I recently got my prescription updated and loved my old frames and was given the option of putting the new lenses into my frames. My insurance only covered their supplier. Well, that supplier broke my frames and said that it was not their responsibility. Bernie jumped in, told me that he would get the lenses from his supplier and put them into my back up frames while I waited because I would be without sight without glasses! Bernie is a real professional and his commitment to quality and customer satisfaction is top notch. I walked out of the shop with new lenses, straight and tight frames and clear sight! I went into the shop to see if I could get my glasses fitted as they were slipping off my face. I was upfront and honest and told them I bought them online and was willing to pay to have them fitted. They refused to fit them saying, "We don't want to encourage buying online. I'm sure someone else will do it." I can see not wanting to fit them for free but if a customer is willing to pay to have them fitted because they bought them elsewhere I think that is a little bizarre that they won't fit glasses for a price. I think it is a bad business plan, as online retail isn't going away. Obviously there is still a place for these types of shops (otherwise I would not have gone in). Instead of fighting against online retail they should charge to fit glasses for people who choose to go this route and make online business work for them. Left feeling disappointed. read more

Great service for both exams and contacts/glasses! I got an eye exam as well as contacts and glasses from Two Opticians. I made an appointment with Dr. Rae Huang for an exam and she was ready for me right on time. She was efficient and knowledgeable. She completed a thorough eye exam in about 15 min then helped me pick out glasses and contacts and then sent me over to Jim to put in the order. He was very helpful in informing me of my options based on my prescription and the frames i wanted. The contacts and glasses came in less than a week later and were exactly what i wanted. Jim adjusted my glasses to fit perfectly and the prescription that Rae determined is just right. I will definitely be back for all my eye exams, glasses and contacts! read more

They accept most insurance and do a good job of explaining what is covered, etc. The optometrists do a good job of making glasses and they have a great selection of lenses. Pros: easy to get an appointment ASAP, and Dr. Huang is a fantastic optician. She is extremely knowledgable, friendly, caring, and professional Cons: lack of designer frames (or really anything mid to high range), not the friendliest salesperson. He was perfectly friendly to me, but fought on the phone with my insurance company for over 40 minutes and was not the most professional. In the end, I got a great eye exam from Dr. Huang, but did not purchase frames or lenses due to the time it took to figure out my insurance and limited selection. They should really bring in some more modern frames considering Southie is becoming completely dominated by 20-30 year olds. read more

Let me begin by saying that I love supporting local businesses and I didn't hesitate to try Two Opticians when I needed new glasses. My two star rating is more in regards to the experience I had with Jim and his overall lack of professionalism I felt. Initially Jim seemed a pleasant and knowledgable person. During small talk as I was shopping for frames, he told me in detail how he hated being trapped in his job, that he didn't make enough to retire, and just seemed very unhappy. When I took out my credit card to make a deposit (on a $600 order total) he immediately commented "there goes some of my earnings" to suggest that he would prefer a cash deposit. Fast forward a month later when I came back to the store to readjust my frames because they were pinching, he quickly became judgmental when I raised concerns about the fit of my frames. First he adjusted them the way he thought would be best, but I insisted that it needed more adjustment. When he finally agreed he mumbled "did her face change in size?" as he walked away. He also kept informing me that he teaches proper eyeglass wear at a school and know everything there is to know about the topic. He came off as arrogant and my experience has deterred me from returning as a customer. Overall my frames were good and completed in a timely fashion but I do not recommend this place due to Jim's lack of professionalism and courtesy. read more

I ended up at Two Opticians after originally going to a national chain for my first pair of glasses. I wanted to support a local business, and this one has great reviews. Before booking an appointment, though, I called two other local opticians. One didn't pick up (despite being open), the second had a very unpleasant receptionist, so I decided against it. When I reached Two Opticians, the man I spoke with was so friendly, genuine, accommodating, and helpful. And that's why I came here. First impressions and customer service make a HUGE impact--especially in healthcare. The solid customer service continued throughout my experience, from eye test to assistance selecting frames, to figuring out lens options and getting fitted. Bernie knows everything about eyeglasses and lenses and he was straight-up with me about what he thought I needed and didn't need. He could have tried to upsell me on lenses and so forth, but he actually saved me money by telling me a pricier option wouldn't add much value given my needs. So, honest and knowlegable--and patient...I had a lot of questions about lenses. Best of all, though, is I got EXACTLY what I was looking for. I need progressive lenses, but I find them hard to wear. He was able to get me progressive lenses that are more like a bifocals (progressing from one prescription at bottom for reading to another at top of lens for distance). The funny thing is...I asked about this possibility at 2 different national chains and both said it was not possible. My advice is to go to Two Opticians. Local, personalized, knowledgeable service at its best! Prices are good too, and they will help you maximize your insurance benefits. The only negative, really, is they don't have a huge selection of frames. However, they told me I can bring in a frame I get elsewhere and they'll do the lenses for them, which I definitely plan to do. read more

I started buying my glasses at a small shop like this one, transitioned to buying from my doctor's office, then to large optical shops like LensCrafters. Until finding Two Opticians, I forgot how much personalized service and skill could make a difference in purchasing glasses. I cannot speak to the selection for others, but if you are a woman with a small face then this is a great place to shop. Not sure there have ever been so many frames that fit my face, even in the large stores. Pricing is also another reason to shop here. i found them to be far less expensive than most of the big name shops. Sure, you can find cheaper glasses out there, but they are in no way over-priced. The quality has been excellent. I see so well and the glasses fit so perfectly that I occasionally forget I have them on! I love these guys! I walked in off the street, on a busy Saturday, with no appointment, and a broken pair of specialty eye glasses (see: Superfocus.com) that I did not purchase from Two Opticians. The first optician spent 30 minutes fixing the problem, and chatting about the glasses. I asked for a reference for an eye exam because my day-to-day second pair of glasses (frame less with progressive lenses, also not purchased here) were bothering me. The second optician came over and gave me a card for their favorite optometrist. Then he asked to see my day-to-day glasses that were bothering me. It turns out that the were sitting cock-eyed on my face and not centered. A minute later he was re-adjusting my second pair of glasses! How crazy is this: a busy Saturday, two opticians, two glasses, both fabulously fixed, less than 30 minutes, a reference for an optometrist, and the charge...they did it for free (I gave them something for all of their help)? Wow. I came home, told my spouse, and am now telling you. This is exactly what I've been looking for and unable to previously find. I am recommending them to everyone. read more

Quick, friendly, and remembered me from the year prior (when I walked in needing a new contact prescription when I suddenly realized I was out of contacts.) I went in a month ago when I needed to renew my prescriptions, and while I was waiting one of the glasses guys tuned up my glasses in about 2 minutes (without me even asking) which has completely changed the way I see with them. I didn't even buy my glasses there! They charged me $310 for eye exam only, not including the contact lens order fee. Had my eye exam on August 29th, didn't receive no contacts till September 15th. Also the service I received is absurdly uncoordinated and unsatisfactory. They charged $80 for contact lens fitting fee at the store, then the insurance claim told me I owe the store another $230. Although I walked in there with a pair of glasses I'm currently wearing, they have to let you redo the whole eye exam. So right now the store charges me $310 for contacts lens Prescription ONLY, not including any contact lens ordering fee, and I didn't receive my new lens order for more than two weeks. Hope they can rest peacefully on this kind of money The full story goes like this: first day is a Thursday, did a $310 examination, dr. Lesoltis says my right eyes rotation is off, she can't decide which prescription works best for me, so she gave me some trials. I tried the trials over the weekend, told her they are still blurry. Now that's really absurd, if you did a $310 eye exam, and still can't come up with a relatively clear lens prescription, I don't really know if that meets minimal standards of care. Since they don't work over the weekend, I waited till Monday to pick up another set of trials. Over the weekend Lesoltis is kind enough to reply my message and came up with a new prescription for me to try out, and said she doesn't work in this store on Monday so she's asking her colleague to help me with the trial. I went in the store in late morning, the front desk Bernie is like: I don't know anything about trials. I asked him where's the colleague dr Lesoltis was talking about, he said the colleague doesn't work here on mondays. So I asked, where can I find Lesoltis then, he told me to check out Vision care 2000. Basically I drove to the store, wasted 1 hour of my time for nothing. After negotiating with Lesoltis, I managed to obtain another set of trial lenses from vision care 2000. Tried it Tuesday, still relatively blurry, but at this point, I just wants my contacts replenished, blurry as it can be it's still functional, so I asked her to send me to finalize the prescription. And she emailed me the lens prescription, and told me they're using a website called Lens ferries for me to order contacts online. Sounds convenient, so I waited for that email for me to click the link into lens ferries. This email is from someone named Dr Rae Huang from some newton highland optics store. I opened the link, it automatically sets the order amount to 1 year supply, I try to change it to six months but couldn't find the button, so I went with one year, trying to confirm the order. Then I realize the order doesn't come in all at once, they set it in a way that only 2 boxes (daily ones one box has 90 lens) will be shipped every three months. The first two boxes will be shipped in September, second box will be shipped out in March, then June, then the following September. So I texted Lesoltis, why's there a six months gap for my first two shipments, can they double check math, two boxes supply only lasts three months ok? And knowing them, Lesoltis is like oh I'll talk to my colleague about it to fix it. The front desk doesn't know nothing, the optician can't do nothing, everything has to be done by this colleague. I can't stand waiting for another day, so I called vision care 2000 directly to place the order through the phone instead. And another week went by, still no lenses, called front desk again, told me the merchandiser is shipping it out on September 10th. They said the delay is because of my high power that there's shortage of supply. But before my call on September 9th, I got a second email from Dr. Huang to order through lens ferries. If I recall it right, the last ordering link was a week ago and the math is wrong. I don't know why does it take them a week to fix the error, or she's just resending the email cause I didn't place the order through that website. Although I already placed it over the phone. Basically I went to one store, saw one optician, cost me $310 + another couple hundreds for the daily lenses, more than two weeks passed my lens still didn't arrive, and this optician apparently works at at least two different locations, and the contact ordering link is somehow from a store in Newton from this Dr. Huang, who can't even get the math right, and won't let me choose whether I want one year or six months supply, nor do they let me choose if I want all lenses mailed to me at once or shipped at two months intervals which mind you doesn't that increase the mailing fee which I'll be paying? Overall the doctors and front desk here are slow and fishy, rips you off while being slow to respond to request, terrible coordination between staff and offices, and the final prescription I settled with is still pretty blurry. And I don't mind paying that cost for a good service, this is nowhere near good, not even acceptable read more

They were pretty bad, but the frames themselves were in great shape and I really didn't want to shell out $300 for new ones, so I figured I would try to get them refitted. I found Two Opticians online and gave them a call. Bernie was awesome, told me to come by whenever, and then fixed the bend in my frames. But then, he said that whoever originally gave me my glasses hadn't adjusted them properly. He fixed that, too, and they feel way better. I don't think I realized they weren't fitted properly until they actually were! Didn't charge me a dime. This is where I met Bernie (one of the owners) he helped me find exactly what I was looking for. i did not get my eyes actually checked here, i got my glasses adjusted, but their courtesy and helpfulness was enough to earn them 5 stars. all i needed was my reading glasses tightened so they wouldnt fall off my face. not only did they do the adjustment for free (i was not already a patient nor did i buy my glasses there), but one of the guys sat down with me for a solid 20 minutes after i asked him if he could make me a second pair. he actually talked me out of getting a second pair solely for MY benefit and eye health, when i was ready to pay him to make me a new pair. he explained what was up with my eyes based on the glasses i currently had and suggested i try a few things out before i put money into something i may not actually need (long back story of having reading glasses during school vs. when not in school). he took time (aka money) out of his day to explain something to me that i didn't know (i learned a lot) to save me money, which in turn, cost him money. all for free and because he cared enough about my eyes to help out. i really appreciated his time, suggestions, knowledge, and honesty. read more

They decided to open their own place when Gopen closed and bring with them years of experience. Both of these individuals are head and shoulders above those chain eye wear stores that you will see in the shopping malls. Bernie & Jim not only provide expert advice and keen insight in helping you with the selection of your frames and lenses, they educate you with regard to the numerous available options. I believe the key to success in any business is customer service and that's where both of these men really deliver. I can honestly say, that whenever I have purchased a pair of glasses from them, I have left confident that I had made an informed decision due in no small part to their knowledgeable service. And you know how your eyeglasses tend to require occasional adjustment over time due to constant use; Two Opticians will adjust them at no charge. When I arrived there was no electricity due to pre-planned power shut down for utility work. They informed me they did not have the middle digits of my phone # and were unable to notify me. I left with plan for them to call me when power returned. Called back 3hrs later and told, "Our power came back on 2 hrs ago. Had me come right down then I waited another 20 min. Optometrist informed me my prescription changed and gave me the lens to try, I couldn't see anything. She replied, " you must not be ready for that strength. Try your old rx." I thought there was more of a science to determining correct prescriptions? Doesn't have any of computerized equipment for testing that most optometrists use now. Returned to order lenses after trying new brand. Experience with one of the owners was even worse. There was miscommunication and he was easily flustered. Needless to say it ended with him calling me a nut and throwing my prescription at me. Overall a poor experience from start to finish. I wanted to support a local business but this is one business I cannot recommend. read more
