This one is Montreal's and deservedly so as it covers over 30,000 square feet in the city's atmospheric Little Italy neighborhood. Quite easily, Jamie W and I took the 55 city bus to get here and were immediately taken by the abundant tables of fresh produce sourced directly from local regional farms (Photo 8). However, fruits and vegetables are far from the only goods sold here. There are also butchers, fishmongers, artisanal cheese shops, bakeries, spice merchants, and maple goods purveyors. Since we already filled up on bagels on the way over, we really didn't take advantage of the variety of dining options and open-air food stalls. Pretty much everything looked appetizing, especially the lobster toast and the Moroccan pastries (Photo 6), but we only had room to sip a couple of refreshing C$10.50 Mocktails Pina Colada (Photo 13). Expect to spend at least a couple of hours here. The plump, juicy strawberries, the ooey-gooey paninis, the sausage sandwiches ... I could go on. Selection: 10/10 Not only do you get variety but you get the best of the best. Service: 10/10 Everyone was super friendly. There's a ton of folks but the crowd and vendors were cordial and it felt like a community supporting each other.

The Long Version: My husband and I love Farmers' Markets, so while planning our trip to Laval, I marked Marché Public 440 as one of the places for us to check out. We went in May so the outdoors section was open. I doubt it's open year-round, like the indoors section. The outdoors section had lots of affordably priced fruits and vegetables. We ended up getting 5 containers of blackberries for $1 each. We also got 2 packs of baby cucumbers. Each pack had 6 cucumbers and they were $2 each or 2 packs for $3. The indoors section is significantly pricier, but they have gourmet items. They had expensive cuts of meats, gourmet cheeses and artisan chocolates. J'adore y acheter des cagettes entières pour faire des bocaux de légumes. A l'intérieur je vais à la poissonnerie, chez le boucher, la SAQ et la boulangerie et parfois aussi à la chocolaterie ou dans les boutiques de cadeaux. Vraiment pratique!

We got big green grapes that were quite pricey, nearly $20 USD but they were just grapes, they were more juicy though. There are also a few places to eat, we ended up at a bakery cafe at the end upstairs. They had different sandwiches and focaccia similar to a pizza type. They heat these up so it was perfect to eat right away. *Warning* There was a an issue of not being labeled nut and asking the worker if there was any and they said no but after confirming with the cook there was walnut in the bread. So I would be extra careful about that. Other than that they had foie gras for sale as well as many other places that had it as well. There were a few grocery stores and butcher shops so there is a lot to choose from if you are looking for different types. There were a few dessert places but the place isn't too big with more variety for grocery food items.

We were all happy with our choices but like I said we wanted a big meal which this place does not offer. More of a chill ambiance for drinks and snacks.
