I've always loved taking my kids when they were young here & I finally have my baby boy to bring. So it's been awhile since we've come here. Prices are different for tourist & kamaaina rate & military . Make sure to show your id. Parking: parking can be a struggle because they only have a few on the lot & after that it's street parking but it gets really busy. Sometimes you'll have to go around multiple times. Service: The workers in the front are so friendly & nice. I love that. Definitely affects us from coming. If they weren't nice, I wouldn't enjoy being there. I love that they still have the smaller tanks that has all the different kinds of fish & seahorses & jelly fish. I am bummed that the BIG tank only had a few fish in there. They should definitely add a bit more bigger fish inside. I was also bummed that the outdoor area only had the one seal. I remember they had a moi tank & hands on tide pool kind of area for the kids to interact in the water. Definitely need that back. Not too much things there to go visit. Would I come back? Of course for my son but we'll probably wait till we see that they add more things there

While the Waikiki Aquarium was small, I thought it was unique compared to other aquariums I've been to. In the main section of the aquarium, there were a lot of fish, however, there was one gigantic fish that I particularly liked. I also got to see blacktip reef sharks, which I haven't seen at other aquariums before. Outside, I got to see a Hawaiian monk seal, an endangered species. The monk seal was initially resting, but the staff held a feeding session, where we got to see the monk seal get into the water and move around. At a very affordable price, I'd recommend checking out the Waikīkī Aquarium, especially if you need a break from outdoor activities and the sun

Affordable and a fun outing. They have a small but interesting set of exhibits, when we were there they happed to have nesting white turns in the outdoor area that they had put up information about as well as the aquatic exhibits.

The first time visiting the aquarium since I was a kid, but I don't think it has changed much, quite dated. It is very small compared to others we have visited (Scripps, Long Beach, etc) but much more affordable as well. The exhibit space is limited, but the tropical fish are beautiful and it feels very intimate. Great for little kids. All in all, a good value, but not the most impressive display.

This was a small spot but pretty cool. The jellyfish and starfish were our favorite. A good get out of the rain event.

Despite many negative reviews, the Waikiki aquarium has been around for over 100 years. They are currently undergoing heavy renovations but still are open for the public. At the ticket booth entrance, the employees were very nice to us and greeted us warmly. They even had some employees standing near some of their aquarium showcases offering informational "elevator pitch" speeches to anyone walking by who'd like to hear. While most of their exhibits are indoors, the outside is where the renovations are happening. So I won't write a negative review regarding closed "under construction" exhibits. I remember loving this place as a child and I think once construction is over, it'll be that core, childhood memory for many other kids!

A really tiny aquarium if you've ever visited the Monterey Bay aquarium or *any* other aquarium for that matter. But...that's not a knock on this place. The exhibit here is maybe the square footage of a medium sized, two-story house, but they have some sea creatures you don't regularly see, even at the bigger aquariums. And at $12 per person (kids are free under 4 I think), it's still a great value. Visit the gift shop...it's also small, but packed with cool ocean related merchandise. We must've spent 30 minutes in here alone. You'll probably spend an hour at the aquarium side if you stretch and pace yourself. Parking sucks. Find public parking as far out as you're willing to walk.

There really wasn't much to see during our visit. We were here for 30 minutes. They were doing some remodeling when we went. There were no monk seals which was probably the main thing to see here. They did have a few sharks which was cool and a fish named emo nemo. This place is probably best for toddlers who don't want to walk around much and who are fascinated easily.

Small aquarium a short walk from Waikiki Beach. Entrance fee is $12 per person. When we went, the seal exhibit was closed for renovations. They had a good selection of fish, coral, and jellyfish for viewing. The entire aquarium is small and takes 45 min to an hour to complete. There is no restaurant inside. There is a small gift shop and plenty of bathrooms. Great for families or people who love animals!

    Jasmine G.

Oh man, this was a nice experience! I think I only spent a good hour or two here with my family but I genuinely enjoyed watching the beautiful jelly fish and seeing all the little Nemo's. I also enjoyed seeing sharks so close up and in front of my face. That's definitely not something you get to see on the daily. At least not for me. The only lack luster for me was the outside. There was a big pool that looked it housed sea creatures which weren't there anymore. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this time with my family and I would come back again sometime to see the sharks and jelly fish up close again!

I brought my niece to the Waikiki Aquarium today. We were both excited because we have never been there before. The staff was friendly. If you are a resident of Hawaii, they do offer the Kamaaina rate. All you need to do is present your id. Even if you aren't Kamaaina, I feel that the price is pretty reasonable. Though we both thought it would be a bit bigger, we enjoyed our time there. There were plenty of fish to look at. Both my niece and I enjoyed the Jelly Fish exhibit and different aquariums full of fish. We especially thought that the seahorses were cool. Their gift shop was pretty cool too. Expect to take up to an hour to an hour and half for your visit. Parking is limited. While they do offer parking, there isn't a lot of spots. I ended up parking in the lot by the zoo which was pretty reasonable. If you are looking for a fun educational activity to do on a rainy, day, I suggest you visit here!

VERY SMALL AQUARIUM but my 2 year old still had a fun time - she liked looking at the sharks, jelly fish and the sea horses. The pricing was good for what we got tho and we still had a nice time! The outside exhibits were closed when we went. The staff is friendly and helpful. We were able to complete our entire walk through of the aquarium in less than an hour!

    Brittney S.

The aquarium was so nice. Got to see ocean animals, the sea lion wasn't there as it was remodeling. It's so fast probably about 30 mins to get to look at everything. The gift shop had so many cute toys for the little ones and even nice jewelry.

I remember the excitement of arriving here. As kids, we could have cared less about fine dining or the entertainers. It was always, only about the dolphins! Back then, Danny Kalekini, the entertainer, had a long running show at the Hala Terrace. He ended up becoming a permanent fixture. I later discovered that he was nominated to the Guinness Book of Records for the longest running show. Today, you can still see him perform occasionally with his grandson at The Blue Note. Close to the dolphin lagoon was the Maile Room. At the time, it was one of Oahu's few fine dining experiences. Martin Wyss of the former Swiss Inn in Aina Haina (chef owner for 18 years after the Kahala)was the Executive Chef at the time. He served the food of that time period, Continental cuisine . This was enjoyed by the locals celebrating special occasions and celebrities who stayed and visited Hawai'i. This was the place to see all the stars, after all, they had to dine in luxury before curling up to their pillows at night. Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford, Bette Midler, Cary Grant, Henry Kissinger, James Stewart, Henry Fonda, Jim Nabors, Jack Nicklaus, ChiChi Rodrigues, Lee Trevino, James Garner, Lucille Ball, John Wayne, Burt Reynolds,Rod Stewart, Helen Reddy, Eydie Gorme, Merv Griffin, Steve Lawrence and Reggie Jackson. Along with so many other celebrities and sports and entertainment world notables. Jack Lord enjoyed it so much, he became a long time resident at the Kahala Condominiums next door for many years, long after he finished one of CBS's longest running series, Hawai'i Five O. He and his wife, Marie, were seen here (their backyard) on many occasions enjoying the playful dolphins. According to a friend, who has worked at the Kahala for decades..prior to Barack Obama, (who vacationed with his family each winter at a private residence in Kailua) every US president since Lyndon Johnson has stayed at The Kahala. This resort feels far removed from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu, yet it's only 15 minutes from Waikiki. Within walking distance you'll find one of Oahu's most prestigious country clubs, Waialae. A public park, a public beach and the lagoon, containing turtles, dolphins, and fish--creating a setting more idyllic than the Hawaii that many only imagine. When I was a child, penguins and stingrays also found a home here. Dolphin viewing has been as popular as whale watching. The first two dolphins were brought over from Sea Life Park in the mid 60's. The next three baby mammals were transported from Misssisipi in the 70's. The hotel naming them Uku, Nihoa, and Kui. While dolphin-watching from the comfort of a beach chair is a favorite pastime, the best way to experience dolphins is to get out of your chair and jump in the water with them. This is offered too here. The program is called Dolphin Quest, the group managing The Kahala's dolphin and marine animals visitor education programs. Dolphin Quest is the only dolphin public display organization owned, managed, and operated by veterinarians. Along with making this an unforgettable natural experience to interact with dolphins, it is a program that should most notably be recognized. If you feel that this is something that appeals to you, you'll need to save up for this experience. The cost will easily run $500 or more for two people to experience this 1/2 hour together. A wonderful way to create family memories. But if you don't see yourself spending that amount in the near future, you can always head down to visit the dolphins on land (the resort does not charge admission fees). It's not necessary to jump in the water with them. Great viewing from the walkway is fast, simple and easy. Feeding time is the best time to arrive, it's astonishing to see the tricks that dolphins will perform for fish rewards! Call ahead to find out when mealtimes occur. If I'm babysitting or with friends or family who have children, I often suggest a visit for lunch at The Plumeria or brunch at Hoku's followed by a visit to see the dolphins. Which we recently did and it just happened to be Kolohe's (the name of the dolphin, translated means rascal in Hawaiian) 25th Birthday! A cake made of jello and fish was brought out for him, it was very fun for us to join in on the festivities. The ultimate thing to do on a very special occasion is to book a room at the resort overlooking the dolphin lagoon. You'll then be able to enjoy them playing right outside your patio or lanai door. This way you can enjoy them anytime!

We did the turtle tour on 5/13 at 8:30 in the morning. They teach everyone how to use the given gear, they antifog the goggles beforehand and sanitize all the gear well afterwards. They have snacks, water, and ginger ale. We saw two turtles within a couple arms lengths at the surface (you can't touch them but gosh they were so close!). We also saw about seven turtles chilling on the bottom. Tons of reef fish swimming so close to us too. The crew makes sure to point out turtles so you don't miss them. It was my first time in open water and the crew was welcoming from the start. They separate the groups so if you can't swim or are not great at swimming, you can stay back and hold onto a blue mat in the water where they teach you and help you feel comfortable in open water first. Even though I vomited afterwards (yes I took plenty of motion sickness medication ahead of time!), I highly recommend the experience. It's unlike anything else. The crew is so funny, they normalized not being able to swim well or motion sickness so you don't feel embarrassed. They get in the water with you (not all crews do!) and were super attentive, and encouraging. I felt safe enough that I was able to learn, get confident in the water and join the others and I still felt like I had plenty of great snorkeling time. Overall, GREAT company for actually seeing turtles! GREAT for inexperienced swimmers and people who get motion/sea sickness! If you're determined, you can still do it. I rated 4/5 for the snorkeling because it's open ocean vs doing this inside a "bay" You first get a cruise down the waters and learn about the city and the captain t Story tells you a lot of history and the buildings while we are cruising and then we turn around to the play and snorkeling areas! Wow! But knowing my kids they want to also PLAY! Thais is the boat, you have a water trampoline, a water floating board that you legit can lay on or stand on and play balance and or just lay, and a huge slide!!!!! Wow! And drink and snacks are included! We didn't even get a chance to grab a beer! lol (for additional $ on your own) Just look at the view and the photos. So this entire experience is just 5/5 We booked through TripAdvisor. This is 100% recommend, since this is also at open ocean, it's easier if you can swim and not afraid of the waters. They do offer life jackets and self blown floatation vests, your choice. Must do!!!!! See you next time!

The museum captures the military contributions of Hawaii through history. The building was formally Battery Randolph, built 1911 to house two large guns to protect Honolulu from water attack. The structure is "military structural" in style, and is said to be typical of Taft era construction. The facility was, unfortunately, ineffective at protecting the Island for the air attack on Pearl Harbor and was later deemed unsuitable for modern warfare and decommissioned. Today, the building is a perfect backdrop to tell the story of the US Army and Hawaii. I signed in when I entered and then was free to move about the museum. The museum starts with a description of Battery Randolph and then moves chronologically with artifacts and stories from early Hawaiian warriors up to modern day US war participation. It was interesting to walk through the rooms and tunnels. Be sure to visit the second floor where Hawaiian service people are recognized and see the helicopter and gun up close. Then follow the tunnel back to the front of the museum. A gift shop offers reasonably priced military themed hats, shirts, Legos, books and much more. Plan about two hours to visit. The facility does provide restroom access for guest. The Museum is walkable from any hotel in Waikiki. The facility is accessible though some floors are uneven.

The museum contains historical artefacts and information from the 1700s to there latest addition being a 2008 US Army military uniform. The museum displays the progression in military equipment and tactics. Overall is a must have for experiencing the progression of warfare. There is a gift shop in the front of the museum, which contains COBI tank models (a Polish toy company, all bricks made in Poland, bricks are better quality than official LEGO all bricks printed no stickers) , hoodies, tee shirts, hats, mugs, bottles, military themed pencil sharpeners, posters, etc. All items are somewhat reasonably priced, only small markup. Overall a great collection of artefacts and a well set up gift shop. A must have for anyone visiting Hawaii, especially those on a budget.

We popped by ʻIolani Palace on a Saturday, fully unaware that they close at 4:00 PM. And yes, we just missed them. Pain. Tragedy. A royal-level fumble. We had wandered over after visiting the statue of King Kamehameha I across the street, so at least the vibe was still immaculate. Even from the outside, the palace is stunning, grand, elegant, and carrying that quiet weight of history that makes you instinctively lower your voice a little. Shoutout to Nadine C. for dropping the knowledge that this is the only royal palace in the United States. Let that sink in. Not a mansion. Not a "former estate." A palace palace. A little context moment because it makes standing there hit different: This was the royal residence of Hawaiian monarchs starting with Kamehameha III in 1845, and later home to Queen Liliʻuokalani, who was ultimately overthrown and even imprisoned here in 1893. It's also the second palace built on this site, which somehow makes it feel even more layered, like history stacked on history. Today, it's a designated National Historic Landmark and honestly? I'm a little mad at myself for not planning better because I know the inside tour is going to be incredible. Guess I'll just have to come back and do it properly. Next time, we check the website and respect the hours. Lesson learned.
