We worked with Natalie and Krystal to learn a choreographed tango for our first dance at our wedding and they were so full of enthusiasm and warmth all throughout that we knew we were at the best place to create something special and memorable. We were looking for a location primarily in Chicago to learn a choreographed wedding dance just a month out from the special day. Due to the time constraint, most places were skeptical or only wanted to teach the basics. We were referred to Natalie and from the first introduction, you can tell she would not only be fun but also invested in your success and confidence when it comes to the performance. At times, it also felt like a collaboration as Natalie was always open to incorporating our ideas and also didn't shy from challenging us to go bigger with moves we might not have considered but she believed we could accomplish. We switched to working with Krystal midway as Natalie recovered from a broken ankle (but who still showed up!) and it was a seamless transition. We also got extra practice time thanks to Natalie's husband, who also helped capture video, opening the studio while there was a winter storm. There are not enough compliments to give the Move the Beat family for how personable and genuine they all are. Come wedding day, we felt prepared, comfortable and excited to dance thanks to the creativity and instruction from Move the Beat. They deal with young children to high schoolers, so as long as your kid is old enough to walk and talk and young enough to not be able to legally buy lottery tickets, you can send them here! I myself am NOT a kid, contrary to popular belief, so you might be wondering what exactly Supreme has to offer since it's primarily a place for youth instruction. Well, the studio is a top-tier choice for various pop-up classes, workshop sessions, and team rehearsals due to their low rates, accessibility, and fantastic customer service. This place is like home to me because of the hundreds of rehearsals and classes I've been to here. It can also be rented out for non-dance events as well; just inquire about it. The one downside of the studio is the neighborhood. This isn't a problem with the studio itself, but the neighborhood is extremely uptight and FREQUENTLY makes noise complaints to the Skokie police when stuff goes past a certain time. The neighbors have been super problematic from my experience and kind of frustrating; it's not a nice experience when the cops are showing up once a month because of a noise complaint. Can't really do much about this though; the boomers just need to deal with it. You will not find a better recommendation from me for a youth dance studio in the area. Her advanced level dancers, particularly the ballet classes, are by far superior in terms of technique and artistry compared to any other local studio/program. I've seen many dance shows locally (being a retired ballet dancer myself) where there are students on pointe shoes who do not have the strength to be on pointe yet, and its scary because these girls could get hurt. Not at Galina- no one goes on pointe who is not physically and technically ready for pointe no shoes.Furthermore, you can see the passion and love of dance in the student's faces- no one would go through such a rigorous, Russian based training without truly loving to dance. The owner encourages this love of dance by keeping things fresh and exciting, and inspiring each student individually. All of the other teachers are alumi of Galina, so know they are teaching in the same proper way that they were trained. They really care about technique here and, as I have visited other studios, I have noticed that DMA does a really spectacular job. Not only this, but they are really well-rounded. You can get a quality education in ballet, jazz, modern, musical theater, tap, and hip hop with teachers that are great in their field. They are home to even some professionally-affiliated companies like the Chicago Repertory Ballet Youth Ensemble which I was a part of for 2 years, and the Trifecta Youth Ensemble which I have been a part of for a while. No matter what style you're interested in, they have something for you. They have a musical theater program that brings in agents and gives help with self taps from working actors, they have a ballet conservatory, they have hip hop companies, a tap company, jazz company, and a modern company, as well as a mini Glenbrook South poms "prep" company and an Edgebrook All-Stars poms "prep" company. If you just want to take classes with no companies, they have that, too. Don't be fooled, just because they have many different styles doesn't mean they are lesser quality, because DMA puts care into every style they have. As a mainly ballet-lover, I am able to do a variation (dance) en pointe as well as be in the modern company. It's great because even though I did not like ballet as a kid, I grew to love it in the classes I took and was able to decide to take more of them because of the opportunities here. I was even able to go to the YAGP National FInals in Tampa because of the fantastic ballet company. Needless to say, please consider DMA. I was so impressed with the dancing and the colorful costumes that I looked at their website and found they offered dancing classes, plus the classes were very affordable. The school is located in Des Plaines and have two Dance Studios. They also have a Hawaiian store that sell an extensive collection of Hawaiian shirts and dresses; as well as all things Polynesian. The classes are separated by Women's, Men's, and Children's dance classes, and they also offer Ukalele and Polynesian drum classes; as well as Fire knife Dancing for men. Shortly after seeing the Barefoot Hawaiian dancers perform at Tiki Terrace, I enrolled in their Kane (men's class) Dance class every Monday night. The owner and instructor Gwen Keneddy was very nice and patient and really knew her Polynesian culture. The classes were taught in a fun and safe environment, and I learned allot of the dances in a short amount of time. After a few weeks of taking classes, I was invited to perform with the Barefoot Hawaiian dancers at local outdoor events and parades, while pretending to be a Hawaiian native. Lol. The school provided the materials to make the Polynesian costumes, and we paid and assembled the costumes ourselves with help from the more experienced older girls (or the Hula Nazis, as they were nicknamed). I have been with this Dance troop a little under two years before I decided to retire from dancing, but overall, I enjoyed this part of my life. I will never forget the people I met and befriended during my time with Barefoot Hawaiian; it was like joining a member of a large Hawaiian family and Gwen was our mother. If you have an appreciation of Polynesian culture; I suggest you enroll in their dance, Ukalele or drum classes. You will come out with a more appreciation of Polynesian culture, and walk away with a new family. The classes are held one day a week, during the evening, and a normal semester is 8 weeks and only $10 per class.

Competitive Dance Teams - This program is Audition-Only and dancers are placed on teams based on age and skill level. There are five competitive teams with ages ranging from 5 to 15 years old. Teams train several days a week and compete in a variety of styles. The Youth All Star and Jr. All Star teams are our elite level teams that compete at the UDA National Dance Team Championship in Orlando, FL. Our Junior All Stars are the 2015 National Jazz Champions. The Studio 22 High Tek progam is the first and only Illinois youth competitive dance program to have a UDA National Champion Title. Company 22 - Company 22 is an elite dance company that competes regionally and nationally. Members are hand selected based on precision, technique, and skill level.
