Pink Lemons is a quirky name for a shop that stocks individualistic clothing that's a little more staid than you'd expect from the branding. Having said that, they do carry some really fun lines that you won't find anywhere else in Bristol. Probably the most upmarket clothing shop on Gloucester Road, it has the price tag to match. If Make is cornering the student niche in this area, Pink Lemons is going for the yummy-mummy market. I like a lot of the stock in this shop, but some of it leaves me cold. The accessories tend to be more imaginative than the garments on sale. Considering the price tag, I usually think longer and harder before making my way to the till, but the quality of the clothing is generally excellent, and everything I've bought there has tended to last well beyond the season. Not being particularly fashion conscious, preferring to wear what I look good in, rather than trying to scoop myself into skinny jeans, this is an important consideration, and ultimately offers me real value for money. This coupled with my desire to avoid high street mediocrity, Pink Lemons is an essential destination if I need to buy something new.

Walking into Pink Lemons, I was at at first quite disinterested at the clothes. They seemed rather generic and it wasn't until I took a closer look that I began slowly really liking what was on the rails. They had a variety of brands; some of them I've heard of and some I haven't, and they were all very floaty, lacy, pretty clothes. The downside though, is the price!! A top averaged at about £38, dresses £45, and that was on the sale rail! Perhaps those prices are normal for those who would shell out that kind of money for a dress (like you Topshop shoppers), but for Gloucester Road, it certainly is pricey. There was a bargain box that was on the floor with defected clothes jumbled up, but even those averaged at £15! To me, £15 for a defected piece of clothing is a right rip off. The upside is that if you can afford paying that much for clothes, then you're guaranteed a good selection here, and there is also a very comfortable couch to sit on to ponder how much lighter your wallet will be after you walk out of here.

I covet some of the clothes in here. Some really cute vintage-esque blouses and frilly floaty dresses. I love a bargain but the sale items here show blouses reduced from £44 to £40, not quite the bargain I am after, and I just can't bring myself to pay £40 for a blouse. The dresses are also a bit on the pricey side for a casual dress, if I'm paying over £50 for an outfit, it has to be a perfect item, a timeless piece I will wear again and again. If the dresses I liked were a tad cheaper, I'm sure I'd own more clothes from here.

I went to this shop because of Melanie M's review but it really wasn't to my taste. It stocks clothes from French Connection and Great Plains, which are the dull sections of Debenhams. Would be OK to go if you need a little black dress or sensible blouses but nothing with any character is in here. The shoes and boots were a little more promising but I won't be going in again.

Nothing is of the highest quality, but if you're someone who likes to have lots of cheaper things rather than a few expensive things, then Apricot is a good shop to choose. Lovely cotton dresses, tops and shirts, drapy cardigans, each no more than £25. This is the sort of shop that has quick turnover of stock so you don't feel you're buying the top that everyone else is buying at the moment, which can happen with some of the bigger high street shops. Perching on the corner of Cabot Circus, Apricot feels like the shabbier cousin or younger sister of the big, expensive shops in the new development.

Unlike some of the other non-chain stores in Broadmead Apricot has been designed well and the presentation of the store is welcoming and the window displays really do draw you in. On walking into the shop I was not amazed by the service, that is not to say I was disappointed, the shop assistants were amicable and provided a decent service but nothing extraordinary. However, the products and the feel of the store were a very pleasant surprise. The clothes are on trend but different enough to distinguish Apricot from Primark or Topshop. Lots of pretty prints and well placed frills, and the dress that my girlfriend 'just had to buy'; 'just off white with fantastic black piping shoulder details!' Apparently (I have no idea what that means). I was immediately struck by the prices- for the quality there are very cheap - I am definitely heading back as there are many bargains to be had.

If short-short dresses with feminine designs, over-sized beaded necklaces and thigh-high socks with pretty bows sewed into them is your cup of tea you will love it here. The clothes are quite pricey but are of high quality. Yumi sell their lines to lots of different shops and market stools so you're likely to see their designs crop up all over the place, which means you're also likely to see them worn on other trendy girls. The shop assistants seem very shy - so shy that when I asked how much one of the necklaces was she almost froze with stage fright. They sell trinket-like gifts, notepads, purses, handbags and chunky beaded jewellery - and also have a children's clothing range. Some of the clothes are a bit too elaborate and over-decorated for my liking, with too many bows and frills going on, and their t-shirts cost nearly £30 a piece. That said, I have found a few long vests and dresses I quite like in here, and I'll certainly have a look in each time I pass to see what's new in stock. Located on the site of the old All Saints shop, it's certainly worth a look to see if the styles are your cup of tea.

It's actually quite a large store (it goes back much further than you'd expect) so they do have a good range of clothes. Fast forward a couple of years and a handful of long term relationships and I've been reprogrammed to take shopping as an experience. It is after all called shopping, not buying. If there was anywhere in Bristol that rams this idea home it is the internationally recognised Reiss. Named after David Reiss and originally a men's tailor in London, the shop has grown to cover various countries across the UK whilst retaining an air of independence in each store. In the Park Street branch of Bristol they are very focussed on the customer service side of things, delivering a more exclusive shopping experience. The shopper is accompanied by second to none styling and tailoring advice through a more luxury, high end store. First it was buying, then shopping, now accompanied shopping. Will the reprogramming stop before I make it to the pub?
