The vibe is cool AF! All the artists are exceptionally talented, each with their own unique brand!

I got my first (probably only!) tattoo at Deluxe Tattoo, courtesy of Claudio. He did a wonderful job from start to finish -- not just the well done art but also how he put a lot of effort into the preparation, making sure I knew how to maintain the tattoo during the healing process, and being just all around a really cool and friendly guy. My wife also got a tattoo from Claudio right after mine -- she too was very happy! read more

While my brother was here recently, he wanted to get a tattoo to commemorate his visit. I highly recommended Deluxe Tattoo here in Chicago. He decided on the Chicago flag, which was interesting to me because as a child, Chicago wasn't his favorite place but as an adult, he had fallen in love with Chicago. I already have a Chicago flag tattoo, but when I saw the most beautiful rendition that Claudio at Deluxe created for my brother, I knew it was time to restate my love for this city and my brother with matching tattoos. I am on the left (my right outer wrist) and my brother on the right (his left forearm). Can't wait to see how these look when they are completely healed. My brother was a walk in, and he was fortunate enough to get Claudio and my tattoo was a follow up, scheduled appointment two days later. Claudio had my design ready to go when I walked in, no waiting. So kind, gentle and talented. read more

Been seeing John Wayne for about a year. he will take whatever art you offer as a sample and find ways to make them pop even more, his skills with color are unmatchable. I set an appointment to get 2 tattoos, and the artist I was assigned took me between appointments. She told me that she works fast, but I do believe working fast did not afford me any real consultation on the tattoo inspiration photos. My tattoos did not turn out well, especially once they fully healed. I ended up going to another tattoo shop to fix the tattoo closer to the inspiration photo, and my 2nd tattoo, I am just going to end up getting a full coverup. You cannot read the words, and I would assume that the artist would have given me guidance on what needed to change so that my tattoo would look better upon healing. The 1st photo is the inspiration, 2nd is what I received, 3rd is the touch up read more

This place is great and they take care of you! We explained what we wanted and brought the image to life! Also colored it as well! The place is great , you pay for parking but free across the street .. not bad this 3 hours $7, so take a pic of your tattoo the scan it and outline it ! Also make an appointment.. they do have a tattoo minimum this year 2023 it's $100 idk about next year or the rest. Our tat was small but meant something, 8 years in the making we wanted it to be a part of us. We are both from Cali , we love the beach , she's left handed so it went on my left arm, hers in on the right (I'm right handed) palm trees and the sun! We have been best friends since I was 8 now I'm 38 almost 40! So that's just cray! Our tattoo artist says they give free touch up for the work they do! So that's awesome and Nana gets to visit if she's needs a touch up! read more

I originally went in for a touch up, which I received from Danise. She was great, so I asked her about doing a coverup. Danise explained that coverups weren't her specialty, and because I wanted a comic character, she introduced me to David. David is/was awesome! We had a consultation, he reviewed and tweaked the artwork to match my skin tone. I really appreciated David's explanation of the color blending process. Over three sessions, the end result is exactly what I was looking for. If you are looking for someone who can handle anime, Marvel, and DC characters, David is your man!. read more

I was referred to deluxe tattoo by a colleague and upon reaching out to Ben, immediately received a response and was in there the next day for a consultation. From the minute the process started, Ben was super thorough and hands on and saw my vision better than I did. I had an entire sleeve done and have already scheduled future appointments. Ben will be the only tattoo artist I go to from here on out. Clean, professional, accommodating and most of all fantastic artist. Could not recommend Deluxe Tattoo more! read more

It's hard to oversell how good an experience this was. I emailed the shop, heard back maybe an hour or so later and was able to get an appointment within 24 hours. I worked with Danise who is an amazing human and a beautiful soul. She was an incredibly calming presence and talked me through every step of the process, which was immensely appreciated as this was my first tattoo. She had an incredibly light hand and the conversation made the two hours fly by. Everyone in the place down to the regular customers were so warm and inviting. I highly recommend this place to anyone thinking of getting tattooed in Chicago. Amazing people who are insanely good at their craft. read more

They hate walk ins here , came in and did not even look like any of them wanted to help . Poor service . Good thing I saved my money and went elsewhere where . Walked in and they just did not want to work with me at all . They aren't even proud of the flash they have Update on review : pricing or budget isn't an issue and that is not why I'm unhappy . The two people who came to the counter were rude and clearly didn't want to help me at all . I mean it was just so unwelcoming and I've been to a few shops in Chicago, the worst experience happened to be here read more

Ben Wah is the absolute best tattoo artist I've ever worked with. He has done 3 pieces for me and every one has been amazing. I frequently get complements about his work. We started out with him doing some cover up work which no one else in Chicago would have been able to do. The last piece was a tribute for my wife which he absolutely nailed! I would recommend him 10 times over, the wait is well worth it! read more

From the owner, Ben Wahhhj I had a fantastic experience at Deluxe Tattoo! Ben Wahhh, through the end of my tattoo with Denise Wolfe, it was an +. Ben promptly answered all my emails and asked thorough questions to understand my needs. This allowed him to book an appointment with the perfect tattoo artist. Using the word artist, the description is not accurate. She was much more than an artist! This was my first tattoo, and she babysat me from start to finish. I have a painful stroke-related shoulder issue. She raised and lowered the chair and proactively took as many breaks as I needed. She was also highly personal. Now is where the artist plays a valuable role. I am including a picture of my basic tattoo; I encourage you to go to the website and look at her fantastic detailed tattoos. This shows her ability to do great work from mine all the way to full arm sleeves and everything in between. read more

This is a top-notch business on every level. Ben responded to my initial email questions within an hour, giving me an understanding of costs and letting me know who would be the best artist for what I wanted (the Hebrew lettering "chai" or "life!" on my inner right wrist). He set me up with Claudio, who has expertise in fine lines. After I made my appointment, communication from the studio via email and text was quick. They asked me to send some pictures of what I wanted and when I got there, Claudio was ready to go. He had stencils printed out, gave me suggestions as to size, and made sure it would be everything I wanted. He was warm, friendly, and given this was my first tattoo, patient with all my questions. He made sure I understood what was happening every step of the way. On the aftercare slip, Claudio wrote down exactly what skin care product to get--not just the name, but also what color the labeling and cap were so I'd be sure to get the right thing. He also said anytime I needed a touchup, just call and let him know--and no charge when I do get it done, it's all part of the cost for getting the tattoo. While I was undergoing the process Ben came around to see how things were going. Clearly it's a business that cares about its clients and their satisfaction. Costs are reasonable, facilities are first-rate, ambience is great, and tattooist artists know what they're doing on every level. This is a customer-oriented business that wants its clients to be happy with their body art. I know I am. Highly recommended! ADDENDUM: After this review was posted, I had another question for Ben regarding the healing process and a concern I had with my tattoo. He answered my email within five minutes with the answer I needed. Let me repeat that: he answered my email within five minutes with the answer I needed. That is the sign of a true quality business. This is THE place to go to when you need some ink. read more

I had a quote on my inner forearm that I loved, but over time, it became so distorted that it was difficult to read. I don't particularly like discussing my tattoos anyway, so to have everybody asking me what it said was annoying. I reached out to one tattoo artist who had done some other work on me to see if he could cover it up and he said something to the effect of, "I'll have to put a black bar over it and then do a full half sleeve to incorporate that. Oh, and it'll take 2-3 days and I only book by the full day." Well, while I love his other work, I didn't want a big black bar and I didn't want a half sleeve. A few months ago, a friend who was very happy with her coverup recommended Ben. I went to see him back in April for a consult and told him I'd like to incorporate some flowers. He said that wouldn't be a problem: no black bar. No half sleeve. He's a super busy guy, so I had to wait until July 1 for my appointment, but TRUST ME, it was absolutely worth the wait! Ben emailed me a few days before the appointment to confirm we were still on. Then he sent me sketches. The actual tattoo took about 2 hours. And he even freshened up the small birds on my wrist so it all meshed well. Ben is an absolute master at coverups. He's not only extremely talented, but he's thoughtful, patient and seemingly has no ego. He just wants you to be happy. And I am. I'm frankly ecstatic. And he might be the king of coverups, but I will be going back to him for any new work as well. read more

I called and was able to get an appointment the next day with Lance. For all of the artists here, you actually send your ideas and whatnot in advance so they can have artwork already prepped for your feedback, edits, and approval. There's also tons of pre-made artwork for you to choose from. And walk-ins can be accommodated. But really, utilize the artists and create something unique. The costs are a little...non-standard. It's not just simply by the hour. It's also up to the whim of the particular artist. (I'll admit, this was pricier than I'm used to. In Vegas, my time here would've been no more than $100. Here, it was $170.) And when you book and appointment, you have to give a $50 deposit, which is later deducted from the cost of the tattoo. The place is large-ish with numerous artists and stations. And everyone is rather professional. Don't bother bringing a pal. No one except those getting tattooed are allowed in the actual tattoo area. All in all, I was pleased with the experience and the work. I'll definitely be back. read more

Ben ben ben..... Your response to me just shows what type of customer service you guys give. And no ben if i had known how you guys schedule it would have not booked. It is not my responsibility to know your artists schedule. You obviously show projection of your irresponsibility by blaming a paying customer for your mistakes. You should ask your artist about their actions before defending and attacking someone who is giving an honest review so others won't have to go thru what i did. -Well Ben, seems like you are too immature to see the real issue here is. I am a customer and i was unhappy about my horrible experience. And yet here you are planting that i am lying lol. Also you are crazy to think that i will be going to this extent if I was not ghosted. Since this message I have not received a call until Aug 25 form your front desk to ask if i was coming. AJ the artist did not call me back for me to ask further questions as i kindly requested her too. I met with AJ face to face and all she said was that she will book me for a 6h appointment saying that my tattoo will most likely be finished. AS SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT KNOW HOW LONG THE LONG PROCESS OF A TATTOO. I agreed and believed it. Though and artist knows their capacity and estimated time of how long it will take for them to finish their art, AJ did not say that it will take multiple sessions and that she cannot book me for a second session until a month after. IF SHE HAD EXPRESSED THAT BECAUSE UNFORTUNATELY IT IS NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY TO STALK HER WHOLE SCHEDULE. i would have given it more thought before booking with her. I expressed how unsatisfied i am about your services and yet you, a grown man is so triggered and upset about me just speaking the truth on a platform that is meant for that . PEOPLE IF THIS IS THE KIND OF BUSINESS OWNER YOU WANNA DEAL WITH GO AHEAD BUT CHICAGO HAS SO MANY GREAT SHOPS AND ARTIST THAT WILL NEVER TREAT YOU LIKE THIS. read more

My experience couldn't have been any more positive. I moved to a new state, and had a craving for the needle... I looked up new tattoo shops on Yelp. Found Deluxe, called them the next morning, they told me to come in and give them some ideas of what i was looking for. Troy helped me out and together we found a design that blended in with my current tattoo set. He had clean linework, there was decent music playing, and i was happy with my finished product. Here is where it gets really good... i ended up moving shortly after i got the tattoo again, to another state. This past weekend, almost a full year and a half after my tattoo was done; i sent Deluxe a message asking for a touch up. I called for a same day appointment and Troy was able to see me that night. Excellent work, great service, couldn't have picked a better spot. Thanks guys read more

After years of wanting a tattoo I finally got one and chose Deluxe tattoo because of their incredible reviews. I was terrified to go in for my first tattoo as I have heard so many horror stories and seen some hideous tattoos on other people. I messaged them about an appointment and they got back to me the following day! I was able to get in that day. I showed Donna, the tattoo artist a couple of designs I liked when I showed up and 20-25 minutes later I was already out the door! She drew up my sketch so quick and was so precise about everything she did. I would highly recommend going to see her, especially if you just want something small and want to get in and out quick! The space is super clean and I felt comfortable the entire time I was there. I am glad I chose them for my first tattooing experience! read more

Lastnight Was my first visit at Deluxe. I was greeted by Aaron Stockwell, who was the artist I was booked with for the appointment. The wait time to book a tattoo was about 3 weeks, which is leaps and bounds what I would of waited for at most tattoo salons. Aaron was easy to talk to and was a great conversationalist as we conversed about multiple topics. He made me feel very comfortable, brought me water when I needed to hydrate, etc. He worked very quickly, but extremely careful to details on my custom tattoo. He didn't have a heavy hand, which really helped me deal with any discomfort I was having. I had almost zero pain and watched him work diligently throughout the course of the 8 hr visit. Aaron only took a couple very short breaks to hydrate and use the restroom. He really tried hard not to waste time; however, didn't work so fast, hard that it would of compromised the integrity of my tattoo. Aaron far exceed my expectations of work flow, talent, skill set, and professionalism. He should be recognized for his diligent work by Deluxe. His work is Amazing! I'll never go to another tattoo shop and will follow Aaron wherever he goes to work. He's an outstanding artist and a wonderful human being. I am very eager to see my finished product here in a few weeks! Great Job Deluxe for hiring this artist! Awesome job Aaron. This piece will be a talking point of many conversations! The word of mouth is the best advertisement! read more

I have had two pieces done at Deluxe and will definitely be going back for more. In 2020 I was lucky enough to work on a custom thigh piece with Jennifer. She worked with me over the design and was super chill and professional through the entire process. I love her feminine approach to the traditional style and two years later the colors are still vibrant. Last night, on a whim, two of my best friends and I decided to try our luck on a walk in appointment for some matching tattoos. We were greeted by Luna, who was very kind and attentive in getting us set up. Danise and Kola teamed up to get our idea on paper and churn out 3 tattoos in a couple hours. Danise gave me an absolutely stunning, delicate floral tattoo. Her line work was on point and the shading was beautiful. She was also so fun to talk to and guided me through picking the best placement (baby's first non-hidden tattoo!). Watching her expertly ink my arm was an absolute joy. I cannot recommend Deluxe enough. It's owned and operated by people who are true artists take the business and craft of personal, permanent art seriously. read more

I went here to get matching tattoos with my friend and overall the staff, sanitation and experience was fine. I got my tattoo first, showed my friend and then it was bandaged. Then she got hers and it was also bandaged. The next morning when we took the bandages off the tattoos were clearly different. It's not just that they needed time to heal so they looked wrong but the line work is completely different. For a tattoos that took the artist only 3 minutes each I WISH he spent more time to make them match. The line work towards the top of my tattoo also looks sloppy where it overlaps and I'm embarrassed to show it off. I'm reluctant to give a one star review to anyone but because this is on my body forever I cannot forgive it being sloppy. read more

Kola is incredible - the entire staff is too, I have never been in a more welcoming tattoo shop. I had a consultation with Kola after giving her some reference images, went back two weeks later and she had put together an amazing tattoo that she clearly put a lot of care and attention to. It is the first bigger tattoo I've gotten and was a little nervous but she was great. The other artists stopped by to watch her work and chat which made a huge difference.
