The sessions will take you through verbal and quant sections, essay sections, as well as give insight into how the tests are crafted and scored. They know these tests inside and out! This review is way overdue. After a 10yr absence from school, I felt uneasy about taking the quant portion of the GRE. I knew from my first phone consultation with Avi that he was the real deal. If you are trying to decide on a test prep tutor, look no further. I myself was in the same position you are now and something about Twainstein seemed right to me; it seemed like they cared, that there was more attention and commitment to students' success than at a Brand Name test prep company. I initially reached out to see about enrolling in Twainstein's GMAT prep class. When I heard back, I was asked to do a few practice tests to determine my baseline. Based on my results, Avi recommended that I work with him one-on-one instead of enrolling in the class; it would cost less and be more effective. I so appreciated this honesty and knew right then and there that I was making the right decision. My sessions with Avi were incredible. He was always prepared and knew exactly what I needed to work on. We would review and work on problems. I have plenty of great things to say, but the big takeaway here is that Avi helped me nail the test scores that ultimately got me into Columbia, probably the proudest achievement of my life. A little background: I graduated from college about 5 years ago and have been making a career transition for the last year or two. I knew that I wanted to attend a well-respected program in the field of politics and international affairs, but was skeptical that it was possible since I didn't have much relevant educational experience in the field. With that in mind, I knew that it all ultimately going to come down to my resume, recommendations, strong essays, and -- most relevant to this review ---- killer GRE scores. I am planning to enroll in a masters program at USC but I have been out of undergrad for 11 years and haven't taken a standardized test in 15! I definitely knew I needed to enroll in a prep class, and after a conversation with Avi, I knew this was the right one. Working with Twainstein for GMAT prep was one of the more academically satisfactory experiences of my life. I had been out of school for three years before deciding that I was interested in going back to get my MBA, and I had begun prepping on my own. Talk about culture shock. I bought the books, I was taking tests and it was going alright. I figured it was going to be a looooong journey. Luckily, though, my brother was finishing up his undergrad at Pepperdine and Twainstein was working through his school for GMAT Prep. When he ACED his GMAT (seriously, he aced it,) I realized that in favor of "working smart," I needed to amp up my prep. Through my brother's referral, I began working with Twainstein. Avi, my tutor, was able to work with me & my schedule as I was working full time. Twainstein is two things: 1) training for the three sections of the GMAT and 2) most importantly, strategizing with your specific skill set. The strategy I learned was one of the contributing factors to my ultimate "acing" of the GMAT. The practice tests were truly relevant (I had taken so many before that were either way too easy or way too hard) and Avi made me feel at ease with the content. He helped me strategize and identify the questions to power through, the questions to skip, and the questions I previously had overlooked that were "in the bag." To say I would not have succeeded taking my GRE without Twainstein would be quite the understatement. Their emphasis on strategy is rather extraordinary. Their curriculum has been crafted by professionals with years of experience and practice. I was scared that the strategy emphasis would take away from content but this was not the case at all. They cover everything you will need to answer any questions found on the GRE both for Verbal and Quantitative (the scarier part), but also for the essays. It is an absolutely AMAZING course and would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone considering taking the GRE for grad school applications. Personally, my plan was to raise my quantitative score from 152 to 157 in three weeks (I was not sure if I can do it) and then continue to raise the score to 161 one month later. But, what happened was very helpful for me; I got 159 after the first three weeks instead of 157, and I got my acceptance from USC, and I didn't have to wait for one more semester to apply again. So, you don't have to study more to hit your GRE goal, but you do have to study 'smart.' By having experts (Twainstein) guiding you what to study and how to think about GRE's tricks, you are studying smartly. Unlike most of the other reviewers, I have actually never worked with Avi on my GMAT prep. While I am certain it is quite stellar, my review is actually for the Admission Consulting Twainstein offers. After the submission of my application for round 3 of USC Marshall School of Business fulltime MBA program, I had realized a shocking truth! My actual GPA was nowhere as high as I thought! As a matter of fact it was even much lower than the school's median admission GPA (the fact I only took one math class in college didn't help either). While prepping to improve my GMAT score one more time (which I proceeded in scoring my career low), I was pleasantly surprised to receive an interview invitation, but also nervous as hell at the same time. You can probably tell why. "what if they ask me about my low gpa?", "what if they ask about my decent but below median GMAT score?" "what if they ask me about the last GMAT I just took" "what if..." I really wanted to not fail this interview and was in hyper-stress mode. After seeing all the positive reviews, I decided to hit up Twainstein to see if they would offer something that is just Interview Prep, which they did. Honestly, at the time when Avi told me he had a lot of experience working with Marshall admissions, part of me just thought "this guy is bullshitting me with all the marketing schemes"... But after spending 20 min on the phone giving me lots of useful tips and insights on the interviews, I felt immediately this guy knows what he's talking about, and couldn't hurt to give him a try. And I am more than happy with that decision! Avi really does know these interviews inside out! What they may or may not ask based on your background was all as he predicted. However, he does over prepare you since you never know what could happen, so his mock interviews will be quite tough (thats a good thing!). I met with Avi everyday doing either mock interviews or analysis sessions. The feedback and strategies were on point, and by doing the homework he assigns, you can really see your own transformation and confidence boost. More importantly, he really takes the time to make sure that you ARE ready for that big day! When I did the actual interview, it felt so easy to the point I started doubting whether I even needed this interview prep. Don't get me wrong, looking back I would most definitely been a lot more nervous if it had not been Avi's help, hell I would have probably bombed the interview in the process. I have to mention here that what I am most impressed with this prep is the fact that Avi taught me to really understand the interview not as just answering a bunch of questions, but more like a way to utilize every questions fired at you as an opportunity to deliver your centralized stories and talking points. And this gives me a mentality that is not only useful for this admission interview, but for all future interviews in my career (and I know I ll do a lot of that in B School). There are not enough positive things I can say about Avi and Twainstein, and if you are on the fence on whether or not to join this program, do it. When I started the course, my goal was to achieve a GRE score high enough for a top 20 MBA program. At the time, that felt like a stretch goal for me. With Avi's extremely effective course and expert guidance, I was able to blow that goal away and achieved a score high enough for a top 10 program (something that seemed very out of reach for me). More than just a clever name! After hearing horror stories about other test prep companies, I decided to check these guys out. Right out of the gate I felt different and lowered my guard and increased my vivacity. No guilting me to sign up for packages or making me feel like if I don't get tutoring I will FAIL the GRE (and my life). Everyone I spoke to on the phone was supportive and helpful, offering me resources to assess where I'm at and diagnostic tools for self-assessment before they spoke about their own courses and tutoring. Smooth operators! I opted for the private tutoring since I am a good one-on-one learner and crave the individual attention(?) Word of caution: this company ain't cheap. In fact, they are pricey but it is just that test prep tutoring is expensive across the board. Trust me, I did the research. No regrets, no complaints. My tutor, Andrew was an absolute master, plus I felt like he cared too, which is so huge because I am starving for friendship. I'm not one to usually write reviews but reading the reviews about Avi and Twainstein ultimately convinced me (and for good reason!) to pick their GRE prep course. I now see that it's my turn to write a genuine review and pay the favor forward. In short, choosing to work with Avi was the best decision!!! Avi is an amazing teacher and an awesome person with endless patience and kindness towards his students and goes above and beyond (even after the class was done) to make sure I achieved the score I was looking for. Entering Avi's class I was very insecure and embarrassed about my math (even about very basic stuff). Never did Avi ever embarrass, call me out, or laugh at me like other teachers had. Rather, he sought to get to know me and my learning style the best to see how best he could help me improve. This comfort in asking questions and requesting help was one of the biggest a reasons that my scores continuously improved leaps and bounds weekly. I cannot sing his praises enough and I STRONGLY encourage anyone debating between prep courses to GO WITH AVI. This is the sign you've been looking for!! The GRE obviously isn't fun but Avi is fully aware of that (and agrees) and does everything in his power to get you prepared as best as possible (while also staying realistic with his students and being accommodating and flexible of their needs and study schedules). Additionally, after having several years of experience in the trade, Avi knew and was very clear and focused on what will be on the test and what we need to know, always making sure that we weren't learning things for no reason but rather learning how to finish the test successfully and not learning random math just for the sake of it. Avi keeps the class sizes small and gave us each very individualized attention and help. He was also kind enough to always stay after class and answer questions and also to email me to check-in on how my studies were progressing even after the class had ended. As another plus, Avi's office is really centrally located, clean, and comfortable and there's always a lot of free parking right outside the office. I was lucky to work with Avi who is teacher who consistently showed me so much care, flexibility, and kindness and did truly everything in his power (and more) to accommodate and help me especially when I needed extra help or had a difficult study schedule. There's really no reason to ever study with anyone else. Avi and the whole Twainstein company are truly the best and I'm so grateful to have had to chance to work with Avi on my GRE!! I signed up for private one-on-one tutoring for my GRE. Avi was extremely receptive and responsive to my needs. He followed up multiple times and made sure I was satisfied with my services. Andrew was my tutor. I highly recommend him! He was extremely efficient and knowledgeable. He set a plan for us and we accomplished it every week.
