Align Orthodontics evaluation was extremely thorough and thought and completely blew me away. Dr. Nguyen walked through all the areas of treatment, duration, complexities, and goals. The evaluation not only had a clinical portion, but had a financial portion too where the total cost of care, payment plans options, insurance etc were discussed. After the evaluation, a formal report detailing treatment was sent! There were so many logistics that Align did well and executed. Initially, I had to come in every other week for visits to tighten my power chains and then eventually I graduated out of that. I also moved out of the San Diego Area and the team was able to accommodate keeping my treatment on track based on their once a month Saturday appointments. Administratively, the office is very organized, you get text reminders of appointments. They are open on selected Saturdays which is really great for flexibility, but appointments do book up, so get on the calendar well in advance. I never had a problem 6-8 weeks ahead getting an appointment at 8 am on a Saturday. The office was immaculate and clean. All the support staff were super great. They also did a great job documenting your journey. My treatment did go a bit longer than expected because I moved out of San Diego and had to do some extra refinements to get things just perfect. Would definitely recommend Align to others!

Marston Orthodontics Trusted Above the Rest!…read more A Familiar Nightmare Scenario This is not a scene which happens at Tijuana in the Twilight Zone, but it happens randomly right here in San Diego! You spend 2 years, an arm & a leg on your Booboo Little, Daria Teen or beloved child's teeth. After 2 long years, the orthodontist had done such superb job on your child's teeth that her teeth now look like a crossover between a Raptor from Jurassic Park & Dracula! For God's sake, the kid used to be a beautiful girl but now there's a striking resemblance between her profile & Godzilla's, to the point that San Diego Zoo offered her a job but not as an employee, yet as a resident! So, you are left with a hole in your wallet, wasted time & a kid who looks like Phantom of the Opera! Humorous but it is actually happening around town more often than you think! How to Avoid Orthodontics Twilight Zone? Simply, read & follow my advice, because I spend good time, research, background check, BBB, reviews & investigate before I hire my contractors. What are the Characteristics of a Perfect Orthodontist? I. Education & Experience Dr. Marston is a dental surgeon with experience in general & cosmetic dentistry + over a decade of orthodontics practice. II. Up-to-date Knowledge & Information Marston keeps up with the latest orthodontics & dental news & inventions. III. Hi-Tech Equipment Marston's practice is equipped with the latest hi-tech intelligent tools: - 3D Printer for making retainers - Orthodontic Wire Bending Robot instead of old tools - 3D X-Ray Machine instead of old ones - 3D Scanner for dental impressions instead of moldings - Hi-Tech Computers IV. Reasonable Cost Marston's prices are reasonable. There's payment plans for all budgets without interest. If you pay cash, you get a discount. V. Reputation Most important factor for being successful is reputation. Marston has loads of old & new clients. His calendar is booked solid. He is so busy that he just acquired 3 different medical offices & formed them as one large office to handle the great number of clients who trust his work. Marston's practice is a very large size office with many workspaces, offices & a lab. Marston's practice is a crossover between a Surfers' Cave & Kids' Arcade! Just imagine how cool it will look after remodeling! Marston is in a class by himself. The secret to his success is not his experience, PR, pleasant attitude or patience, but the fact that he has 4 kids! As a father of 4, he is somewhat of a child psychologist. He gets along with the kids of every age. Kids love his style. I been quietly observing his work, I studied him! Staff * Dr. Blake Marston Orthodontist/DDS Professional & kind orthodontist * Pam Treatment Coordinator/RDA When Sun Goddess was little, Pam used to quick fix Sun Goddess' wires in emergency times. We would go in early mornings, for a quick fix of a sharp wire sticking out, Pam to the rescue. Pam is all class & heart. * Cecilia Office Manager This lady is a character, she goes out of her way to help the clients. Her almost identical Twin sister, possibly a clone who looks like a bit younger her, but don't tell her that because I want to be on her good side, is now in the office too! Cecilia says she is her sister, but there is a rumor, she cloned a younger herself for body parts! * Barbara Dental Assistant She is assigned to Sun Goddess as an expert. She has 30 years of experience! Sun Goddess is very happy! * Michelle Insurance Coordinator She is very resourceful & helpful. * Lola Patient Care Coordinator Very lively lady * Spencer Lab Technician Knowledgeable lab technician which is Pam's son. Plus, a dozen of knowledgeable crew. Story of Sun Goddess Sun Goddess was 8 years old when she done her phase 1 orthodontics with Marston. Doc straightened her teeth. she had to wear retainers at night for at least a year & she did not, so she made the teeth crooked again! I told Sun Goddess, whenever you are mature enough & ready for phase 2, ask me to take you back to Marston? She insisted to do it now! She is 15 & mature enough to stick with the plan. 2 years of braces & then retainers at night to keep the teeth straight! I believe she is mature enough because this summer she will start driving! I paid the full amount in cash so I saved 4%. We got that out of the way & I have a peace of mind that Sun Goddess is in good hands. With Marston, I don't only trust his work & integrity but his humanity. Marston truly cares about kids, so he provides great service for them to make them happy. If you are an adult, teen, child, human or alien, trust me, there's Marston & then there's the rest! I did your research for you, so you don't have to! Sun Goddess is happy, I'm happy, kids in the practice are happy, birds in the sky are happy, little Bambi is happy ... OK, we better stop it right here before this turns to a Disney Classic before they went all PC & Woke! And there's your prayer!

Updated review!…read more Still a 5 star experience! It's been 5 years since I have gotten Invisalign and I have no regrets. I have been using retainers/nightguard since then and because I'm a serial teeth grinder. It's pretty bad. Fortunately, these retainers have saved my teeth. I have worn down a lot of my retainers and I am able to get replacements here at a reasonable time. They usually last 1-2 years depending on how bad I'm grinding. The retainers are comfortable to sleep in. Customer service is prompt, professional, and organized. They are flexible with scheduling and very accommodating. I also appreciate the reminder texts. Always a pleasant experience here and Dr. Maulik and the rest of the staff are very welcoming and nice. The clinic is clean and inviting. The location is convenient and near other stores and eateries. There really is nothing to complain about. Thankfully, they accept my HSA insurance payment, which makes it stress-free for me. Highly recommend them!

Unfortunately, I was cut off with a quick "we don't," which immediately made me feel dismissed and discouraged from wanting to continue pursuing services there. I live downtown, and Poway is about a 35-minute drive for me, so I was simply trying to narrow down my options before scheduling multiple consultations all over San Diego. As someone who works in the service industry myself, I completely understand not always being able to give exact pricing over the phone, but there's still a way to communicate that kindly and professionally without interrupting someone mid-sentence. First impressions matter, and because of this interaction, I will gladly take my services and money elsewhere.

I had a very disappointing experience with Mod Squad Dental regarding charges that were never…read moredisclosed in advance. As a new patient, I relied on the office to verify my insurance benefits and provide an estimate of my financial responsibility before treatment. I went for a routine regular teeth cleaning, which is 100% covered under preventive care (in and out of network). Afterward, I received an unexpected bill for a service I did not request or approve. The office manager, Beth, repeatedly insisted that the charge was a "copay." Preventive care has no copay, and even if it did, it would be a clearly defined amount like $50 or $100 --not a made-up charge or random dollar figure. When I asked for documentation that they had confirmed coverage with my insurance PRIOR to my visit, Beth said they were too busy and cited HIPAA as the reason they could not provide a recording. I did not request a recording; I simply asked for proof that the call had been made in advance, which they were unable to provide. All I received was a screenshot of call that was made to my insurance company on Feb 17, 2026, which is 3 months AFTER my visit and it was their attempt to get my insurance cover the unapproved charge that's not related to my regular cleaning. My insurance also confirmed they had no record of any call from the office prior to my visit. The office's explanations were inconsistent, initially claiming they had contacted my insurance, then later stating they don't have time to call every patient's insurance to confirm coverage. They also claimed they don't have access to the fee schedule because they are out of network, but my insurance confirmed that this information is available on their website and would have been provided if the office had actually called. The conversation grew increasingly agitated, with Beth repeatedly insisting she was too busy, and ultimately ended with her hanging up on me without any effort to find a constructive solution. I'm not sure why I should be penalized for their staffing or time constraints. As a patient, I have no way of knowing procedure codes or coverage details. That's the dentist office's responsibility to avoid issues like this one. In my 20+ years of seeing dentists or doctors across the U.S., I have never received an unauthorized or undisclosed healthcare bill. Transparency and informed consent are basic expectations in any business, and unfortunately, Mod Squad Dental failed to meet that simple standard. Based on this experience, I cannot trust this office and would not recommend them. It's clear from prior reviews that I am not the only patient facing this issue.

If you want the TLDR version, avoid this business because the billing department is horrible. They…read moremisrepresent the out-of-pocket price of services and are unapologetic about it. I was billed an additional $1800 (out of pocket) two months after services were rendered. I would recommend going to a business that is more upfront about what you're actually going to pay. I made my initial appointment for a check up on July 30th. I provided my insurance information during that appointment. Nobody made any issue of my having humana insurance. They just said "yes we accept that". On July 30th I was quoted roughly $1100 out of pocket expense which needed to be paid directly to mod squad dental to fill 4 cavities and do a deep cleaning. I agreed to this pricing and scheduled the services. The appointments were made for 09/22 and 10/06. At the end of my second visit on 10/06 they told me the out of pocket was actually $831.00 great. I paid it happily. Early December, I received a bill stating I owe mod squad dental $1858.00. I had already made an appointment to repair a filling which was too thick so while I was there, I asked them what the $1800 was regarding and the receptionist told me it "well, it's because you have Humana insurance". Ok, what does that mean? She then clarified it's because they're not in network. To be clear, my insurance pays the exact same for in network coverage as it does for out of network coverage. I'm thinking to myself, you knew you were out of network when you gave my good faith estimate. So, what would that have to do with anything? I told her that's a substantial difference and she said she'd speak to Beth the billing person. After my visit I spoke with Beth, the billing person at Mod squad and she basically reiterated that my insurance didn't cover as much as they thought. She didn't offer any other explanations and didn't really seem interested in doing so. I asked for itemized versions of my bill and explanations of what the codes referred to which she provided. I asked where my payment of $831 was reflected and never got an answer. I asked for a copy of my initial estimate and never got an answer. (I threw mine out after the $831 was paid). I disputed the bill with Humana insurance and filed a claim with the California Department of insurance. My dispute was dismissed and I was told by both parties that the billing was much higher than standard rates. I received my estimate from mod squad dental in July and had made my decision to go forward with treatment based on the estimate that was given. Mod squad dental had MONTHS to figure out their estimate was short. They did not turn in a bill to Humana insurance until all services were rendered (after my last visit on 10/6). It's not my fault that they didn't check in with the insurance carrier for 3 months. If I make an appointment with an imaging center they tentatively schedule it pending my insurances approval. Same with my allergist and ENT. Nobody does anything without approval. However, I see a dentist and I get stuck with a bill that's 300% higher than my initial estimate? Absurd I don't have any problem with mod squad dental charging whatever they want for services. That's fine. But if you do this for a living, you know roughly what insurance pays and you know if you've had issues with a specific carrier that you need to tell a client that ahead of time. If you don't want to deal with insurance, cool! Just SAY that. Don't act like it's all good and then just send a bill for 300% more after all is said and done. And to be clear, the issue isn't that they're out of network. As I stated, my insurance pays the exact same amount for in network as out of network. The issue is that they bill above standard rates. This was reiterated by a representative from the California Department of Insurance. This isn't a case of Humana just being hard to deal with or denying coverage. And considering the receptionist's response of "oh it's because you have Humana" when I asked about the extra fees, they are WELL AWARE of the pricing being out of line and they should have told me that before showing me an estimate that reflected a third of what the actual price was. There's a million ways this could have been handled and just sending a bill for 300% of the initial agreed upon price is not one of them. it deserved a phone call or at least an email saying "hey, sorry I was wrong, can we work something out?". I would have absolutely paid the difference to meet the original estimated price. But I am not paying 300% more. I have no intention of paying this bill. I will file a complaint with the department of consumer affairs and the dental board of California and If they can't help me I guess I will have to pay a collections agency because I am not paying this business. Being totally honest, if the estimate had gone up 20%? 30%? I wouldn't have had any issue with it. 300% is completely ABSURD.

When I first found out I needed orthodontic treatment (possibly braces or Invisalign), I was really hesitant. I am not a big fan of dental visits, and the idea of seeing a new specialist didn't exactly thrill me. But I felt at ease when I walked into Signature Orthodontics. The front office staff, especially Terri, made the process smooth and stress-free. She was incredibly friendly and professional and went out of her way to help accommodate scheduling needs (to the best of her ability). Communication was always clear, whether by phone or email, and I never had to wait long for a response. They even handled the insurance side of things, which took a huge load off my plate. I was equally impressed when it came to the consultation with Dr.Jerome. The team walked me through every step, from X-rays to discussing treatment options, and ensured I fully understood everything. I appreciate how they listened to my concerns and goals, and the office vibe was just super positive and welcoming. Even small things like the music added to the experience, it's not just a dental office; it feels like a space where you feel at ease. Throughout the treatment, Dr.Jerome and his team communicated with me, whether it was showing me how to put on rubber bands or checking in on any discomfort I might be feeling. They encouraged honest feedback and created an open space where I felt comfortable speaking up about anything that wasn't working for me. I really appreciated how upfront they were about pricing and insurance. They explained everything in detail (and in easy-to-understand terms), offered flexible options, and answered my questions without rushing me through the process. I never felt like "just another patient." They truly took their time with me during the appointment. Now, after finishing my Invisalign treatment, I couldn't be happier. My teeth are much more aligned, and the entire journey felt smooth, professional, and honestly enjoyable (which I never thought I'd say about orthodontics). If you're looking for an orthodontist who delivers high-quality care with a friendly, communicative, and professional approach, I highly recommend Dr.Jerome and the entire team at Signature Orthodontics.
