Omg love love love this cute Canadian market (for souveniers) attached to the hotel!! It has a market shop and then in the back different food stations to sit and eat at. Try pizza from the pizza station, wine from the charcuterie bar, or soup and freshly sliced salami from the deli. The servers are so kind and helpful. Prices are very fair and food is super fresh. They offer brunch on the weekends too! Spend the afternoon eating small bites to include macarons with friends!

Kaos is a rich and indulgent chocolate mousse dessert. Perfect for sharing.

Located at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, southeast from Place Ville Marie, Marché Artisan is a gourmet market and high-end food court, combined. The space was well lit and combined a bright white interior with wood and stainless steel accents. There were several communal/ bar eating areas. At one entrance, there are tempting trays of flaky breakfast pastries and coffee options. Charcuterie, fresh juices, produce, maple syrup, artisanal pasta, aged olive oils, balsamic vinegars, and meats are also displayed throughout the market, to name a few. Shoppers can sample cheeses, enjoy a salumi tray, or watch the creation of marvelous chocolate truffles or desserts. As well, you can purchase aprons, kitchen towels, cutting boards and other kitchen items in this market. Throughout the market are areas to enjoy well-prepared meals. Originally, a friend and I tentatively planned to meet up for coffee and breakfast, but plans fell through. Okay, I was not interested waking up so early. I do that all too often for work and was not prepared to do so while on vacation. Instead, we dropped by for a mid-day snack, Kaos French pastry, espresso, and juice. The delectable dessert featured dark chocolate mousse, chocolate ganache, and pearls. Everyone was beyond helpful and pleasant. Be prepared, though, for the gourmet price points.

In my previous review, Marché Artisans was still in its running-in period and have improved greatly since, therefore the past rating is no longer justified. I now go very frequently to this place because at lunch time it offers a lot of very high quality dining options that you can have on spot or take-away. Being a woman of habit, I always take their orzo salad which is excellent with a pastry. All the pastries that I've tried so far were excellent! They also offer a catering service for events like during the Christmas festivities, last year I ordered their proposed Christmas dinner for my home everything was perfectly organized and well done, the food was really good, I did not regret my investment. The service has also improved significantly, they take great care of their customers and it shows, I highly recommend this place.

This very beautiful "marché" full of stunning pastries, delicate sweets, inspiring crafts, delicious cheese, meats and more opened fairly recently inside the Fairmount Queen Elizabeth hotel, probably much to the delight of their guests. It's a very fancy market - less of a Jean-Talon and more of a Holt Renfrew or Ogilvy. The place is luminous and welcoming, and is much bigger than one would expect looking from the outside. The different counters offer a huge diversity of goods. Near the entrance is the sweet stuff, with gorgeous cakes, tarts and other pastries. The chocolate Christmas trees look particularly pretty, and so do the candied fruits. Further in are jars, oils and other preserved goods, along with a section for Montreal- and Quebec-related souvenirs (local landmarks, maple syrup, etc.). Next is the fresh vegetable and fruit section, which is a bit disappointing. It's not in the Marché Artisans' strengths to sell produce, and I doubt that many people would go there just to buy a bit of kale or some jalapeno. The selection is small and pricey. A single Ataulfo mango is 3.49$, and a small pack of grapes (from California) costs 11.78$/kilo! They do have fresh chanterelle, which is nice, but the oyster mushrooms are again overpriced, and can be bought from the nearby Chinatown at less than half the cost. The ready-to-eat counter is at the very back, and offers a selection of sandwiches, sushi, fresh fruits, etc. Next to it is the meat counter with beautifully arranged, neatly bundled pork, veal and lamb roasts ready to enter the oven. Beside the counter, a temperature-controlled cabinet displays aged steaks and fois gras. A few steps further comes a sit-down area where you can order a nice delicatessen plate while chatting with friends. The whole place is a gold mine if you're looking for gifts for food-loving friends and family, but keep in mind that prices are on the high end. Note. The place had a strong smell of brown butter for some reason.

Can't believe it's open all day every day; wish we had anything close to this in our neighborhood. Street parking was easy to find on a weekday morning, and the market was pretty quiet when we arrived just before 10 AM. We split a rocket, goat cheese, walnut panini on ciabatta, which was delicious. I also tried a few cheeses at the extensive cheese shop, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I could have spent hours at the marketing roaming, admiring all the vibrant, fresh produce, and watching local artists sketch and paint the floral section -- which is stunning. It was a great place to buy souvenirs and trip gifts from local vendors. If only we had time to come back to Marche Jean Talon multiple days on our trip. Highly recommend!

We got big green grapes that were quite pricey, nearly $20 USD but they were just grapes, they were more juicy though. There are also a few places to eat, we ended up at a bakery cafe at the end upstairs. They had different sandwiches and focaccia similar to a pizza type. They heat these up so it was perfect to eat right away. *Warning* There was a an issue of not being labeled nut and asking the worker if there was any and they said no but after confirming with the cook there was walnut in the bread. So I would be extra careful about that. Other than that they had foie gras for sale as well as many other places that had it as well. There were a few grocery stores and butcher shops so there is a lot to choose from if you are looking for different types. There were a few dessert places but the place isn't too big with more variety for grocery food items.

You can visit their creamery, but I had a chance to visit their Jean-Talon Market location - the cheese with the green label refers to the milk of the animals grazing in the mountain pastures during the growing season; the label that has a snow-covered landscape refers that the milk is from the animals that were fed on hay during the winter months. All the cheeses are aged for 2-4 months in the creamery's underground cave and comes with a natural rind; pressed cheeses, blue vein cheeses, fresh, cheeses, brined cheeses, soft rind cheeses, and even other dairy products (such as yogurts, sheep's milk, and cream) are offered. I thought the cheeses were rich and creamy with a subtle hint of acidity from the sheep's milk - they're pretty delicious, and I'm sure you'll be able to find a version that you'll like! If you're in the market to purchase some sheep, they also have ewes and rams for sale (Canadian Livestock Records Corporation-registered); they also have woollen knit socks, comforters, pillows, berets, and even raw fleece for customized spinning/dye-ing. +fromagerie located in the Jean-Talon market +cow & ewe's milk semi-firm cheeses :D +located across the gelato place

Since arriving in Montréal, I've been on the hunt for some milk from grass-fed animals. Cows, goats, buffalo, sheep - just give me milk from some kind of ruminant that eats grass instead of grain. Thanks to La Moutonnière, I've found it. From professed 100% Happy Sheep, La Moutonnière makes and sells milk, butter, and several types of cultured cheeses and yogurts, all from grass-and-hay fed sheep on their farm in Quebec. I tried their dairy products for the first time this week and am very impressed. Of course it's a bit more expensive than your industrial Québon/Kraft Foods versions but you know what you're getting in this case. La Moutonnière also sells wool, soap, and very reasonably priced lamb meat (I'm guessing those particular lambs aren't 100% happy sheep). The staff are wonderful too - I asked for sheep butter today and was told they were out. About five minutes later, they sought me out in a completely different section of the market to let me know they'd located some butter for me. A great first impression. Find them at the southeast corner of the Marché Jean-Talon, just across from Qui Lait Cru.

Lovely walking area both during the day and beautiful at night with locals and visitors strolling, hanging and enjoying the ambience...especially on a beautiful Summer evening like the day we went - it happened to be F1 race weekend so Old Montreal was abuzz. We had just finished dinner close by and as usual were looking for a place to get a sweet treat to cap off the meal. Truth be told, we were heading for Dairy Queen and then saw Ben and Jerry's across the square and right smack dab in the middle of both of them on the square was this little gem of a place. All we needed to see was the Crème Glacée sign and that's all she wrote. It was late, around 10PM, but this place was open. So cute - all 4 sides of the shop. Ice cream, sorbet - many different tempting flavors. I had a small pistachio ice cream (see my pic) - AMAZINGLY DELISH, CREAMY AND PACKED WITH FLAVOR (and bits of pistachio). HIT THE SPOT PERFECTLY. We also bought a few gift items there - some maple tea, maple syrup and jams. As we enjoyed our dessert, we were entertained by a street performer: a beautifully costumed flamenco dancer, twirling, spinning and clicking her heels on her wooden platform "stage" to her lively, upbeat music. If you're in the area, skip Ben and Jerry's and DQ and stop in here! It's a treat!
