My heart did a little jump when I found that they did indeed have a size 8! But it fell right down to my feet when I saw they had it priced more more than double the FC sale price! I asked the shop assistant if perhaps it hadn't been marked down again yet but she informed me in a kind of 'how-many-more-times-do-I-have-to-go-through-this' kind of way that although they stocked FC lines, they do not have to mirror their prices. I was quite disappointed! Generally speaking, the ladies things are very nice but very expensive. But then, that's Clifton; in the changing room I overheard someone trying a dress on for her upcoming trip down the red carpet at the BRITS or BAFTAS or something like that! I think the men's section might be a bit better though.

Filled with cute floaty dresses, feminine shoes and floral accessories this shop is strictly for girlie girls. With a handful of hippy tossed in with a dollop of trendiness - Pink Lemons stock a variety of brands from French Connection to Numph. My favourite part of the shop is, inevitably, their sales rail which is full of hidden gems at up to 50% off - which is a blessing, as the prices would be out of my budget otherwise.

But I thought it was worth mentioning how much they all loved it. They have a great range of light summery dresses made with beautiful fabrics and patterns. My knowledge of dresses is somewhat limited by they had a huge collection of different styles and lengths. They also had amazing price tags attached, with some reading £10! I actually did wish they had such a great range of men's clothes, but alas we only had a choice of 'comedy' T-shirts that were not almost as classy or elegant as the woman's choices. I honestly believe any woman who had a look at some of the clothes at Newflower would find something they would really love, especially for the summer. They had a beautiful range of mini skirts...I thought about how they would look on me, but I think my bits might be visible, only slightly though. The fashion seems to range from 1930s up to the 1970s and beyond. They also had a good selection of flip flops and sandals.

Nothing is of the highest quality, but if you're someone who likes to have lots of cheaper things rather than a few expensive things, then Apricot is a good shop to choose. Lovely cotton dresses, tops and shirts, drapy cardigans, each no more than £25. This is the sort of shop that has quick turnover of stock so you don't feel you're buying the top that everyone else is buying at the moment, which can happen with some of the bigger high street shops. Perching on the corner of Cabot Circus, Apricot feels like the shabbier cousin or younger sister of the big, expensive shops in the new development.

Unlike some of the other non-chain stores in Broadmead Apricot has been designed well and the presentation of the store is welcoming and the window displays really do draw you in. On walking into the shop I was not amazed by the service, that is not to say I was disappointed, the shop assistants were amicable and provided a decent service but nothing extraordinary. However, the products and the feel of the store were a very pleasant surprise. The clothes are on trend but different enough to distinguish Apricot from Primark or Topshop. Lots of pretty prints and well placed frills, and the dress that my girlfriend 'just had to buy'; 'just off white with fantastic black piping shoulder details!' Apparently (I have no idea what that means). I was immediately struck by the prices- for the quality there are very cheap - I am definitely heading back as there are many bargains to be had.

If short-short dresses with feminine designs, over-sized beaded necklaces and thigh-high socks with pretty bows sewed into them is your cup of tea you will love it here. The clothes are quite pricey but are of high quality. Yumi sell their lines to lots of different shops and market stools so you're likely to see their designs crop up all over the place, which means you're also likely to see them worn on other trendy girls. The shop assistants seem very shy - so shy that when I asked how much one of the necklaces was she almost froze with stage fright. There are more exciting places to spend your hard earned money in Clifton. Just pop along to Joy just a couple of doors down.

They sell trinket-like gifts, notepads, purses, handbags and chunky beaded jewellery - and also have a children's clothing range. Some of the clothes are a bit too elaborate and over-decorated for my liking, with too many bows and frills going on, and their t-shirts cost nearly £30 a piece. That said, I have found a few long vests and dresses I quite like in here, and I'll certainly have a look in each time I pass to see what's new in stock. You can tell that they are worth more by the detail and quaility of the material they use. It's actually quite a large store (it goes back much further than you'd expect) so they do have a good range of clothes. I also like the fact that they keep the shop really clean and tidy, and there is always an item of every size. I dropped a few stars because window shopping just isn't the same as real shopping.

Named after David Reiss and originally a men's tailor in London, the shop has grown to cover various countries across the UK whilst retaining an air of independence in each store. In the Park Street branch of Bristol they are very focussed on the customer service side of things, delivering a more exclusive shopping experience. The shopper is accompanied by second to none styling and tailoring advice through a more luxury, high end store. First it was buying, then shopping, now accompanied shopping. Will the reprogramming stop before I make it to the pub?

Unless you have a spare £100 in your pocket I would suggest walking straight past as they have some really lovely dresses and cardi's in here. Obviously they have more than that, but those two items are my failing point. I also really like the lighting in there. It's dark, moody and kind of romantic. And most importantly they have well positioned lights so you can actually see what you are holding (those who have visited the new Hollister at Cabot will understand this point).

The store is usually quite quiet; you can step away from the bustle of the street into a calm environment. The clothes here are really well made and certainly pricey (a mere scarf costs between £30 and £40), but definitely worth the investment. I particularly favour the accessories range, I dream of being able to afford the shoes, but for now I'll just treat myself occaisionally to the odd pair of luxury tights.

They actually have Goth gear with real character, almost funky, fun Goth fashion. And my favourite the American 50s chic short sleeved shirts with pictures of cars or skeletons playing guitars on (you have to see the shirts to appreciate their magnificence). But some of the dresses were literally a real slice of 50s Americana, some even had a Latin twist, with one dress depicting a 50s couple in a comic strip. They were some seriously cool clothes. I would recommend a trip down to this branch of Shrinking Violet to anyone with an eye for fun, chic or with an original style that they would like to add to with some stylish new clobber.
