This review is specifically for our experience at The Tavern. We came in with a large group the Saturday of Labor Day weekend while we were camping nearby at Bellaire Lake Campground. Part of our party (two adults and four kids) went ahead of us as we had dogs and needed a place where the dogs could be with us. Luckily, The Tavern was accommodating to that and we could sit with them on the patio. Since they got there ahead of us, their experience seemed to go smoothly. The rest of us (four adults, two teens, and a five year old) got our orders in and were warned that the kitchen was backed up and it would be a while for our food. And it was a while, about an hour or so. Aside from the youngest who was desperately hungry for her pizza, we managed fine. The drinks were delicious enough to tide us over: I got their take on an old fashioned, and my friend got a mule after someone in line recommended it to me. She said it was the best mule she has had at a bar in ages. The food was good and very decently priced. I got the caesar salad and a personal pizza and enjoyed both. It was good to not pay exorbitant prices in an area where options for restaurants are limited. It was a perfect day to chill out on the patio, and we also got the pleasure of the feral kittens who came to visit. After the long wait for food, we were anxious to get back to our campsite and settle in for the evening. Everything has to be ordered at the bar, and tabs need to be closed out there as well. This is where the waiting game continued, and where it became very clear they were not prepared for the holiday weekend rush. The woman who had taken our orders at the bar was in the back managing things in the kitchen, and the man at the bar was also busy being a sound tech for the musician that came in. There was another guy standing behind the bar doing absolutely nothing. It seemed he worked there, but only at the direction at the other bartender-sound tech. Which wouldn't have been a big deal if the line weren't taking up the bulk of the space in the small indoor dining area. It took at least half an hour if not longer to be in that line just to close our tab. When we finally departed, between choosing food, placing orders, waiting for food, and then waiting to close tabs, we had been there almost two and a half hours. It is very apparent that this is a well-loved local joint based on the interactions I had, the custom Yeti pints they had for customers, and regulars going behind the bar to pour their own pints. The atmosphere was great, and I love that. As I mentioned, restaurant options are limited, so beggars can't be choosers for our one night where we chose to dine out rather than cook at camp. But knowing how busy holiday weekends are, I was left disappointed but how things were being managed. I'd check this place out again on a calmer night or later in the evening for drinks, but definitely skipping the rush hours. read more

We enjoyed our one night in the cabin. It was great to have an indoor fireplace. It would have been nice to have been supplied a bundle of wood, but we had extra so we made it happen. The beds were super comfortable and clean linens. The tavern was closed so we did not get to eat there which was disappointing. The house had very slanted floors it almost get like it was falling over. Kind of weird. The man who checked us in did not seem to know much about the area. We were on side by sides and wanted some help finding trails and he didn't know, since the restaurant was closed we also wanted help with a restaurant and could not provide. These are all extras that would have made it a great stay. All in all we enjoyed it and will come back. read more

We got here a little earlier than the check-in time of 4pm, Rich answered the doorbell and said he'd be right down. He pulls up on his quad, is very personable and friendly. Introduces himself and we go into the office to check in. Get everything squared away and I head off to our cabin. Upon opening the door, I realize I've made a great choice! It's amazing. The cabin is small enough to be cozy yet big enough that the 4 of us won't be cramped. Very comfortable futon couch that folds down into a bed for the girls, a great little fireplace. DirecTv and wifi in each cabin. Also, there is a full kitchen with cooking and eating utensils supplied by the owner! A full size fridge is also in the cabin, just making for a great relaxing time while here. Out the front door, a view of one of the lakes makes for a great backdrop with a bbq grill and picnic table for enjoying the outside. The bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed in it, granted my home bed is more comfortable, but I paid a lot of money for it. Lol, 4 windows that open allowing for fresh air and make the bedroom cool The bathroom is small, but it's big enough. Has a bathtub w/shower in it. Very nice. The overall decor of the cabin is great! Very woodsy! We all love it! Next to the office is a tavern. Rich and his wife (I'm sorry I forgot your name ma'am) run the whole show here. He tends to the office, makes drinks and takes orders in the tavern. She brings extra sheets and blankets to the guests and makes the food in the tavern. It's just a well run establishment here, nestled in the Colorado mountains! And the residents of the village are very friendly. Everyone waved at me driving down to the little market and chatted with me while at the market. About the market, it's great to have access to things should you forget something when you come up, but be forewarned, this is a tiny village, and it's not cheap in there! So don't get angry at the clerk when you're paying quite a bit extra for what you forgot. Just smile and thank them for having what you needed. Don't be that jerk! Anyways, we are loving it up here and even though we've still got 2 days here, we already can't wait to come back!! read more

I like this place it is nice. It's quaint and overlooking Ramona Lake. The gentleman who took care of us was nice as can be and made sure we were okay -- we sat outside, in the rain, under their umbrellaed-bench. As I walked through the inside some guy's Red Feather Nachos changed my mind, I had planned on only getting a beer and a cheese sandwich but I needed to try those nachos (it was a good choice). I thought their one menu was it but turns out they have a desert menu I didn't know about and the Hot Apple Pie ala mode was a great way to complete my meal. Yum. We have been coming here for years however we are just thrilled with what the new owners, Rich & Kerrie, have done here. The cabins are cozy and wonderful and life has been brought back to these beautiful little homes away from home. It is fantastic that they have The Tavern up and running. Food was delicious and it was so nice to walk across the parking lot to enjoy good food and drinks. We've always loved it here, but now, love it even more. We stayed in the Moose Hill cabin back in May and it was seriously one of the most relaxing, wonderful trips we've taken in a long time-- this cabin is SUPER spacious (two separate bedrooms, a full kitchen and dining room combo, a front room, and a sun porch), a really cozy fireplace, and of course, wifi and TV. Have a dog? You can bring your pup along with you... Feel like hiking? There's trails all around... Feel like staying in? There's a little grocery store in town (town is about a block long? ADORABLE) to pick up goodies so you can cook and hang out. Like to fish? There's a lake about a hop, skip, and waddle from the cabin... Also, if you've never had the pleasure of seeing fish LEAP out of water, just look out the sun porch-- you'll see them. There's also bald eagles but we didn't spot any... The owners are really, really wonderful-- they're there with a smile and suggestions and are building out a space in the lodge for drinks and light fare... if we didn't move away from CO, we'd be headed back for regular trips. read more

We stayed in cabin #5, 1bedroom. It was small but comfortable, very rustic. The tavern was temporarily closed, but we found a couple of restaurants nearby. Also had stove, microwave, toaster, refrigerator....full kitchen in the cabin. It was clean, and the check-in, check-out process was seamless. We were surprised to have Dish-network TV. Highly recommend if you want the rustic experience. read more

Clean, cozy, and courteous. Really, nothing to complain about. My husband and I, with our dog, stayed at the Bear's Den for a couple nights. The fire place and the full kitchen were a nice treat. We were able to go cross country skiing during the day at Beaver Meadows ranch resort just a short 15-20 minute drive away. Barb and Rob were great! read more

DON'T GO! One star because I can't do zero. The owners were so nice while setting up our wedding guest housing. They over charged us and when we talked to them they gave us a partial refund of the overcharge. While I was showing the owner the evidence of the overcharge he went off on me with the rudest language and attitude, wow it was amazing! We then said we would like to retrieve or baskets of food that we placed in the rooms for our guests they said that they already took them out and gave them to the poor. The cabins were dirty and the service was terrible. The sheets were not washed and the place smelled of various drugs. We found a burnt cigarette in the sofa.
