I really hate that I've been pushed to the point of having to write this negative review.
But back in December I set up an appointment with Nando, the owner at Twisted Tattoo. Both the consultation and the tattoo were done in the same day. I did have a pretty good idea of what I wanted but needed some additional advice on some of the details in the tattoo, which Nando did provide. He had some good suggestions and was pretty helpful in that regard. And technically and artistically, the tattoo turned out very nice. HOWEVER...there are a lot of good tattoo artists out there, so what can separate one tattoo parlor from the next, is good customer service, communication and professionalism...all of which, Nando needs to improve upon.
The first red flag was when we were partway through the tattoo and Nando received a phone call, which was fine, but he took the call in a room only about 6 feet from his station, so I could hear every word on his end of the call. It was a very tense phone call with his ex/mother of his son, which lasted a good 10 minutes. I didn't really mind the break, but he should have gone to a place where I was out of ear shot, because with every tense word, I was concerned about him coming back to finish my tattoo while being upset. When he did come back, he did apologize but then continued to go on about all his baby mama drama. I didn't really care that much, but it's not the most professional behavior to exhibit with a brand-new client.
So after he finished, he applied a clear wrap over the tattoo and told me to leave it on for 4 to 5 days. After that he told me to keep it clean and apply lotion, and that was about it. He never gave me any written aftercare instructions, but I didn't think much of it. We took photos and I promoted him on Facebook. But the next morning, there was so much puss oozing and swelling, that I began to worry that something was wrong. I started looking up information online, as well as, on the website of Twisted Tattoo. Everything I was reading (including on their website) said to be weary of anything like saran wrap and that any covering should only stay on for up to 2-3 hours after the tattoo is finished. This was obviously different than the instructions he had given me, as well as the bandage/covering. The shop wasn't open in the morning so I messaged Nando on Facebook, asking for clarification. Some of my friends at work, who also have tattoos, warned me that the tattoo shouldn't stay covered more than a few hours. I finally was able to get a hold of someone at the shop that afternoon (not Nando), and they explained to me that it was Tagaderm, how and why it was used, and what to expect in the coming days. I felt much better once I was given all this information...information Nando should've provided me with the night before to prevent all the unnecessary anxiety I experienced the next day. I'm assuming Nando was informed that I called because I never received a response to my FB message I sent him.
Fast forward to six weeks later. My tattoo seems to have healed up well and looks good. There's only one or two spots in the tattoo that I thought might possibly need a touch up. I was told by the guy who gave me all the follow up information that if I had any fading issues and needed a touch up, to just let them know. So I sent Nando another FB message because I know he makes his own hours and isn't typically at the shop unless he has an appointment. I told him I thought the tattoo healed up well and looked great but that there's possibly one or two spots that might need some touching up, and that I just wanted him to take a look at it and see what he thought. Several days go by...no response (even though I can see the notification that he has in fact read my message). So I called the shop, they said he wasn't in, so I left my name and phone number for him to call me back. A couple of days go by...no response. I call the shop again, and this time he's in but with a client. So, once again, I leave my name and number and was told that when he was on a break, that he would call me back.
That was five days ago...no call back and no response to my message on Facebook. It's clear that Nando is blowing me off for whatever reason. My tattoo was $200 and I gave him a $50 tip! I would've also been willing to compensate him for his time for any touchups that might need to be done. This is all very disappointing to me because it's so unnecessary. I've done nothing to deserve this treatment and to just completely blow off a client for no reason, is beyond unprofessional, especially when you're a business owner! If you are fortunate enough to own your own business, then it's that much more appalling and inexcusable to provide bad customer service. A simple acknowledgment and/or phone call could have prevented this entire review. But now, 400 of my Facebook friends will be notified of my experience, as well as, anyone who reads this review. NOT smart--SKIP Twisted Tattoo!!! read more
