I don't think that I was ever here before the renovation, so I am not sure what the library looked like prior to that. For someone whose degree is in library studies, I don't really find most libraries to be somewhere that I would want to linger. This library is very open, laid out in clear, clean lines, with rows of shelves, desks, chairs and side rooms for studying or classes. Half of the library is dedicated to children's materials, and half for grown-ups, though the teen section is tucked into the back corner of the adult section. There is an outdoor seating area attached to the adult reading area, though lacking shade trees or umbrellas; there is a front patio to the right of the entrance which has those amenities. As noted by other Yelpers, it does have a traditionally quiet library atmosphere; this tends to make me a little nervous. If you are looking for somewhere to buckle down and study, this would be a good place to do that. read more

I'm a little stumped on how to rate this place. 4-stars: - free wifi (but a bit slow probably due to the large number of people) - new - lots of plugs for your laptop - good number of desktops for general public use...free - good magazine selection - meeting rooms - nice decor, bright, contemporary style - variety of areas to sit, work, or both. They have an outside patio. There are a number of tables, sofas, etc. depending on how you want to situate yourself. - bottomline, nice place if you're a free-loading citizen 3-stars: - they always have the airconditioner on way too low....brrrrrr - how much did they spend on this place????$$$$$???? - why are there even books here? there isn't that much room; there aren't that many books anyhow. Perhaps they should have really rethink what a "library" needs to be for citizens in the 21st century. Put in more computers, cut a deal with Google, magazine/publishing companies/etc. to bring the entire world's publication and its index for access. The library is mostly quiet, but once in a while shrieks from kids can be heard. I think they should add on a building section or a whole new bigger library to section off the kids. The same problem is at the other few libraries around the area. I wish there was a larger place, although the college libraries are nice, they are crowded, hard parking and close earlier than public libraries. read more

I love their newly remodeled building, it's SO MUCH BETTER than before, so much better! I come here almost everyday, their selection of books are getting wider and I really like the whole environment. The staffs are helpful, you will find what you are looking for in a second if you go to their info desk. They do turn on their AC pretty high during the summer, remember to bring a jacket because it gets very cold in there. read more

I was studying at a cafe near the area and needed to move to a quieter place to get stuff done. I found out about this place through Yelp, and it was nicer than I expected! It's not a very big library, but it's a good, quiet place with air conditioning. When I went, there were a lot of kids because the library was hosting some kind of event for kids. There's lots of outlets too! It's not the prettiest library I've been to, but it's fine considering I'm just there to study. Wish they would close past 5 pm.. but I understand not many public libraries do. read more

The library seems pretty run down with a limited selection in DVDs. It has an old library type of vibe so it was very appealing and it's pretty crowded in there. Their wifi is also very slow so better be a patient person if you want to use their connection. However, they have a lot of computers for you to use so that's the pro side. read more

This library has plenty of study tables and comfy reading chairs with electrical outlets conveniently in between. That alone makes this library awesome. The cherry on the top is the wifi service, which isn't shaky or weak. I also love that they have an extensive collection of California history books, many from Arcadia Press' Images of American series. The selection isn't biased towards OC, rather has a nice diversity based on region, ethnicity, and special interests. read more

I'm not from around here so I'm unable to check out books but I did hang around in the front. The front of the library has seating for those who like to read/study out doors. There are quite a few unsavory people there but it's really close to the police station so it's really safe. Love this library. Always available when I need it to study. What is great is the fact that when you go inside, you will notice that on the right side, it is focused on the kids section of books and entertainment. In the middle is the check out line including information desk. To the left is a few rows of computers and then further down the library book aisles are a mix of desks with adequate amount of plugs for your laptop or cellphone or anything else electronic. I love the Tustin Library, It's quaint, clean and has a very friendly environment. Parking is great, super easy, does not require a fee or ticket, its near Old Town Tustin, many shopping centers, Great for college students and children. There are tables that are level height for kids to do research and play on, and plenty of tables for college students/ adults to read and or study in the Quite Study Area. Bathrooms are very clean. They have lots of carts you can buy books and VHS videos for only 10 cents, which could be lots of fun for the tots. read more

This is a beautiful library! It's big, clean, and has lots of tables and rooms for studying or just reading. Did I mention how big and clean it is!? Some libraries I've been to stink, not this one! The people who come in to use to the library are ok. A lot of students, some douche bags, a few homeless, and a lot of people just wanting to find a good book to read. The staff has always been helpful! The librarian with the red hair extremely helpful! She is always so sweet and kind. So yah. Good library. My kids and I like it. :) read more

Nice to see this place reopened. NOTE: DON'T sit in the kids section if you're an adult and you don't have a kid. The staff will ask you to MOVE. It doesn't work the other way around though because I see kids in the adult section. Interesting. I've always found a seat wherever including the kids section in all the years I've been coming here and it's the first time I've ever been asked to move away if I don't have a kid. Whatever. Fix the Internet please! If you need Internet access don't bother coming here it comes to a grinding halt at the slightest amount of traffic load. This place has so much potential especially with the private study rooms but what can you do these days without Internet access? Sad. read more

This a good library. There are plenty of computers for internet use and plenty of places to study and read. The staff is very nice and helpful. There is a used bookstore with a good selection and reasonable prices. Some of the patrons are very rude though leaving their cell phones on ring and talking on them in the library. read more

Let me start by saying that this review is based on using the Tustin Library specifically for studying purposes. Literature buffs can stop reading here. I've spent many days at the Tustin Library, so many that I'm beginning to recognize the "regulars". This library does many things very well. For instance, air conditioning. Like a previous reviewer mentioned, bring a sweater or a jacket because this A/C works! Even during some of the busiest times, I have always found a place to sit with an accessible outlet for my laptop. WiFi is provided free to all users, but it is SLOW and you can forget about VPN access. If you are patient, it serves most internet research purposes, but if you are looking for photos or videos it can be pretty frustrating. Most of my studying involves internet access which is the primary reason I rated this library 3 stars. While this library does a good job at providing a quiet place of study, I have come across the occasional screaming kid (we can't muzzle them, can we?) or inconsiderate cellphone guy (we can't muzzle them, can we?). Not bad at all really. They also provide quiet rooms that are closed off from the hustle and bustle of the main library if peace and quiet are essential to your studying habits. Study rooms are also available at the Tustin Library and this is one really great benefit. You are required to have a library card and a minimum of 2 people present to be granted access, but it provides a great space to study (2hr max) in a sound-proof room. A word of warning. The librarians are notoriously rule-bound. Don't even think about sneaking in that caffeine jolt or sadness you call lunch. They will hunt you down and confiscate such paraphernalia with a passion. Deep down I think they derive a sense of joy out of it, but who can blame them? If I had to clean up after your mess, I'd be a rule enforcer too. read more

Honestly the best place in town to relax and get some work done, they have a good amount of tables and chairs all around and it is always maintained clean. Along with that the wifi is decent (due to everyone being on at the same time) and there are more then enough power outlets to keep you going. They have a great selection of books and great customer service whenever a question may arise. read more

Decent library. I prefer Orange library but it's farther for me now. The children's section is pretty weak here. There are no activities or puzzles for kids to use. Their selection of kids books is also a lot less than the Orange library too. I do like that you can borrow up to 50 books at a time though! It's a really beautiful facility that has computers available for all to use as well as study rooms and conference rooms. The children's section has a large room where the kids can read in or play quietly and there's even a teen room where teens can have their own space to read or hang out. They carry a large and amazing selection of books and this library is constantly offering interesting classes and events that are free to the public. I would definitely recommend checking out their monthly calendar. And if you're looking to purchase some used books they have a "store" within the library as well that makes it easy and affordable to buy books for younger children. read more

As a place of study, it offers quite a bit. Seating at tables is abundant and the chairs are padded and quite comfortable. There are sofa chairs inside as well as some sofa chairs outside with a view of the adjoining street. It doesn't get much traffic so it might be quiet. The atmosphere is quiet and even more so as you move to the wings of the building. It does get cold, so bring a sweater or light jacket... yes, even in the summer. The only gripe is the network here. Not sure about Wifi, though other reviewers have complained about it being slow but the desktop computers have really slow internet. A one minute youtube clip took 8 minutes to download. I have a 3 minute clip downloading at the moment and pray it will be here before my 38 minutes of time left are up. The library gets crowded after 4pm as should be expected with all the kids getting out of school. I had a terrible experience where some smokers all coalesced around me and stank up the place. If it was one, i would have stayed but it was a bunch of you and your smelly socks so I had to move. No offense but you all must have smoked in a car with the windows closed wearing last weeks socks. I couldn't believe it possible in any other scenario. But as i said, there's plenty of seating so I moved to another block of tables. The books don't seem to be abundant. But that could just be a misperception given the size of the library and its design. Its certainly bigger than the orange or Fullerton public libraries. I don't check out books hardly so I can't be of concern. When I have to check a book out, I'll come back and gripe about it. So before I study for the licensing exam I take a break now and again, and that usually constitutes watching videos. That's not possible here and while its a great place to study it could be a deal breaker for me. It is a bit of a trek as well. Maybe it a sign to not waste time... but for all its modernity, the connection is about as slow as a 56k modem. read more

Not a very pleasant library. The parking lot seems to always be full to the max (I'm guessing a lot of people use it for other businesses nearby). Definitely the noisiest library I've ever visited! Sounds of children screaming their heads off and running around. I asked one of the librarians about this and she said that they were doing their "Story-Time" thing, and that the community room they usually use was not available. However, this doesn't explain the other times I've been there when there were still screaming and running kids, totally unsupervised, and nobody at all interested in quieting them down. So if you're looking for a quiet place to study or do research, try a different branch. There are always long lines at the information desk because a lot of people seem to be too lazy to use the computer catalogues and ask the librarians to find every single book for them. The librarians will actually leave their desks and personally escort the patrons to the location while everyone else waits in line. This is pretty frustrating when you have a legitimate need to use the information desk. Overall, not a very well-managed library IMO. read more

The good parts have been mentioned..spacious, plenty of parking, decent hours. As have the sucky parts........horrid internet (usually, though seems to be faster some days than others - go figure). Way too many homeless bums. (Some of whom are enormous I might point out....we're talking 300 pounds. Some of the men are even larger. LOL..... How do "homeless" maintain such levels of obesity? ) In a saner age, and a saner country (say 30 or 40 years ago) the staff would give these bums the bum's rush, as it were. But their hands are tied, apparently, by insane ACLU-led court decisions. Either that or there is nothing to motivate them to do anything about it (Understand that I have found the only difference between nearly all OCPL librarians and DMV employees is that the OCPL folks know how to read.) In the end, probably a combination of both. They do have one rent-a-cop, whose job it is to stand around behind the reference desk and play pocket pool all day long. I s'pose that's the bureaucrat's answer to "addressing the problem". When one thinks what could be done with the money that is diverted to pay pocket-pool-players instead of going towards improved services........... read more

The Tustin library is nice inside. The wifi though does not work....at all. Despite saying "library" on the outside, if you go at certain times you'll notice it actually has a dual functionality.....a library and homeless shelter. There was a lot disturbances here ranging from running kids, loud people who can't control their coughs, and loud talking librarians. I came here when I was looking for a quiet place to get some work done and I really liked it. Tustin library is quiet and bright. There are lots of tables with sockets to plug in your laptop. There's a really nice area outside with lounge chairs to relax with a good book. There definitely are some weirdos and creepers here, but what library doesn't have those? The only thing that I was disappointed with are the weekend hours. This place closes so early!! read more

It is never too crowded and I can easily find a table or couch. So far, the staff has been very friendly and helpful.
