I got my eyes tested here about five years ago, got my new pair of glasses and have sat on them at regular intervals over the past five years. Every time I have taken the squashed and broken glasses back to them they have repaired them with no questions asked and no hassle; Just polite friendly service. They might not be the cheapest in town, with all of the people handing out discount flyers for other chains in this city, but I will certainly be getting my glasses from here in the future. They have recently had a makeover and are looking very slick indeed; they even offered to photograph my eyeballs (?) so I could see behind them. Definitely a Facebook profile photo if I ever take them up on their kind offer.

Came in for a refund but they refused as, again, the record of me buying them could not be found. Absolutely furious and disgusted. You'll be better off with the £1 primark glasses than anything from this place, they last significantly longer and less chance of getting completely scammed through utter incompetence.

However it turned out to have a great choice of glasses, not at all any dearer than those chains, with some big name designers if that matters to you plus their own range which is actually pretty funky. I picked up a pair of red rimmed glasses with leopard-print arms (rowr) plus got a pair of serious rock star shades half price. In fact there was so much choice I gave in and accepted the help of one of the staff, who did this thing where they take a shot of you wearing the different glasses, just using a simple webcam, and then put them up on screen all next to each other so you can compare. Sounds embarrassing? Yes it was. Sounds idiotic? Actually it isn't, because it turns out I was wearing glasses way to big for my head because I had some weird idea that I had a balloon head (distorted female self-image? Discuss.) and so ended up getting the aforementioned cute glasses which I wouldn't have thought I could get away with before. After care service was impeccable and always ever-so-friendly, and I get my contact lenses from them as well. One word of warning, don't ever try and visit their website, it takes forever to change pages, just give them a call.

They were also able to advise on style and steered us away from a more expensive style of glasses which didn't quite worked. They are not cheap, but the quality and care given with eye tests and contact lens appointments is brilliant - you dont feel like you are being rushed through and they dont pressurise you to have things you dont really want like many other of the more claain opticians do. They also will ring you up to remind you about appoinments and when things are ready for collection. Their client care is great also, and when the nose rests of my glasses last broke (of my own doing) they fixed it straight away and free of charge - what more could you ask for! I would recommend this optician over any other in Bristol, especially any of the chain stores.

The frames are very well selected and not necessarily expensive. Saw a couple of fabulous ones for less than £50. Very fine aesthetic. This shop is open during the week but only one Saturday per month and they leave a message on their answerphone to let you know which one that is. Friendly, helpful and with really, really good choice of frames. And much more trendy than anywhere else in town...even better than most in London and I've been picky with frames since the late 80's.

I've used this branch for many years, and each time the optician has seen me promptly, taken me through an assesment very clearly and dealt with things in a generally highly proffessional way. They have a wide range of glasses displayed on the ground floor of the shop, and the assistant will be happy to take you through each example that you like. The assessments take place on the first floor in a separate examination room. The service doesn't cost the world either, and you know that you're getting a good quality service for the price that you pay.

I've been getting a great deal on my contact lenses here for years and I honestly can't remember the last time the prices went up. I first came here on personal recommendation after one of those bigger, chain-style opticians, gave me the wrong prescription for lenses and when I went back a week later with blood red eyeballs, they told me it was all my fault! David Phillips discovered the error and my life with lenses has been pain free ever since. However, having been a job where I was paid a pittance and I could no longer get back to my old optician (who was so nice he would spread my payments for glasses etc to suit me), I decided to join the masses and sign up to Specsavers. This branch has recently opened after its predecessor in Union Street closed and the premises is brand-new and much bigger. In Union Street it was crammed into two separate outlets which were dingy and cramped. Sadly it being Specsavers and it being in the city centre, there is just too much footfall to mean you are treated like anything other than just another client but they do have fantastic deals. My glasses are normally really expensive because my lenses have to be ground down loads as I am so blind and Specsavers meant I could get two frames for the price of one which was a massive help. Their monthly contact lens scheme is also unbeatable value. But I do find there are way too many staff there to justify how long you often have to wait. It seems like a case of too many chefs. And I still maintain quality of service is not uppermost in their minds. But I guess it's the quantity of people they get through their doors that is their priority and they are obviously achieving that as it is always really busy.
