Tweedows variety, now known as "lake side" is absolutely trash now. We loved it when it was known as tweedows. but now with the new owner, and new employees (in which, most employees that have been hired lately, haven't been able to keep the job position due to poor management, unstable hours, unsanitary work conditions, poor moral, and for lack of better words- most of them are immature.) and all the unsettling issues i can visibly see within a 5-10minute stay, it's just not the place to go. which is sad because Ashburnham is such a small town; and there isn't much on that particular side of town either. the high tax paying residents deserve better. Their signature pizza dough went out the door with tweedows. now the food is bought frozen from market basket, and they still call it "fresh". But never mind that because the worst part of the kitchen is that its utterly filthy. I got the chance to peek behind the counter and there is sludge and bacteria colonies building up everywhere, disgusting. no wonder why the third time i went in and ordered food since the new ownership, we got food poisoning. I wish I would have seen the back before i ever ate there. both the pizza side and the market side can't keep up with their named hours, which is disappointing and unprofessional. It's pretty bad when the manager can't do math correctly never mind show up on time. Each of the employees who closed have mentioned short draws and trying to show the manager, but the manager apparently "knows how to balance draws" which is a bad attitude for someone who clearly can't. The current manager also brings his bird in during store hours which is disgusting too, that's a place of business and food there should not be animals pooping on the floor. and then the manager didn't even spray the area with any type of disinfectant or cleaner when his bird pooped. just wiped it with a paper towel and thought that was good enough, eww. speaking of employees they are always understaffed. and the employees that have been able to stay can't even keep their shifts. always call outs. a single employee in any business shouldn't be able to show up when they want every day or just take a day off every week when they feel like it. there should be a standard held. and then the couple good employees they did have got fired, because the younger kids can't stop the drama. and it got taken out poorly on the wrong people. it's a disgrace that if a younger persons can't take direct boundary talk or have someone simply suggest that hey this could better the business without dispute from the younger person. or the younger person then gossiping like its middle school to the other employees when there's in issue. what happen to respect and dignity and maturity. the health department should take a walk in there as well as the labor division seeing as the employees' who do work overtime aren't even being compensated correctly. All in all, this place needs some work, better management and clearly new owners. If an owner lets all this happen under his wing, then its only time before it gets shut down or sued. the whole place needs a reality check on how a business should be run. its only a matter of time...... read more

Great shop in west ashburnham. If you don't want to commute far to a big grocery chain or convenience store this is where you could pick up some fishing materials, fire wood, candles, alcohol, small groceries suck as eggs, milk etc. The only tip to give is to check the date on some products. The pizza place connected is a option but, I was informed it's not a good food option. I have not tried it. The workers were friendly and the place is well organized. It's worth stopping in if you don't want to shop in a town over for a few things. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. We got a steak bomb and a steak and cheese. Bit were jam-packed and tasty. The service was great and very personable. They've got subs, soup and pizzas plus some appetizers. Will definitely go again. The variety store has beer, wine, booze (rum, vodka, gin) and the regular staples for a convenience store. I have to say, I used to love Tweedo's pizza and for the first time I hated it. There is a new girl working there, but there was absolutely no crust to my pizza, it was hard and thin like cardboard and very crunchy/overcooked. I'm very disappointed in the money I spent for pizza to not even want to eat it. read more

I love near Tweedo's so not only is it convenient, they have what I need and great food - and ice cream and mini golf in the summer!

Tweedo's is our go-to pizza, sub and convenience store. Our regular weekly pizza from there is always fresh, packed with ingredients, and mouth-watering. The seasonal ice cream and mini-golf are a bonus in the summer months, and the year round convenience store meets our basic quick stop needs. so today i tried to help a local business, could have went to the 99 or olive garden. just got back from picking up 50$ worth of food at TWEEDOS -whenever i call them they always question how or WHY we would like extra hot sauce on the buffalo sub, idk why but they always do, sometimes they make me feel stupid for asking i always try to be polite but every thing i asked for today they questioned. whether it was mayonnaise instead of tomato sauce or whatever it was i have always felt very questioned for my orders. while i was in there grabbing some things they STRAIGHT UP talked about "how rude" and "nasty" i was to them, one of the women "cut me some slack" because i'm pregnant. pregnant or not i wasn't rude! i'm a bartender so i understand this business i even gave them a tip because i had NO idea they were talking about me while i was on the other side of the place. some other things they said with my sister right there and another customer waiting on his food "can't stand when people call in food and are rude and take over 20 minutes to order" "the owner has cancer and her husband is taking care of her so i'm basically the boss now". i understand that the owner is sick, i do. i get it, but to try to flex that you now own the place isn't professional. none of this was. maybe she was just having a bad day.. i get it, it's hot in there but come on if you know local businesses are struggling don't act this way, i know when i'm wrong and wanted to soooo badly go back in there and speak with her but my sister was so uncomfortable she just wanted to leave. so my question is i don't want to reach out to the owner now because she is sick and has better things to focus on but like what should i do? who do i contact? do i just stop supporting my local business? this isn't the owners fault so i really don't want to stop going there and then to lose business. i'm honestly so upset and offended. read more

Tweedo's is now my go-to place when I bike through Ashburnham and am looking for a hefty sub sandwich to fuel my riding. There is a convenient outdoor porch with picnic tables under a roof (and there is indoor seating as well). The place is not fancy, but it is clean, the people are friendly, the food is fresh, and portions are substantial. Tweedo's Variety store, adjacent, has a smallish convenience store selection that meets my needs as a biker. read more
