the noon window, but before 1 pm. I appreciated the heads up, but was wondering how they knew a day ahead of time they would be running late, unless they scheduled someone else before me.
The day of the move when my in-laws had not gotten the promised 30 minute heads up phone call or seen any trace of the movers by 1 pm, I called them to find out where the truck was. The woman I spoke to said that their crew had been out late the night before and they were busy with month-end moves, implying that I should cut them some slack, which honestly didn't fly well with me. A simple apology instead of excuses would have been appreciated, and more appropriate. They showed up for pick up at 1:30 pm at my in-laws; any later and we would have had to cancel the move altogether, or drive up to St. Albert from the south side to wait for the truck. The driver of the truck called my cell phone to give me a 20 minute warning around 2:15 pm, causing me a bit of a panic getting out of the shower, as I was told it wouldn't be delivered until 4 pm. Surprise, they showed up at 4 pm. They were in and out so quickly it was a little bewildering, but hey, we got the piano, and the price was very good ($175).
Am I being a little bit fussy? Probably. However, with all the other deliveries and installs I have worked with during my recent move, this was by far the most irritating, and they could improve their scheduling or widen their windows to be more realistic. If I ever move a piano again, I'll clear my schedule on the whole day to reduce unnecessary stress, and would probably try one of the other companies in town. read more
