Come ride here if you want to be VERBALLY ABUSED by CLARA !…read more Our family of 4 tried to go on a ride with her, she was incredibly rude over the phone, but scheduled us for 2:30. There was a hail storm, which slightly delayed our arrival. We called ahead and explained the situation, asked if she wanted us there tomorrow instead. She insisted it was okay for us to come anyway. Upon our arrival, she continued to be SO rude to us. She didn't even ask our names, started bossing us around, we had a new rider with us, which she didn't give direction too. INCREDIBLY UNSAFE. We hardly get up the hill when she singles out our patriarch, yelling at him for following too close when we were going UPHILL. She then, starts cussing out our entire group, calling us names and goes to UNCINCH his saddle while he's still on it!!! She almost was getting physical with him, screaming the whole time to get off. He was trying to explain that it is very unsafe to try to dismount a horse without a saddle safely attached. Clara made every single one of us dismount and walk all the way back to the stables. I have never encountered such an UNPROFESSIONAL HAG. She is NOT A SAFE GUIDE considering you can barely understand a word she says, on top of giving zero instruction, while almost tearing a member of our group off the saddle. Our group was nothing but respectful, her behavior suggests some sort of drug use or mental instability. We hope she gets the help she desperately needs. RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK !

My wife bought a groupon for this company for our anniversary…read more My wife scheduled a ride for Her, I and our 2 kiddos for June 9th, 2019. We drove an hour and a half to get to the place and we of course showed up an hour early, met with Mike one of the wranglers and he invited us to take a stroll while we waited for our ride, we did all the paperwork and got the kids helmets picked out, went for a beautiful walk and returned for our ride. Sadly Mike almost in tears says we were not on his schedule, said it happens quite often and hes left as the face to be the bad guy, we tried calling the office line but no answer, we were turned away to drive an hour and a half back home, great anniversary right? So not a single call from anyone in the office to appologize for the error, we contacted Groupon and got a full refund but still, not even an apology from the company for basically ruining our planned anniversary! Mike was great and it wasnt his fault clearly and the fact he got emotional made it all the easier to walk away friendly even tho my wife was really upset and my kids disheartened. I sure hope this company has more people like Mike and realizes they have very poor customer service to at least reach out to a customer and apologize for the inconvenience but I guess they just dont care. I wont ever schedule with this company again, and surely wont ever recommend them to anyone because of this situation. I'd recommend people to just go a few miles to Estes park and visit with Sombrero rather than deal with this irresponsible company. Thanks again Mike for your empathy and I hope you have nothing but great rides and the very best in life, you clearly deserve a great life.

My daughter is an experienced rider and she enjoyed it. I was simply along for the ride. We had to change our day and time due to an injury, but were so accommodating and changed everything for us. No fuss about the change. You don't see service like that anymore. The trail is along a path and you get as far as your time allows. We didn't get too far because we had some slow riders. I would highly recommend the for beginners. If you have a larger group you'll have better luck at setting the pace and get farther along the path. It's not the guides fault if folks are slow. Keep that in mind when going. Be on time as this activity starts at the parking lot of the head of a trail. We enjoys the horses and the guides.

It was my boyfriends first time on a horse, and the trail was uphill and through lots of trees. The horses are calm and easy to work with and he loved it! Insane views! I called three times and also sent an email, but got no response. Our reservation was for October 17th at 11:00 a.m. however it was 11:40 before I sat on a horse. Apparently there were quite a few Mix-Ups where the guides did not know they were 2-hour reservations, one hour reservations and a private tour all waiting to go out at the same time. The one guide who said his name was Nate introduced himself but kept walking back to the office without any explanation for the delay. All he would have had to say was "gosh folks sorry for the delay will be with you in a moment" or something equally as vague to acknowledge our presence and the time ticking away. When we finally did get on horses that seemed to be randomly chosen, the young man leading our group never spoke a word. He never small talked, he never introduced himself he never offered to take photos, or ask if we had any horse experience. The only thing I heard him say was to tell one guest to "kick her harder" after one of the horses was stopped on the trail. The ride itself was okay, but only okay as we seemed to just do zigzags through the woods behind the barn. I really wanted it to get better as my friend and I were very excited about being on horses in the mountains. The very end was when the young man held my horse while I dismounted and asked me if it was too dusty being at the end of the trail, when I told him it was okay his reply was "I hate it, I hate all of it" then he led my horse away and that was the end. We only ended up being on the horses about an hour and 20 minutes even though we had paid for a 2-hour ride, but by then then we were so frustrated, as it seemed so many guests were, we just went to the car and left. Overall we felt jipped out of our money but also out of our precious vacation time. The two young men who were guides could benefit from some customer service training. we were never welcomed, thanked, or really even spoken to. I wish management had called us back after leaving three messages. Maybe that's typical behavior at the very end of the season, however their website says they're open year round. I cannot recommend Elkhorn Stables based on my experience with them.
