As well as the usual range of pharmaceuticals and nail clippers, you'll also find: an opticians, a food section, a skincare advisor, a suncare advisor, an instant photo booth, a photo development lab, a body mass index machine, a chlamydia screening service, cervical cancer vaccinations, flu vaccinations, a dermo-analyser unit, a hair retention programme and a full holiday section, complete with sunscreen, swimwear, sunglasses, hats - and most importantly - those tiny travel-sized versions of your favourite wash stuff, so that you don't have to lug that massive bottle of head and shoulders you keep in the bathroom all the way to Timbuktu. The other great thing about Boots is the advantage points system and the vouchers you often get for money off cosmetics and hair products. This Boots is also going a little more upmarket with department store type make up counters, Benefit, Max Factor and the high end Boots own brand cosmetic range, No.7 but for the more price conscious folk there's always the lower end No.17 and good ole Collection 2000.

However it turned out to have a great choice of glasses, not at all any dearer than those chains, with some big name designers if that matters to you plus their own range which is actually pretty funky. I picked up a pair of red rimmed glasses with leopard-print arms (rowr) plus got a pair of serious rock star shades half price. In fact there was so much choice I gave in and accepted the help of one of the staff, who did this thing where they take a shot of you wearing the different glasses, just using a simple webcam, and then put them up on screen all next to each other so you can compare. Sounds embarrassing? Yes it was. Sounds idiotic? Actually it isn't, because it turns out I was wearing glasses way to big for my head because I had some weird idea that I had a balloon head (distorted female self-image? Discuss.) and so ended up getting the aforementioned cute glasses which I wouldn't have thought I could get away with before. After care service was impeccable and always ever-so-friendly, and I get my contact lenses from them as well. One word of warning, don't ever try and visit their website, it takes forever to change pages, just give them a call.

The staff here were very helpful at advising on the cheapest possible options, spending time to calculate what would be the cheapest option based on deals on offer. They were also able to advise on style and steered us away from a more expensive style of glasses which didn't quite worked. Highly recommend if you are looking for new glasses or prescription glasses. The excellent service and upfront attitude would lure me back to this store.

They are not cheap, but the quality and care given with eye tests and contact lens appointments is brilliant - you dont feel like you are being rushed through and they dont pressurise you to have things you dont really want like many other of the more claain opticians do. They also will ring you up to remind you about appoinments and when things are ready for collection. Their client care is great also, and when the nose rests of my glasses last broke (of my own doing) they fixed it straight away and free of charge - what more could you ask for! I would recommend this optician over any other in Bristol, especially any of the chain stores.

The frames are very well selected and not necessarily expensive. Saw a couple of fabulous ones for less than £50. Very fine aesthetic. This shop is open during the week but only one Saturday per month and they leave a message on their answerphone to let you know which one that is. Friendly, helpful and with really, really good choice of frames. And much more trendy than anywhere else in town...even better than most in London and I've been picky with frames since the late 80's.

I've used this branch for many years, and each time the optician has seen me promptly, taken me through an assesment very clearly and dealt with things in a generally highly proffessional way. They have a wide range of glasses displayed on the ground floor of the shop, and the assistant will be happy to take you through each example that you like. The assessments take place on the first floor in a separate examination room. The service doesn't cost the world either, and you know that you're getting a good quality service for the price that you pay.

I first came here on personal recommendation after one of those bigger, chain-style opticians, gave me the wrong prescription for lenses and when I went back a week later with blood red eyeballs, they told me it was all my fault!
