Got my 2nd tattoo here & had a perfect experience! I lived about 10 mins walking from here so I walked in one night and they were able to take me. They set me up with their "mushroom guy" who showed me some similar work he'd done & helped me tweak my idea to something I loved even more. I just went tonight with my cousin and we were both walk-ins. The gentleman upfront (I forgot to get him name) helped us immediately and kept us entertained as the tattoo artists got ready for us. I've never gotten a tattoo done by a professional because I normally do them myself but Jonathan Box was my artist and he was amazing!! Really fast service and fair pricing for where I am from. The vibes & the people in this shop are amazing! My personal experience with Mikey was horrible. He did 2 small red tattoos on me, charged over $200 & stated he stands behind his work. Less than 3 months of them healing both tattoos are started to merge together. Called/Emailed/IG no response for awhile, when I did get a response he basically blamed me & was no assistance in trying to fix them. Mind you I have multiple tattoos & other red ones as well. I can't say enough good things about my experience at Tatu Tattoo recently. My friends and I were staying nearby in Chicago for Riot Fest and decided to get tattoos. At first we wanted to pick something off of the wall, but we ended up asking about something custom. It would have been easy for the staff to be less than kind dealing with a group of young people, but we were treated with respect and kindness by everyone from Kate at the front desk to our artists. The design was ready very quickly, and since they weren't busy they were kind enough to have the different artists that were in on the day work on us all at once. The actual process of tattooing went very well and smoothly. Mikey was so nice and personable while he tattooed me. Mine took the longest, I believe, and we were out within about two hours of arriving, including design time and getting money from the ATM across the street. The price was extremely reasonable, and they even gave us convenient cards with aftercare instructions. We all left extremely satisfied; in fact, we came back with another friend the next day so they could get the same design, and received the same wonderful treatment. All this is to say that Tatu Tattoo is a great classic tattoo studio that I would highly recommend for tattoos in Chicago. read more

I was a walk in last September when I came to visit Chicago and was able to get a tattoo fairly quickly. Service was good, the artist (Nicole) was nice and accommodating. However, she didn't do a good job. Nearly a year later, the tattoo still hasn't healed properly. I have other tattoos and none of them have the same issues as this one. She blew it out by my elbow and the lines are really fuzzy. The ink bled into a vein (where I never had a noticeable vein before). The tattoo is also still raised and I think it scarred my skin. I emailed her a month after I got the tattoo asking about it and she said it was possibly still in the healing process. She offered a touch up for free, which was nice, but I was weary to trust her again after the way my skin healed. Tattoos are permanent so do your research about your artist before committing to getting one. read more

i had such a great experience here. my artist was cera, and they were so kind, warm, and informative throughout the whole process, not to mention insanely talented. they cooperated with me so patiently and the end result is gorgeous. my roommate who accompanied me is already itching to get a tattoo from them. fairly priced for the beauty and intricacy of the art. the store itself is open, bright, quiet, and inviting, with chill music playing and lots of plants in the window. i was at ease right away, something i can't say for most other tattoo parlors i've been to, where the vibe and the staff's demeanor are typically way more hostile. a few other things: the whole tattoo process and the tools used are vegan, if that's important to you. also, they no longer do piercings here, so don't come for that. can't recommend tatu, and specifically cera, enough :) read more

Well. Went in on Sunday about 1:30. Ssid it would be an hour probably 2. So it's now been 8.5 hours, no call back.... we checked in after an hour they said well not sure prob another 1-2hrs. Good think we left maybe after 2.5 hrs, cuz they haven't called. Sorry I get your "artist"but come on it's a business, inexcusable. They could of been honest, either sorry too busy or sorry your smaller tatoo not worth our time, but cone on smallest tatoo starts at $60. I went to Tatu Tattoo for my two most recent tattoos during COVID-19 once Chicago moved into phase four of reopening. They were very communicative about scheduling and the shop felt very pandemic safe with distancing and procedures when I went in. Neal did my work and was great and really collaborative about the experience. These were my 11th and 12th tattoos but when I was paying after hitting the ATM, I overheard some initial consulting conversation he had with another client and it sounded like he'd be just as great for someone coming in for their 1st tattoo. I got my conch pierced last week. I came In a few days previously to ask some questions and the "head piercer" ( whose name I don't remember ) spoke to me and was extremely friendly and helpful. A few days later I came in and met Steve, who helped me make an appointment and decide what I wanted to get done. I wasn't sure what I wanted and he was really informative and helpful in helping me choose. I came in the next day and the entire thing took exactly a half hour. I could tell Steve was extremely comfortable in what he was doing, and as a result he made me feel comfortable. I wasn't nervous to begin with, but if I had been I'm sure he would have calmed the nerves. He was casual and conversational so it wasn't like a doctors office appointment, which is the vibe I've gotten from other piercers and shops. He was straight to the point and over all my experience there was generally good. He really cared about the turn out of my piercing, where as other people I've gone to have just drawn the dot and poked the hole to get it over with. He made sure it was a good spot that would look good, and he was just as invested in the turn out as me. And it looked freakin awesome when it was done. Seriously, I haven't been this happy with a piercing before. It looks dope as hell. Anyways, Steve takes a real pride in his work and I would definitely recommend him. I came here a couple of months ago for a nose piercing and was kind of neither happy nor unhappy about the whole process. Micah, my piercer, was a cool guy and we had a decent chat but the piercing took a bit long and there was a bit of an issue after piercing (with putting the actual stud in) which was a bit uncomfortable. They didn't send me home with any aftercare and not too long after my piercing got infected and came out. There goes $60. By the way, no credit cards...so I had to go to an ATM down the street to take money out. :( read more

So I wanted a tattoo for my 18th birthday, so my mom and I went to jade dragon. BIG MISTAKE they were going to charge me $180 for a tattoo the side of a quarter. Which made me sad because I really had wanted one that day. I texted my friend and she told me that she got her tattoo over at tatu tattoo in wicker park. So my mom drove me over there just to scoop out the place. Turns out that for $120 and for a tattoo the size of my palm (I have big hands for a girl) they would do the tattoo that I had designed. Please, save yourself the pain in the long run and DO NOT go here for your tattoo. I wanted a basic black vertical bar on my forearm, and the artist who did it did such an abominably terrible job that I wanted to get it fixed right away. I went to another artist and have been working with them to figure out how to fix it and was told today, over a month after healing, that I would have to wait 3-6 months before it can even be touched because the skin is so badly scarred. So not only does it look awful, but the artist who worked on me (Pooh Bear, I believe was his name) worked the skin so hard that I have to wait half a year to get anything fixed. The artist, or at least the other artists in the shop, should have known that he wasn't suited to anything that required precision and stopped him before he made a wreck of my forearm, but nobody said a word. And to make matters worse? I paid over $200 for it. I'm honestly devastated. I never write reviews, I'm aware this is harsh, and I feel bad because the artist himself was a good conversationalist and generally nice, but nobody should go through the trouble I've gone through to get a tattoo that doesn't make them recoil when they look at it. read more
