Only a portion of this amazing sleeve by Carlos! The forearm work is years old and still looks fresh

Cannot stress how amazing Carlos Perez's work is - visit him at Twisted!! I've been getting tattooed by him for years now, and even my 7+ year old tattoo looks fresh and gets compliments constantly. He's more than fairly priced (honestly-tip him well!!!) and his work is unreal. I have friends that have tattoos of his that are even older than mine and still look amazing, and the detail work is immaculate. I've got full color sleeve and it's vibrant but his black and grey work is equally awesome. Planning a coverup with him right now and honestly don't plan to use anyone else for tattoos in Chicago. The shop's got easy paid parking on Elston and you can def find unpaid parking on side streets.

    What I wanted

I asked for some bloody chicago stars with some dark shading around them, starting price $100. Ended up paying $140 because I asked for shading and this is the kind of "professional" shading work I received. Totally 100% dissatisfied with this tattoo. The stars came out nothing like the original picture I wanted.

Best Tattoo place!!! EO did my awesome amazing Elephant tattoo!!! Everyone here is extremely friendly!! Place is very clean! I will definitely recommend everyone I know to come here!

These are the tattoos. When you look at them on my arm, it appears as if they are moving.

Added some new ink this week. It was my first time at Twisted Tattoo, and I am glad I went there. It is such a clean place with a great staff. James did my tattoo, and I couldn't be any more happier with the result. It was the first time seeing James and I don't regret one thing. He helped me decide on which tattoos to get from the samples I brought in. He gave me insight to what each tattoo would look like being that they were black ink line tattoos. We decided on geometric tattoos - one on the left forearm and one on the right forearm. He took his time and was very precise. He kept saying "I have ocd" which I loved because it meant the tattoos would look great. A great experience. Would I recommend James? You bet. He made the experience easy and he is a great guy. Go you won't be disappointed.

Vanessa did a great job on my nose.

Twisted Tattoo is professional, clean, and really great at communicating. The first time I visited Twisted Tattoo was to try and get some of that Friday the 13th inkage. However, it was way too crowded, which they did a very good job of communicating to anyone that called or was trying to come in. You snooze, you lose, right? I visited Twisted again after calling to see if they'd have time to re-pierce my nose (gotta get that extra hole in my face, ya hear?). I was able to walk-in, but it's probably best to call for an appointment just in case. The whole process probably took 10-15 minutes from entry to exit. They brought me in and did the dang thing. Vanessa pierced me. She was very gentle and answered all of my questions and gave me her number should anything get funky. She gave me a selection of three simple rings, which was really surprising and nice as I wanted to go with something a little more simple. She also gave me the cleansing instructions for aftercare. The piercing looks great, and I am super happy. Really great customer service and an artful, professional piercing job.

Got my earlobe pierced, signed the papers, and got it done! Took all of like 15min. Very efficient service, the woman was very nice and did a good jobe on the piercing! Should note that they only accepts cash, but there's an atm very close by! Will definitely return

Taken just after the finishing touches were added. Took approximately 3 hours (with breaks) to complete the 7" diameter tree.

I honestly cannot say enough good things about this place. Everyone is friendly, the atmosphere is open and inviting, and they take cleanliness deadly seriously. I've wanted to get a tree of life tattoo for at least a decade. Once I found the perfect image, I needed just the right artist to make it come alive. I ended up working with CamiloC2C, and OMG did he do a fabulous job. I gave him my image and an idea for my colors, then asked him to use his knowledge and vision to bring it all together. He did an absolutely fantastic job. He also took into account that I have a lot of allergies, and was incredibly thoughtful about my needs. I've gotten a few tattoos from other shops before, but Twisted Tattoo is officially my favorite, and I'm heading back shortly for my next piece!

Flash back to 2009. A friend told me that this tattoo studio in our neighborhood was giving half of their night's take to charity-I don't remember who they were donating to but I think it may have been related to rescuing abandoned pets? So I decided to check them out (what better way to feel less selfish about a decidedly selfish act than to have half of your money go to charity?). I've since been to these guys for every piece I've had done save one piece I got while visiting a friend in California. The Cali tattoo, btw, doesn't fit in with the rest of the Aztec/Mexica theme I have; the color is all wrong even though I had a perfect example in color for him. Needless to say I won't be going to anywhere besides Twisted from now on. These guys are the most down-to-earth, humble, laid back guys you'll ever trust your skin to. Did I mention how ridiculously talented they are? The color and line work on my latest piece is stupid good. Nando is the artist behind this piece and I swear at least 3 times a week someone asks me if it's a real tattoo because the color is still so brilliant and the lines are so damn clean. A few times a year they are involved in some kind of charity or holiday discount. I believe they were involved in a tattoos for tatas event to raise money for breast cancer awareness/research. Hey, no one wants to see ladies lose their tatas, emirite?? For Cinco de Mayo, they ran a 20% off Mexico related tattoos. I really, really wanted a tattoo of Xuihcoatl (Central American serpent). I really, really wanted it in color. I was really, really broke. I said I could spend about $170. Nando paid it forward with a simple "Hey, you come in here all the time, you always bring your friends, you're a damn good friend to us, and we all like each other! How does $150 sound- full color?" He then proceeded to put on the most awesome smooth jazz, offered me Cinco de Mayo refreshments (they'd had a BBQ for customers, friends, and neighborhood people for the holiday), and chatted me up during the whole procedure like we were old friends. When I was in to get a Michael Jackson tattoo, Nando decided to give Carlos (dude actually doing the tattoo) inspiration by playing Michael Jackson for 3 straight hours. It was hard not to dance- for all of us. So it boils down to this: Go here. Forever. These guys will treat you right, the prices are great, and unlike most Chicago tattoo establishments, these guys are genuinely interested in your choice of art and maintaining a good relationship with you instead of the cattle-call ways of some other well known places in this city. Every artist I've had work on me here is extremely talented and Nando is the heart and soul of the place, keeping it down-to-earth and making you feel right at home.

I LOVE this place! I waited several years to get a tattoo, and I am beyond satisfied with the work of Ben Duarte. He tattooed an amazing peacock on my side for my 25th birthday gift to myself. I had an initial consultation with him and he told me to find example pictures of peacocks and I brought them in on my flash drive. A few weeks later I returned to see the original sketch he had drawn and was beyond excited to have it done. Ben was a pleasure to work with and made the experience of getting my first and last tattoo incredible. He worked for almost 4 hours straight with one break, and was very professional despite working on such a revealing area of my body. I plan to go back this summer to have him work on shading/coloring.The other staff here is friendly as well and I have been a few times to purchase nose rings and have had them put in for FREE! Highly, highly suggest if you don't mind spending a little more money, but want highest quality work.

    Aly redid my tragus piercing
    Tracy L.

Finally an update on my tragus piercing! It came out and split my poor tragus in half back in March, so I waited a while for it to heal before trying to re-pierce it. Well, it turns out that today is almost exactly a year since I first got it pierced. Called ahead to make sure Aly would be in. I got there and she was very prompt and started immediately. The whole process from entering the store to leaving took about 20 minutes. Everyone in the shop was super friendly, she listened to all my concerns, and got to work. She re-pierced my tragus closer to my head to make sure that it would not come out again. Definitely hurt a lot more than last time but anything to make sure that I don't have to endure this process a third time! Also, there was no extra charge (would've been mad if there was!). You can check out my re-pierced tragus in the photos. Aly's a great piercer and I was very pleased with her work. All in all, I've gotten 3 (now 4?) piercings here. Thanks, Aly!

Great addition to the lone wolf

Heard about this through a groupon and today was the last day to redeem the gift card. Made the trip to meet with Camilo and talk about first just shading in my original tattoo and getting some words under the wolf. He told me I had a doodle and we needed to get something to compliment my back. He was right. Time to be a big boi and step up to the plate. And batter up. After finding the right tattoo I decided to get mountains in the background of the original wolf and add some color and a words. "Feed the right wolf" Camilo came up with a great font for the words and also picked out some nice colors for the updated tat. Needless to say my original ink was due for an upgrade and I'm happy Camilo put this into reality. Thanks for the new artwork!

The work was stellar. The staff was major league, and both my brother and I left very impressed with the work we got.
    Charles J.

For a place that my brother and I just walked into without doing any research, the artists went above and beyond the call of duty. Their work is stellar and we both left with killer tattoos. If you're looking to get something done, this is a place worth looking into

    Cancer ribbon, by Stacey
    Emy F.

Let's this review off by stating that this is the first place in Chicago I've ever gotten a tattoo. Recently, I decided to get my 5th tattoo which was a memorial cancer ribbon and sought out a consultation from Twisted. Immediately I dealt with Stacey and I really enjoyed being able to talk to him about the tattoo and what I wanted and I was shocked to hear the price, $60. That's so reasonable considering a place in Lakeview (where I dealt with some assistant and not the actual artist and got a funky attitude wanted $160 for the same thing). I decided to come back tomorrow and have Stacey do my tattoo. That following day was actually the anniversary of my friend's death and I was super nervous which wasn't rational since I've gone through tattoos four times previously. Stacey started setting up and when I explained to him how nervous I was, he didn't pressure me and instead just gladly rescheduled me. One the day of my rescheduled appointment, we got straight to business. When I explained my reason for being so nervous (more emotional than actual nerves) he made me feel so comfortable. Never in my previous 4 experiences has any artist actually sat with me and talked to me the entire time. Really cool also was the fact that when I was being curious about the colors and needles, he wasn't annoyed and actually showed me everything I had questions about. He helped me choose the best spot and colors and stopped periodically to make sure I was handling the pain and everything well. I was quoted an hour and Stacey got it done in about 30 minutes and it's the best tattoo I have on my body. I told him that day that he was by far my favorite tattoo artist, and I'm willing to publicly admit that too. He is so amazing and has great "bed side manner". He treats you like a friend instead of just some client for that hour. He also had a personal aftercare lotion he gave me to try and gave me his number to contact him if anything funny/weird/not normal was going on with my tattoo. Completely and utterly awesome and so beyond my expectations. I would not go to anyone else in Chicago and I plan on having much more done. Thank you Stacey! You really are my favorite!

He saw me right away, went over everything and was very kind and professional. He gave me his contact information if I had any follow up questions. Was super excited to get my industrial re-pierced but had to walk out because of their problematic and unprofessional employees. Before I even walked in, I could see the piercer laying down on the chairs (first red flag). During the consultation she was actually knowledgeable, nice, and made me feel comfortable even though she talked me out of re piercing my industrial saying it was an "advanced" piercing. I figured maybe too advanced when she's half asleep so for my own safety I went with my gut feeling and agreed with her simpler suggestion which I was still excited to get: a mid helix. However by the time I got to the front desk- whose only job is to gather the information the piercer gave them and proceed with checkout- the interaction somehow became more painful than getting any piercing done. The employee kept acting extremely puzzled (kept saying "I'm confused" to my answers to her OWN questions)... how is that even possible? Then every time I asked a simple question about jewelry design, it was the same response: "I'm confused", in addition to unnecessary attitude. I've worked with people with actual cognitive delays and it was very obvious this wasn't the case. They just wanted to be difficult for no reason because not only was she acting confused and being rude, she was also talking about me to her coworker which also proceeded to give me attitude and be passive aggressive. I saw one of them come back from talking to the piercer and then all of a sudden the piercer changed her mind and said she could go ahead with the industrial piercing -No thank you! That's when I matched their energy and expressed I wasn't comfortable with their behavior before trusting them with my body and doing something invasive, apologized to the piercer and walked out to that same employee saying " I hope you have a beautiful day". I was indeed having a beautiful day until I walked in and had to deal with their ugly attitude and continued to have a beautiful day as soon as I stepped out. Maybe they need to start embracing beauty into their lives instead of being intimidated by positivity and projecting their frustrations on customers- after all, people get piercings for a variety of positive reasons not because they hate themselves. Maybe try matching the customers energy next time. Respect yourself, your energy and your body and go somewhere where actual professionals won't use you like a guinea pig to project their frustrations, sadism, hate and incompetence on. If this is how they really treat people, let alone potential paying customers, they need to be in a therapist's office, not a piercing shop.
