Lovely walking area both during the day and beautiful at night with locals and visitors strolling, hanging and enjoying the ambience...especially on a beautiful Summer evening like the day we went - it happened to be F1 race weekend so Old Montreal was abuzz. We had just finished dinner close by and as usual were looking for a place to get a sweet treat to cap off the meal. Truth be told, we were heading for Dairy Queen and then saw Ben and Jerry's across the square and right smack dab in the middle of both of them on the square was this little gem of a place. All we needed to see was the Crème Glacée sign and that's all she wrote. It was late, around 10PM, but this place was open. So cute - all 4 sides of the shop. Ice cream, sorbet - many different tempting flavors. I had a small pistachio ice cream (see my pic) - AMAZINGLY DELISH, CREAMY AND PACKED WITH FLAVOR (and bits of pistachio). HIT THE SPOT PERFECTLY. We also bought a few gift items there - some maple tea, maple syrup and jams. As we enjoyed our dessert, we were entertained by a street performer: a beautifully costumed flamenco dancer, twirling, spinning and clicking her heels on her wooden platform "stage" to her lively, upbeat music. If you're in the area, skip Ben and Jerry's and DQ and stop in here! It's a treat!

There are random carts littered throughout with random items sold for shockingly low prices. As many other people have mentioned, there is a metric fuck ton of dried fish in the back. It doesn't smell as strongly as the rest of the comments say it does though haha The meat was pretty shit though and the avocados we bought sucked

Yes, it's grungy in there, and smells weird, and is full of salty people, but I was able to get bags of groceries that fed me for an entire week for about $10. Admittedly that was a while ago, and I was a vegetarian back then, and I weighed less than 100 lbs, but hey I lived to tell this story. I was back at Segal's this past week, for a stroll down memory lane, and with the exception of some new security cameras and TV screens, it's exactly how I remembered it. It's still poorly lit. The refrigerated sections still have those yellowing plastic curtains. The floors are still dirty and it still smelled weird. Prices are a bit higher, but I would say keeping with inflation. They stock a few more organic items now. The bulk items used to just be in open tubs (like at Bulk Barn, minus the coverings), but are now in plastic garbage/recycling bins, with lids, lol. The "scoops" are plastic water jugs that are tied to the bins. Most are cracked or broken. I found this amusing. This place has apparently been around since 1927. Maybe it's just nostalgia speaking, but I have a soft spot in my heart for its "this is who I am, warts and all, take it or leave it" attitude.

Date of visit: June 12, 2023…read more We really only came in here because there was a Starbucks inside the store, but ended up finding some local beer for a friend back home and spent some time browsing the other areas of the store as well. While a small store (thus the "Express"), it did have a variety of items and both the deli and bakery items looked quite good. We were not hungry, but it appears that you can do worse than these selections. Because of the small size of the store, sizes were limited in many categories, so this looks like the place that would be good for a quick stop, or a visit in-between visits to your normal grocery store that was much larger.

This is a mini grocery store located on the ground level of the Myriade high-rise apartment building in Ville-Marie. It's within convenient walking distance to many hotels, restaurants, bars, and the Place des Arts. There's a Cafe Starbucks inside. We stopped by this IGA Express on our walk home (Airbnb) from dinner downtown. We picked up a few cases of beer of the Canadian Boreale (Quebec) and Moosehead (New Brunswick) brands. The cases ranged in price from $13.99 to $19.89 each. Each case came with a $0.60 or $0.80 surcharge described on the receipt as "Depot Biere." Not sure exactly what those surcharges were for. We also had to pay the standard Quebec TPS (5%) and TVQ (9.975%) taxes. Total was $58.18 Canadian for three cases/packs. This store has both self-checkout kiosks and cashiers. Our cashier was Jawad and he did a good job. We were in and out in a matter of minutes. There was a security guard patrolling around inside. She kept a watchful eye on us and other customers. They have quite the beer selection as well as non-alcoholic beverages, small grocery items, packaged food products, and grab-and-go small meals and snacks. I liken this more to a convenience store than a grocery store.
