Given that Primark is as cheap as chips, there were always going to concerns about its ethics. But after revelations of illegal labour practices, use of child labour and poor working conditions I couldn't bring myself to go to Primark. The Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Primark has "significantly ramped up" ethical trading operations since the damaging documentary which showed young children sewing the beads and sequins onto cheap clothing. And so with that bit of news, I ended up finally checking out the new Primark, what a change to the old primark which was just hell. It is huge and clothes are well spaced out. I was here during the afternoon and there were still big queues. I rather go be trussed up and barbecued over a hot grill than go here on a Saturday! I ended up coming in to have a quick look and buy some tights and came out with silver hotpants and some fab sunglasses which were only £1 and which I have had loads of compliments on. Don't go into Primark to just look around or get one thing as you will come out loaded down with cheap goods. Primark, a guilty pleasure.

The sale rails are great and you can pick up jackets for £3, vest tops for £1 and even winter coats for a fiver.

Nothing is of the highest quality, but if you're someone who likes to have lots of cheaper things rather than a few expensive things, then Apricot is a good shop to choose. Lovely cotton dresses, tops and shirts, drapy cardigans, each no more than £25. This is the sort of shop that has quick turnover of stock so you don't feel you're buying the top that everyone else is buying at the moment, which can happen with some of the bigger high street shops. Perching on the corner of Cabot Circus, Apricot feels like the shabbier cousin or younger sister of the big, expensive shops in the new development.

Apricot has recently appeared on the edge of Broadmead as close to Cabot Circus as you can get. The…read morelocation definitely works in their favour, it looks more like part of Cabot Circus, the new shopping centre, rather than the out dated Broadmead. Unlike some of the other non-chain stores in Broadmead Apricot has been designed well and the presentation of the store is welcoming and the window displays really do draw you in. On walking into the shop I was not amazed by the service, that is not to say I was disappointed, the shop assistants were amicable and provided a decent service but nothing extraordinary. However, the products and the feel of the store were a very pleasant surprise. The clothes are on trend but different enough to distinguish Apricot from Primark or Topshop. Lots of pretty prints and well placed frills, and the dress that my girlfriend 'just had to buy'; 'just off white with fantastic black piping shoulder details!' Apparently (I have no idea what that means). I was immediately struck by the prices- for the quality there are very cheap - I am definitely heading back as there are many bargains to be had.

Seeing as Park Street has many…read moreclothing shops which are quite popular, every time I try to explain where Seven is, I draw blank looks. When I say, it's right next to The Woods, people usually nod and say 'Yeah, we know The Woods, but I didn't know there was anything next to it..' Well there is! A shop just bursting with flavour, style and individuality. The next time you're shopping up Park Street, or drinking at The Woods, keep your eye out for this graffiti laden shop and enter its grotto of awesome tees, caps, shoes and posters; some produced by the designers at Seven, others by independent Bristol designers and also a handpicked selection of other imports. This is just a really cool shop - small but everything in there is ace.

You access it by walking down the stairs from the front door into a small shop area. There's pretty cool music playing and a small selection of clothes which isn't too confusing to navigate. Check out the little suitcase of vintage items right by the stairs, definitely a few cool finds in there, all for £10, and above that there are some awesome trainers. If you're looking for a designer tee, they print their own, for RRP of £25 but you can find sale ones for as little a tenner. It's a very low-fi shop; they don't even have a till, but appreciate any custom they get and are really grateful and friendly.
