We went around 5/6 pm on a Friday, which was early for dinner and it was obviously not that crowded. We were greeted quickly at the counter where you place your order and the lady who helped us was very nice. I loved the decor and vibe in the restaurant. I got the Boudin Balls and the Chuck Norris Dawg and my bf got the Italian dawg. The portion sizes were huge and I ended up having leftovers. I thought that everything was really good and I am in general not a hot dog person. My bf enjoyed his meal too and we would both go back again.

"The Schnitzel" has been my close-to-campus late night hot dog fix since I can remember, and it's still around somehow while nearby fast food chains have come and gone. Should you go out of your way to get a dog here? Nah, but it's nostalgic. I mean, look at their building - it hasn't changed since the 1980's! AND PEOPLE STILL GO HERE, making that drive-thru line long! They're using advanced, modern-day AI computers to take your order in the drive thru! They selling out of merchandise! They sell cans of their own chili!! So don't come here with high expectations. It's chili dogs, french fries, and a taste of Baton Rouge nostalgia that'll let you share stories with people double your age who remember getting $1 hot dogs after staying out late at The Bayou, or seeing a band at The Spanish Moon.

It was hot and juicy and flavorful. I want all too impressed with the toppings on the trash can dog (fries, cheese). The jalapeño poppers were delicious as well. Also some of the best I've tasted. Crispy freshly fried outside. Grease didn't taste old. Tiny pieces of jalapeño with cheese inside that's spicy but not overbearingly so. I tried their fish and chips because they were battered and I was expecting s Captain D's/Long John Silver taste and I got bland and chalky. The fries were greasy and didn't taste the best. My daughter's hamburger patty was very pale and she status it tasted weird after just one bite. It's very small. Window service or drive thru only. We'll be back though. The hot dog and poppers are worth it.

Unless you know where Dearman's is located, it can be difficult to find for the first time because it's subtly located in a strip mall establishment. Once you walk in though, you'll be taken back in time to the white, black and red-themed diner atmosphere and open kitchen. Plenty of seating and parking available.

They staved off an eviction nearly a decade ago and have somehow managed to stick around for a total of nearly 7 decades. Dearman's is the last legit diner in the city. The interior is a trip back in time. The spacious dining room is complete with retro furniture, checkered floors, and old school artwork that feels like something out of the 1950s. The decor screams pure Americana and is one of the biggest draws for the many patrons that come through daily. My favorite part is their juicy burgers. Pair it with their crispy fries and their old school milkshakes, and one has a complete meal. The burgers are hearty, and the portions are substantial. They also have salads, other sandwiches (tuna is my go-to), and various options for loaded fries. The other awesome part are the prices. Minus the double cheeseburger, there are no items that exceed $10 on the entire menu. The staff is young and always enthusiastic, and they play a big part in making this place such a destination. It is group / kid-friendly, and an ideal lunch spot. Orders can be placed online, but I recommend eating in for the full experience.

We always eat inside, unless we are just getting a shake, then we use the drive thru. The service inside is always great, it's always clean and the food is typically brought you in a very timely manner for being cooked to order. The burgers are always juicy and contain a really good sear. The taste of beef and really good rendered beef fat is the flavor you get first. Which in my opinion, I want the great taste of seared beef and the juices to carry the burger. Not a sauce, not a bun, the beef. Shake Shack uses Martin's potato buns, which is the best bun for burgers. Other buns may work however, Martin's potato buns the best. This is the type of burger that doesn't even need condiments, however their shack sauce is good but very similar to other burger sauces. Their Chicken Shack has also been very good when I ordered it a few times. Chicken is hot and crispy. The pickles are good but the herb aioli is a must. Get extra on the side, it's really good with the sandwich and fries. I tried the limited time BBQ rib sandwich, it was also very good. However, not as good as the burger or chicken sandwich. It's a shame but also not horrible the best burger in Baton Rouge comes from a chain. It's disappointing because just like pizza, Baton Rouge does not have any great options. Shake Shack being the best available in Baton Rouge isn't a bad thing though because it's a really good to great burger and two, because of all the chain places it's arguably the best. You could argue Five Guys or In N Out, but I have had all three and Shake Shack is the best in my opinion as far as chains go.

The drink options are also pretty slim but I go for the food, so that didn't bother me. The lady at the window taking our order was extremely friendly. She answered our newbie questions. I asked about the size of the quesadillas, which come in "gringa" and "minigringa" size. The menu isn't terribly descriptive but I was comfortable asking about items. The gringa quesadilla was served open faced and it had cheese, pork, onions and cilantro. My daughter and I flipped it over to make a traditional (is that a thing?) quesadilla, but not before squeezing some lime on the contents. The tacos were incredibly fresh and full of flavor. We squeezed lime over these, also. They were a smidge on the dry side but were served with green and red salsa that definitely helped to moisten them. A word of caution: the green salsa is really spicy! I thought the red salsa would have been spicier but I was wrong. Both had a great taste. My daughter and I both decided that the tacos were good and the quesadilla was even better. To repeat, the food was delicious and fresh, and that along with the service and value ($3 tacos are a good price these days), we will be repeat customers.
