In search of suits for my grooms-party, we tried Tux and tails as it was down the road from my soon-to-be sister-in-law's.
On first occasion we (myself, fiancée and father-in-law) went in to view their range of suits. Having visited a number of places during the day without much luck, it was nice to be offered a cup of coffee and a sit down.
Looking for a grey suit, I tried on a traditional suit for fit, and a slightly too large grey suit for colour. I was impressed with the service we received, and decided that although they weren't the cheapest (by some margin), we'd go with them.
A few months later my grooms-party travelled back up to Bristol (from Exeter) for a "suit fitting". What actually happened is that we all had our measurements taken, but none of us tried on a suit.
My best man is a rather tall chap (6 foot 7) and has experienced difficulty finding shirts that fit him in length, but he was assured that the shirt would fit him. They even said that if he had trouble in future, as they were tailors, they could get shirts and suits to fit him quite easily.
The suits were collected on the Wednesday (2 days before the wedding) and brought down to Exmouth on the Thursday. We all tried on the suits, and shockingly the best-man's suit was too short in length.
I phoned Tux and Tails, and spoke to a different chap, who said he would do his best to get us a shirt in time for the wedding (no additional cost was mentioned). The shirt was sent overnight and arrived in time for the wedding.
All went smoothly, and we went on our honeymoon.
On my return, I was informed that I would be charged an additional £20 for the shirt that was sent down!!
It wasn't so much the fee, more that there had been absolutely no mention of it prior to it being sent down.
As we had a number of guests coming to the wedding from Bristol, any one of them could have picked it up and brought it with them.
It is also annoying that we were assured that the best man's shirt would fit, "as they were tailors" and were used to this sort of thing.
Overall, the service was good before we'd handed over any money, but once we'd paid, the "fitting" wasn't great and the additional charge that was for something that was their mistake in the first place was unacceptable. read more
