My friend got her first tattoo from here, so I decided to check this spot out. There's a $125 minimum. (Charge $125 an hour) and mine took about 2 hours. I have a pretty good pain tolerance and didn't find it to painful, but I will admit I held my friends hand the whole time. Place is really clean and they except walk ins. I walked in on a Sunday afternoon and had to wait a few hours, but there's so many restaurants and shops on that street it wasn't a big deal. I love my tattoo and the detailing is awesome! Wish I remembered my tattoo artist name. He did a great job.

Are you getting your first tattoo? Go to Metamorph. Are you getting your 10th tattoo? Go to metamorph. Why? Here's why... * Their customer service is stellar. * They are as clean as clean can possibly be. Seriously, I've never seen a shop take the precautions they take. * They are EXTREMELY collaborative. The owner said "We will work with you on the piece of art you want, design it and redesign it until it's exact" That being said, we had a long chat about what I wanted and then nailed the design on the first shot. David was my artist and I'm delighted with my tattoo. * While I was being tattooed I overheard the owner talking to a couple. They had lost someone dear to them and are thinking about getting their first tattoo as a tribute. He was so kind and compassionate with them and it felt incredibly human and warm. * The vibe in the shop is solid. Great music, happy artists and super comfortable. This was a spur of the moment decision. I'm in Chicago for a few days from out of town. They treated me like they've known me forever. Derek is the owner. His manager is Antonio and my artist was David. Call and find out when those three are there and make it happen.

The coolest tattoo shop I've been to. The people there are really nice and welcoming. The environment is perfect for getting a tattoo. Berserk did my Akira tattoo on my thigh and I absolutely love it

I would highly suggest this studio as well as going to see David Kline. The studio itself is clean, well lit, and well maintained. You can tell the owner and staff take pride in the building and their stations. Everyone there was friendly and seemed very nice. No one acted like a diva tattoo artist. Or like they were put off by clients in the lobby or waiting area. David was wonderful to work with and to be tattooed by. He's very talented but in addition to that, he's friendly, kind, and professional. He listens to what you are looking for and works with you to get the idea on paper. I enjoyed my experience all around and will be going back to David for more work. I'm very happy with my piece and my experience today. Thanks David!

If you know me, you may have heard the legend of an infamous spelling and grammatical error on my side. I won't spill the whole story of that experience in this review, but let's just say I've been a little hesitant with my body art after one hell of a tattoo nightmare. Well, Metamorph Studios completely took all of the anxiety I had and laid it to rest with a caring, creative, and safe environment for my most recent piece. After a few hours with my man Brian Clutter and I got not only a better wolf sketch on my arm than I originally envisioned, but I feel pretty comfortable with him to be my go to guy in Chicago moving forward. So, in my short tattoo career here are the two most valuable lessons I've learned. #1 Do not choose a tattoo studio based off of a Yelp Deal. And #2 Metamorph is a pretty professional place to go instead, and don't worry what it costs.

The portion to the left is the original tattoo done at another facility. The portion on the right was done at Meta.

Pretty disappointed overall. Essentially I received an addition to my tattoo that was poorly done. I went to several other tattoo parlors afterward to see if they could fix it and multiple artists asked if it was a poke and stick. The staff was friendly when I finally reached out and seemed very accommodating and collaborative over the phone. I was told the manager would be present when I came back, but he wasn't. I requested that a different artist do the fix and when I got there to speak with the new artist, the original one was sitting 5ft away. Maybe it was disrespectful about having someone else redo it? But after my disappointment with the original artists work I wasn't comfortable having it redone by him. It was very intimidating. I thought it was super odd that they'd have a consult with me in front of the old artist. I was also told by the new artist that I shouldn't expect it to be "perfect". And that the piece I wanted was too small. In my mind, the original artist probably should've told me that to begin with considering I'm not an expert on tattoos. Compared to my other tattoo parlor experiences the whole thing was just odd. All that to say, I am getting it removed now. Would never recommend this place to someone, although I've had friends go here that are happy with their pieces. I guess I would just be very careful who the artist is that works on you.

My beautiful birthday dreamcatcher designed by Allen. Just finished on 7/26/14

I came in here on Saturday and had a truly great experience from beginning to end. My day started off pretty terribly, as another shop in the area completely blew me off (after I'd had a standing appointment for 3 weeks) and I was left in the dust as for getting the tattoo I'd scheduled for my birthday. I walked in here and explained the situation to Derek - and he made sure I was taken care of right away. I can't say enough good things about the customer service here, Derek was fantastic and so was the woman working the front desk (I apologize - I forget her name! But she was wonderful.) Derek got me set up with Allen and he got right to work drawing up my design. He talked through my ideas with me and made sure it was something I really loved before committing to it. It was my biggest piece by far, and took a considerable amount of time. Allen stayed a solid hour after closing time to finish my piece and rushed no part of it, despite the fact that I was also technically a walk-in that day. My artist was also very friendly and easy to get along with - it made the 3 hour sitting much more bearable! I'm in love with my tattoo and get so many compliments on it already. I'll definitely be back here for my next one. Thanks again to everyone!

LOVE my black & white owl. He'll be getting some color in a couple weeks!

I chose Metamorph for my first tattoo. It was recommended to me by Kevin (my hairdress at Fringe across the street. Great place!). I walked in and was greeted by a very friendly Michael Ferrell. I described what I was thinking and took a look at some of his stuff. He was very professional, friendly, and took care to make sure that I knew exactly what was going on since it was my first time. I just got home from getting the first stage of the tattoo a few hours ago and I can't stop staring at it. I LOVE it. (See the Owl photo I posted) Michael did a great job and I can't wait to see what ideas he has for the color! I took a look at some of the other artists books as I was waiting and was really impressed with a lot of their stuff. I definitely recommend Metamorph, especially if you are a first timer like me!

A girlfriend recommend Metamorph Tattoo Studio to me as she's gotten a few pieces done by Technique there. I browsed their website and really liked one of their artist's, Jacob, work. I shot him a quick email as I saw he was by appointment only, and he responded right away that I could come in for a consultation to discuss my idea that Saturday, and then from there we could work an actual appointment to get the tattoo done (after putting in a deposit). When I came in for the consultation, there was three or four people waiting in front of me to talk to Jacob - he's obviously a popular fellow, and judging by his work, rightly so. Jacob was very professional and friendly during our consultation, taking my ideas and then giving suggestions. I will say that he is very much an artist, so if he thinks something will look better one way versus something you've suggested, he's not afraid to voice his opinion. So if you are dead-set on getting a particular image or an exact replication of a concept, you may want to work with another tattoo artist. We wrapped up my consultation with my putting down a deposit ($50 that went towards my final tattoo fee) and his promise he would call in the next two months to book me for an appointment (yes he was booked until April and it was end of December that I came in for my consultation). Fast forward to mid-February - I got a text message from Jacob early in the week saying one of his Friday appointments canceled and that he could take me early. I was ecstatic and quickly confirmed I could make it. When I went in Jacob showed me what he had put together based on some images I had sent him and ideas, and worked with me for more than an hour (tweaking the image and font/placement of the lettering until it was exactly what I wanted). His studio is downstairs in it's own room with a TV which was nice as he let me pick a DVD to watch while getting my tattoo done (we are both GOT fans so that's what I picked during our session). He was quick and has a great eye/technique, creating a piece that I really love. Afterwards he gave me instructions on proper care for my tattoo and I gave him a hug (and payment for my tattoo of course). Definitely recommend coming to Metamorph (and asking for Jacob specifically) if you are looking for quality and professionalism. It is a bit more expensive than some other places and you definitely could go somewhere else with a shorter wait time, however as it's ink that'll be on my body FOREVER I'm okay with waiting a bit longer and paying a bit more for quality.

Emily F. did my tattoo and did a stunning job. She was super easy to work with and very informative. This being my first detailed tattoo, I had a lot of questions and specifics that I wanted to incorporate and she was extremely patient with me. Whenever I wanted to change something, she gave me her opinion and explained why something different would be better but ultimately let me decide. But she is the artist so I would trust her :) I really appreciated her professionalism and she made me very comfortable during my two hour session. I highly recommend going to her! Her work is unique and absolutely amazing! Thanks Emily!

I got this done 4 years ago there, it's the catbus from my neighbor totoro :) needs touch up though.

I love this place, out of the blue I wanted a tattoo of my phone charm which is the catbus from my neighbor totoro. I showed it to one of the tattoo artist and looked at some pictures of it and drew me the cat in this position. I was pleased for the size and amount I paid for this. Best place ever honestly, I might go back soon for a touch up or another tattoo.

This is the image of the size and placement I wanted

Genuinely can say this is the worst tattoo experience i've ever had in my entire life. I'm messaging the studio and sent pictures of what I want. They say they will draw it out and that my TOTAL would be $150. I said I'm a broke college student and that I can't spend over $200. I make that very clear. They say they have a design drawn. I ask to see it, they never send it. I show up and fill out paperwork. The artist invites me back and doesn't have a design of what I wanted, so i'm not sure why they ever said they had a design for my tattoo. To make things worse he starts drawing on my tattoo WITH SHARPIE!!! There was no stencil made for my tattoo!! While the artist is drawing my tattoo I mention the pretty sh**ty tattoos he's done that are on his instagram. He started making all sorts of excuses like needles, ink, and then starts blaming his customers!!! He goes on and on about how they all don't wash them properly... Seeing that a lot of people know the proper procedure as it's quite simple this seems highly unrealistic considering how many of the tattoos he's done haven't healed well or look bad. The drawing ends up looking NOTHING like what I wanted and I think he could tell I was upset. As you can see in the pictures it's too high up, too small, and no where near the same shape. It's also really sloppily drawn. He kept asking to see the picture of my snake. Had he had a drawing like he claimed this wouldn't have been needed. He offers having another artist there do it so I say yes please. This new artist is a guest artist and he sits down with me knowing this isn't what I wanted. He's looking at what I want and is super helpful. He lets me know he didn't have any openings for today. Unfortunately I was on a trip and couldn't come back to see him for this tattoo. He also informs me that the tattoo would realistically be around $600. keep in mind I was specifically told the total would only be $150. Anyways, the guest artist guy feels really bad is super sweet and lets me know the other artist is definitely gonna hear about this from him. Moral of the story thank you so much Gordon for being so helpful, but on a real note worst tattoo shop experience i've ever had. I left today with no tattoo and in a terrible mood. Will never come here again.

Done by Emily clean lines and very detailed considering i got a tiny piece. I'll definitely recommend this place.
