We visited Marche Jean Talon on a Monday morning during our Montreal-Quebec city summer vacation…read more From the variety of shops, to the quality of produce, it absolutely blew us away! Can't believe it's open all day every day; wish we had anything close to this in our neighborhood. Street parking was easy to find on a weekday morning, and the market was pretty quiet when we arrived just before 10 AM. We split a rocket, goat cheese, walnut panini on ciabatta, which was delicious. I also tried a few cheeses at the extensive cheese shop, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I could have spent hours at the marketing roaming, admiring all the vibrant, fresh produce, and watching local artists sketch and paint the floral section -- which is stunning. It was a great place to buy souvenirs and trip gifts from local vendors. If only we had time to come back to Marche Jean Talon multiple days on our trip. Highly recommend!

However, it's super touristy, which means prices are inflated and finding parking can be a literal nightmare. It's a cute place to visit on a sunny afternoon to grab a snack, but if you're just looking for cheap, quick groceries, you might want to look elsewhere.

Lovely walking area both during the day and beautiful at night with locals and visitors strolling, hanging and enjoying the ambience...especially on a beautiful Summer evening like the day we went - it happened to be F1 race weekend so Old Montreal was abuzz. We had just finished dinner close by and as usual were looking for a place to get a sweet treat to cap off the meal. Truth be told, we were heading for Dairy Queen and then saw Ben and Jerry's across the square and right smack dab in the middle of both of them on the square was this little gem of a place. All we needed to see was the Crème Glacée sign and that's all she wrote. It was late, around 10PM, but this place was open. So cute - all 4 sides of the shop. Ice cream, sorbet - many different tempting flavors. I had a small pistachio ice cream (see my pic) - AMAZINGLY DELISH, CREAMY AND PACKED WITH FLAVOR (and bits of pistachio). HIT THE SPOT PERFECTLY. We also bought a few gift items there - some maple tea, maple syrup and jams. As we enjoyed our dessert, we were entertained by a street performer: a beautifully costumed flamenco dancer, twirling, spinning and clicking her heels on her wooden platform "stage" to her lively, upbeat music. If you're in the area, skip Ben and Jerry's and DQ and stop in here! It's a treat!

I picked up some fresh produce and a baguette from a store which claimed to have Montreal's #1 baguette. I always love coming to the market. There's so much to see and shop for. I'd recommend coming hungry because there are some stalls in the centre serving full meals. Next time I'll have to go to the flower shop!

We got big green grapes that were quite pricey, nearly $20 USD but they were just grapes, they were more juicy though. There are also a few places to eat, we ended up at a bakery cafe at the end upstairs. They had different sandwiches and focaccia similar to a pizza type. They heat these up so it was perfect to eat right away. *Warning* There was a an issue of not being labeled nut and asking the worker if there was any and they said no but after confirming with the cook there was walnut in the bread. So I would be extra careful about that. Other than that they had foie gras for sale as well as many other places that had it as well. There were a few grocery stores and butcher shops so there is a lot to choose from if you are looking for different types. There were a few dessert places but the place isn't too big with more variety for grocery food items.
