The tour was amazing! We got to see all the animals since the sun was going down and it was beginning to get fresher. Our tour guide was great sharing all the fun fact she knew. Shout out to her (forgot her name but she had braids and was tall! ) Just remember to bring water and bug spray.

The Twilight Tour of the Honolulu Zoo was most excellent! A personal tour when the zoo is closed, with a chance to hear about the animals and ask questions. Truly worth it.

I was a big fan of the zoo already and then my girlfriend and I went on a twilight tour. It was great seeing the zoo when it wasn't super hot and super packed. The tour guide Savannah is great at her job; you could tell she's an animal lover and advocate not just someone who works at the zoo.

Lions enjoying the cool air.. side note: Of all the tours our guide gave, she's only seen them out a few times.

Highly recommend this tour for families especially those who are visiting. The time of the tour is perfect! It was cool enough to enjoy the tour comfortably for the 2 hours. Please don't skip out on the bug spray! Even the mosquito seem more active in the evening. It's nice to see the animals moving about as the cooler air contributed to it. We went a few weeks earlier but couldn't see any of the animals because it was too hot for them to come out so the twilight tour is a must if you want to see the animals .Our tour guide Haley was awesome! She was knowledgeable as well as patient. I might just visit the zoo during the twilight tour since the experience was amazing! And for sure cooler

We loved our twilight tour guides! They were so informative and passionate about their work! They shared fun info such as the animals' names, and where they came from. We also got to see a lot of animals up close, such as the tigers and nene! There were about 15-20 people in our group. It was also enjoyable walking around during the cooler hours -- the animals seemed to be more active than the daytime. Would definitely recommend this tour for animal lovers!

Such a fun tour! Our tour guides (Spencer and Savanna) were incredibly knowledgeable and I felt like our two hours flew by. Getting to go to the zoo in the evening was possibly the best way to see the zoo. We are regular visitors to the Honolulu Zoo and usually we make it a pretty quick trip because it's so hot, but this was amazing. Definitely our most enjoyable zoo visit. We got to see animals we'd never seen before and even saw one of the caregivers feeding an aardvark. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone interested in seeing the zoo!

Mosquitoes galore.. a lot of walking, so dont forget your water bottle. Tour guide was very informative, not as crowded compared to when the zoo is open... Petting zoo, playground, stores are closed, but they could make more money if these things were open. On the website they offer lemonade and snacks and that didnt happen.. The great thing about this tour is you know more information about these animals, the downfall is that your not free to roam.. but it's for your safety. I never heard of zoo twilight hours til' I went searching for tickets. i do recommend to attend it, you'd be surprised at what animals come out and sounds they make just because it's later in the evening.

My family decided to book a Twilight Tour at the Honolulu Zoo since my daughter really wanted to go to the Zoo, but we wanted to do it after the afternoon sun hours. The Twilight Tours is a small private tour of the Honolulu Zoo. It lasts about 2 hours. You can book it online at the Honolulu Zoo website. The tours run every Friday/Saturday, but the schedule does change depending on the time of the year, so make sure to check the Honolulu Zoo's website for the Twilight Tour Schedule. Honolulu Zoo is located near Waikiki Beach. If you're staying at a hotel on Waikiki Beach, Honolulu Zoo is within walking distance. The meet-up entrance is at Gate 3, not the normal entrance where the Honolulu Zoo is. Honolulu Zoo has a variety of different animals such as Komodo Dragons, Giraffes, Lions, Tigers, Penguins and much more. The tour guide went through each animal, the characteristics, and living life style of each animal in the wild. It was quite informational and a memorable positive experience from the Honolulu Zoo Twilight Tour. Be prepared, this is a 2 hour tour with non-stop walking, except when you stop with the tour guide to go over each animal. Afterwards, there is a private room you are brought into where you can ask the tour guides additional questions. They provide refreshments such as lemonade and animal crackers. You are then privately led to the "gate-3" to leave the zoo. The tour was so much fun and I left with a lot more information about some of the endangered species then I ever knew before. Great tour!

We heard about the tour re-opening a couple weeks ago and bought tickets for my daughters birthday party. As soon members, it was a reduced admission price, but even if we paid full price it would have been completely worth it given everything we saw tonight. Our hope was to see some animals that we wouldn't normally see during the morning and afternoon hours. We weren't disappointed and in addition to seeing more animals active in their enclosures, we had a guided tour by Takio, really friendly and knowledgeable local guy. Far and aware our best zoo experience yet and we've been going for 20 years. The tour was well organized and each tour guide had probably no more than 10 people per guide. Takio told the story of each animal, how long it had been at the zoo and how they were acquired. A big part of the tour was about the conservation efforts around each animal and contributing factors to their population declines. This is a great way to see the zoo! Highly recommended and worth it. We booked 2 weeks in advance, so I'm not sure how far ahead you may need to book given they probably had 40-50 attendees tonight.

Yes as other reviewers mention…read morethe road is a bit windy to get here but it's pretty worth it and in all honesty it's not that bad of a drive. It's about 20 mins north from the main Waikīkī area. When you drive up, there may be a parking attendant that tells you to pay 7$ (unless you have a Hawai'i license/ID). I don't think it's heavily enforced (for example if the attendant goes on break, you may be able to drive right by and they probably won't know but I guess that's luck) in any case there's signs also recommending you pay 7$ to park. You have two options here in terms of parking. The first spot will tell you on Google Maps that it's 6min to the farthest spot. There's more parking here and shaded picnic areas to enjoy the view off in the distance. From here you can keep driving or you can walk there, it's just a short walk over a small hill (6min is an overestimate IMO). There is a small shaded area but this area is mostly exposed to sun and the elements. However it offers the best and mostly unobstructed views of the city and diamond head. In any case this is a nice alternate to diamond head as the hiking/walking is kept to a minimum. Highly recommend if you can make the trip

I couldn't ask for anything more! The route to get here involves some narrow roads and a few sharp turns through a residential area, but it is manageable. Located within the Puu Ualakaa State Park, you can drive straight to the lookout point and park in the adjacent parking lot. We arrived at noon and there were a couple spots left, however it didn't seem like people spent much time here, so cars were constantly arriving and leaving. We marveled at the view and snapped a few photos before heading out after about 30 minutes. From the lookout, you get a stunning view of the city with Diamondhead in the distance. Informational plaques on the platform provide a history of the area and there is also a small shaded space, which I greatly appreciated. With the increased elevation, you can definitely feel the sun right on your skin so be sure to slather on some sunscreen! Although you will not get as clear of a view of the ocean from here (as opposed to at Diamondhead), this lookout point is a prime example of low effort, high reward!
