Wow, a really nice view of the Waikīkī and perhaps Honolulu areas. Yes as other reviewers mention…read morethe road is a bit windy to get here but it's pretty worth it and in all honesty it's not that bad of a drive. It's about 20 mins north from the main Waikīkī area. When you drive up, there may be a parking attendant that tells you to pay 7$ (unless you have a Hawai'i license/ID). I don't think it's heavily enforced (for example if the attendant goes on break, you may be able to drive right by and they probably won't know but I guess that's luck) in any case there's signs also recommending you pay 7$ to park. You have two options here in terms of parking. The first spot will tell you on Google Maps that it's 6min to the farthest spot. There's more parking here and shaded picnic areas to enjoy the view off in the distance. From here you can keep driving or you can walk there, it's just a short walk over a small hill (6min is an overestimate IMO). There is a small shaded area but this area is mostly exposed to sun and the elements. However it offers the best and mostly unobstructed views of the city and diamond head. In any case this is a nice alternate to diamond head as the hiking/walking is kept to a minimum. Highly recommend if you can make the trip

If you're unable to make it to Diamondhead, this is the perfect alternative for a view of Waikiki…read more Plus, it's completely free, requires no hiking and is not packed with visitors (at least when we went). I couldn't ask for anything more! The route to get here involves some narrow roads and a few sharp turns through a residential area, but it is manageable. Located within the Puu Ualakaa State Park, you can drive straight to the lookout point and park in the adjacent parking lot. We arrived at noon and there were a couple spots left, however it didn't seem like people spent much time here, so cars were constantly arriving and leaving. We marveled at the view and snapped a few photos before heading out after about 30 minutes. From the lookout, you get a stunning view of the city with Diamondhead in the distance. Informational plaques on the platform provide a history of the area and there is also a small shaded space, which I greatly appreciated. With the increased elevation, you can definitely feel the sun right on your skin so be sure to slather on some sunscreen! Although you will not get as clear of a view of the ocean from here (as opposed to at Diamondhead), this lookout point is a prime example of low effort, high reward!

The trolley picks you back up in an hour. This was so convenient for us as in past years we had to find parking and then walk to the grounds. This will be ab annual tradition for the Ohana and friends! I highly recommend it.

The only thing that would have been better was having a longer time to stop and walk around city hall since there were so many things to look at! The wreath contest alone took quite a bit of time! Then there were all of the department Christmas trees, and we didn't even have time for the outdoor decorations before hopping back on! Our driver was very nice and we made sure to remember to tip him since my husband is also a CDL driver!

I found him through TripAdvisor when I was seaching for a private circle tour. We were a group of two, and I wanted something small, custom and personal, over an impersonal group tour. If you are looking for the same, Dan is your man. Booking through the external sites is easy, but I recommend calling Dan and booking through him directly. He is polite and prompt in his service. He has a fleet of three vehicles: two jeeps and a van. We took a tour in one of his Jeeps. We scheduled a pickup at our Waikiki Beach hotel the day before. He picked us up promptly at 7am for our tour on the scheduled day. He was very professional, fun and a great conversationalist. He took us to some very beautiful spots of places with names I have trouble pronouncing. He will point out the spots of simple beauty, but also take you to places you never knew you needed to visit. Every place he goes, he has a story or experience there. He seems to know everyone, which makes your tour very efficient. He also adjusts your tour's pace to you, and you will never feel rushed. Some of the lookouts and beaches were so breathtaking. The Pipeline Beach area is a must. You would think places like that do not exist, but WOW. Even if you are not a surf fan, you will appreciate a stop there. The restaurants he takes you to are great! We stopped at Fumi's and Aoki's and I was impressed by both. The shopping area we went to on the North Shore was nice. Lots of photo ops, and Dan will even show you some filming locations from movies and tv shows. We got lucky and even saw quite a few whales during our tour! Overall, this is probably one of the best private tours I have been on in all my years of traveling. Dan knows his stuff, and we were super happy with our experience. Customer service, excellent. Driving, excellent. Tour stops, excellent. And Dan, excellent. Thank you, Dan!

Also he did a awesome job of staying ahead of other groups so basically at all our stops we where the only ones around. I will recommend this tour group for anyone visiting and I have friends coming soon who I recommend to you. Wish you nothing but the best and hope to see you again. If you are planning on going to the north shore book through this guy and save your self the headaches he knows his stuff. Mahalo my friend.
