I came to the Mesa Verde Library to work on some applications today, and I think that though this library is quaint and small, it is also very peaceful and clean. Upon entering there are stairs that lead to a small upper and lower level for teens that has desks and chairs. I snagged a table with an outlet on the middle level rather easily, and was able to get to work. There was also several computer stations and a place where you can print documents, for a charge I believe. The staff is also very friendly, and I definitely enjoyed doing work here uninterrupted. One thing to note is that if you're expecting complete silence, this might not be the place that you want to, but if you can tolerate some noise and speech, I think that this is a fine enough place to study and do some work. read more

This library is small, but it works perfectly well for me since I like to put my books on hold and pick up, rather than browse the shelves. I love that they have a section for new releases & "lucky day" items. They have books, games, state park passes, & events. Staff are helpful when I'm requesting a book through Inter-Library Loan! Staff here is so kind! I'm new to the OC public library system and have made it my New Year's resolution to read this year so I'm always coming in and out of this location. I'm always asking questions and always met with kindness even when some of my questions feel a little silly. Their holding system is easy- just go grab the books organized by your last name and check out is also easy. I do wish it was bigger and the system had more copies of books but that's the public library system and not this location specifically. Every time I've gone in it's nearly empty and I love that they've dedicated a space for teens. read more

Don't let the cover photo for you. It's not a picture of the library, there's a picture of the friends of the library bookstore in the back of the library. The actual library is a beautiful example modern public architecture open filled spaces. Perfect design for the library. The book selection is very good for a library of its size, but some of the selections, particularly in the electronics and technology section can be a little dated, so it may be a good opportunity to ask the librarian, if they would like a an updated version of a particular book donated to help With the collection. People working here are very friendly and extremely helpful and welcoming. I wish I lived a little closer because I would come here more often. Luckily, your Orange County, Public library card will work all over the county and it is certainly worth a visit to this lovely suburban based library. read more

I used to love this quaint, neighborhood library. It's cute, but cozy and the librarians were so sweet. Lately, the librarians have been quite unpleasant and rude. Not sure what happened. Always want to give people the benefit of the doubt; everyone has bad days! I know I do! But this has been consistently the case within the last six months so we stopped frequenting as it ruins our family outing with the kids. Such a bummer. read more

Came here to check out their bookstore! Pretty decent selection! This bookstore is modernized to accept Venmo! And they have a venmo QR code at their checkout!:) the staff are also very friendly and helpful! I got a lot of books and they gave me a box to carry it all in! I just have to say how LOUD this library is. From the blonde library constantly yelling out hello and goodbye and walking around talking extremely loud to guests it's a joke. Librarians- you need to set the tone of voice for the library. It should be a soft speech you're using not a normal/aggressively loud talking voice. Same with patrons. They are beyond loud! I don't quite understand if the staff just doesn't care about the library noise volume or if they need to be reminded. So here is you're reminder. DO NOT GO TO THIS LIBRARY, IF NOT NECCESARY. As an African American I usually try to approach situations thoughtfully before attributing motives. However, an incident involving an older Caucasian staff member ruined my experience at the library. I had stopped by with my younger sibling to get some studying in prior to our flight. Inside the library, there is a seating area situated beneath the stairway. While engaged in our studies, an employee approached my sibling and me, inquiring if we were teenagers. I responded, 'No, ma'am, my younger sibling is a teenager, and we are simply studying.' Strangely, her reaction was a self-assured smile before she walked away. To my astonishment, moments later, she began pacing back and forth in the vicinity of our study area. Initially, the first five minutes of her pacing were of did not bother me. However, as time went on, with her pacing continuing for a full twenty minutes, each stride appeared to be fixated on our presence The repetitious back-and-forth pacing, paired the with apparent glances directed at me, became extremely uncomfortable and seemed to convey an intent to unsettle. While I initially attempted to disregard the behavior, its persistence became rather disconcerting. I am hopeful that this account garners the attention of her supervisory personnel, as this experience left me thoroughly agitated and perturbed. read more

This Library offers a wide selection of books for infants, teens and adults. It not only provides books, but rental movies, laptops and e-books. I live near the library, and ride my bike to the library every other week. The librarians are almost always helpful, and I had an excellent experience while volunteering shelving books for community service hours. I definitely recommend this library! read more

I was sitting by myself reading a book last Saturday June 29th in the teens section even though I'm not a teen anymore. I'm a full grown woman and I made the choice to sit in that section because to me it looked cute and comfy. A rude librarian interrupted and yelled at me and asked me if I was a teen. I simply told her, "no." She told me that the teen section is exclusively for teens only. I was welcome to sit anywhere else. I didn't appreciate her rude and condescending attitude. Almost a week later, I decided to report her to another librarian. He simply said the same thing. To me, personally, rules like that are absurd. read more

This is a small, low-key library. The building is a bit outdated. The parking lot is off to the side and isn't very well lit at night. They have a drop box for return books near the entrance of the parking lot. There is a small selection of new books where you walk in. Their children's section spans the entire left side. There's a decent collection of fiction books on the right side. The young adult and biography books are near the restrooms. If you head down Adams from Huntington Beach toward Costa Mesa and ascend the brief incline which gives the latter city its name, you will shortly afterward encounter a "T" formed on the left by Mesa Verde Drive, and whose right and southerly arm is constituted by Placentia. Follow the right arm toward downtown and you will meet with the Donald Dungan branch of the Costa Mesa Library. Renovated but a short while ago, it is redolent more of a museum you'd visit in Chicago than it is a stereotypical library. The shelves that greet you as you enter are a spotless white and mercilessly sleek, like those coy pedestals above which, in another setting, might lie a vase or historical trinket. The word "demonstration" comes to mind. Meandering into the Donald Dungan branch on an sunny SoCal morning, one receives the impression that they have been transported to a scene within one of those home renovation catalogues, containing images of immaculate interiors to which one could apply a list of marketable adjectives in which "lived-in" does not figure. The upstairs portion provides encompassing views of Lions Park and the city recreation center, both also newly renovated, and houses pristine restrooms which require you to be buzzed in by a sentinel librarian -- for reasons of public safety, I have been told. Take the other fork and you will find the Mesa Verde branch of the same library system. This branch belongs to another species of library altogether; one could even say another genus. If it were a song it would contain waves of reverb, not the icey echoey kind which indicates empty spaces (for it is a compact specimen), but one which connotes a mistiness, the huddling droplets which collect from the dispersion of memory. If the Mesa Verde were a perfume, it would possess the autumnal dusk of amber. It feels dated and historical in the exact sense of the books it contains. Yet this mystique is hard to extrapolate to its particulars. One standout feature of the Donald Dungan branch is how strikingly well-allocated the space is: like the Huntington Beach Central Library, one can always find pockets of privacy, blind spots to tuck away into. Topologically, the Mesa Verde is a blob. It consists of one large undifferentiated room and when the Sunday book club meets it practically holds the entire library captive with its loud discussions. In general, as several reviewers have noted, the concept of checking one's volume seems totally foreign to most regulars. The book selection is meager in accordance with the size of the space and you'll probably need to request a transfer from a different OCPL branch if you want a particular title. With regard to the restrooms, one would find "inhospitable" or "pitiable" to be fitting descriptors. The doors are perplexingly spring-loaded (that is the only explanation I can come up with) and if you stay your progress at any point while exiting will usher you out aggressively. These restrooms are, however, freely accessible to all. The library's salient feature is a raised mezzanine from which one has a good view of a street intersection, the midriffs of some palm trees, and other scattered foliage. On cloudy days, the globular bulbs suspended from the crimped ceiling above the mezzanine are duplicated by the windows and project back to the viewer lines and lines of softly glowing orbs. I visited the Mesa Verde branch for the first time on a painfully clear day in late summer. Climbing the stairs to the elevated deck, I sat on a wide chair with big armrests facing the entrance and gazed absentmindedly out the window. Inexplicably, I saw huge clumps of bubbles drifting through the street, bumbling and bumping together good humoredly down Mesa Verde proper. I still have no good explanation for this phenomenon (they were large and numerous enough that they couldn't have been produced by a children's toy, so I floated the possibility that it was either a bubble run or a city event -- but in the middle of a residential block?), but it didn't matter. In that moment I fashioned myself an Ishmael on the lookout, so mesmerized by the azure world before me and so generally content that I could (in a second of lapsed vigilance) plunge into the abyss and no end there would await me. It's hardly arguable that the Donald Dungan branch makes for a better library, yet I love vastly more its less radiant sibling. read more

I love this little library! Ive been going here ever since i was a little kid. The librarians are always very helpful. The library has a "old-school" kind of structure, & even on the inside, it has a few interesting features that make it unique & special. I love that they have a separate kids book room. We love this little library. It's quiet and clean. They have a lot of kid friendly events here. Our favorites so far have been animal's that came to visit: Everything from Hissing Cockroaches to cute, little furry critters. Another favorite was reading to shelter dogs (Heart). Being that it's little, they don't have a whole lot of titles here. But they can get them for you. They have a great anime/manga section, though. You can also borrow books on-line via Hoopla. Just outside the entrance, they always have a couple of shelving carts with used books, that you can buy very cheaply. Behind the library, in a container, they have a bookstore, where you can donate or buy books. It supports the library. We LOOOOOOOVE that little store. We have probably bought more books from them, than we have managed to donate.... LOL. They librarians are super helpful! And nice :) They have always been able to help us. So go! yeah this place sorta SUCKS it's tiny first of all and when I mean tiny I mean it's about the size of my apt (sq footage wise) there are not many areas to sit down and just study, only a section of 5-6 cubicles. and the worst part is the screaming kids, screaming all day! and the parents just don't care! like seriously?!?! if I did that when I was a kid my ass would be bright red when I got home, parents nowadays need to learn to discipline their kids but that's a whole different story. the only plus side I can see in this place is that if you live close it's buried in a neighborhood so it'll be convenient for you but that's about it! read more

Today I'm waiting for a space , while one is open ,no one sitting in it for a power supply and in over an hour an and a half its just got a dvd player there. So I go to move it and this guy grabs my hand and says it's my wife's , So she returns with food and begins to watch her DVDs.while eating half hour later , but gone two hours Posted is no food or drink ,thank you , u can see the pictures. They kind of need a little bit of checking going on here. As any attempt to deal with these two or the guy sleeping on today's paper is met with hostility . Strange as they got loud and don't care that this is not a place to sleep or eat or confront people. Respect is needed for those who are here to do work. So I call on library higher ups to check on things more. Sleeping or eating is that ok, or hording a space for two hours, then hav to go thru a verbal fight to deal with these fools . No,please step it up and watch the grounds . Many people enjoy and use the library respectfully .and don't eat here and don't fight,or hog the power supply's and leave the grounds for two hours , what a strange day.I feel bad for the staff as they never hav to deal with this stuff and were nervous....my apologies . There's 1 bathroom stall for male and 1 for female. There's always an issue with toilet paper running out before12:30pm. Bring your own toilet paper if you decide to use the toilet after 12:00 pm because staff doesn't care if there's only 1 roll for the entire day in that restroom. Don't wait until it's too late to go since there is usually a line out the door to the restroom. Otherwise, people here are nice. There are lots of developmentally disabled here, and a few that looked homeless. They like to hoard the paper towels in the restroom and wash their underwear in the sink, taking their sweet time. read more

Visited this library not knowing what to expect. Cute building from the outside, walked in and was immediately wowed at how small it was. You can almost see the whole place from the entrance. To the left is kid's books, to the right non-fiction, and down the stairs is fiction. Library was peaceful albeit tiny with not many places to sit. Long checkout line because retirement-age librarian was struggling to help a long-winded customer. I wondered why CM had three library branches, and now I know. Because this one is tiny, with a small selection of books. I suggest unless you're in the area you go elsewhere. read more

Quaint, retro library with tired books and a dated feel. Seating is limited, there are usually a lot of old folks here tying up the internet computers and reading newspapers. It's hard to even find a work space to do activities with my kids. Bathrooms are small and not stocked attentively. I'm not even sure they have an A/V room. It's a very quiet library most of the time, sleepily so. But on kids days like Tuesday story time, it becomes obnoxiously loud in the cramped space. On the upside, at least it isn't a toilet for the homeless like Donald Dungan branch. read more

I love this library. I visit often, as I use the library hold system to check out books and audio CDs. For .25 cents, I can get any book, CD or DVD sent here for pick up from any of the 33 branches in the Orange County system. Nice layout, clean bathrooms, free wifi and computers available via library card. They also have a Friends of the Library used bookstore with carts out front to buys books even if the store is closed. All the employees are nice and helpful. read more

We do storytime, it's awesome! For quite a while it was Patrick and now there is a new lady. Both of them are top flight. Typically there is story time, some snacks are served and then there's an art project. The kids get a work out for their imaginations, sprinkle their accidental glitter-mess all over the library carpet (instead of my house) and then chomp on their snack. What's not to love?! Also, the check out staff are super helpful. They've found lost books, hunted through the return box to find a book I wanted to check out, offered suggestions for what to read and been downright pleasant most of the time I'm at the library. read more

This library is very cute from the outside. Unlike a few other libraries, this one is located within a neighborhood residential community. I probably drove by for years until I knew this library was here. I recently came here to study, and while they do have open tables. The place is a lot smaller than it looks from the outside. It's kinda cramped and I couldn't seem to find any open outlets to plug my laptop in. Another issue is that the library is a lot older than it seems. My nose kept running from the dust (allergies probably). However the library staff seem very helpful and while small, it's very quaint. read more

Cute, small library. Was able to find a quiet spot to do homework but people hog the seats with outlets. They'll leave their laptops there and go get food. A family of four is actually hogging two long tables with outlets as I speak, the parents surfing Facebook and their two boys gaming on their laptops. Smh. This is a wonderful neighborhood library with very helpful staff. The size prohibits them from carrying a large selection of books, but just about anything can be ordered through their servers and they hold the books for a week once received. They have a nice selection of films and periodicals as well. They also have a small store in the back open most of the week from 1 pm - 4 pm that sells books they can't use in the library - great deals and great prices. read more

In March, I went to the library to catch up on some reading. I went upstairs where the magazines are located and couldn't find any of the 2014 magazines I wanted. I went to the information desk and they told me that they were not available but I could have them transferred from another library. I passed. There were too many to transfer. I went back the following week and still no magazines. As I was exiting, I noticed the clerk at the checkout desk marking up a stack of magazines. She told me they were old magazines being discarded. I noticed the magazine on top had a 2014 date. 2014 old? I recently went to the library to get a couple of CDs. NONE! All the CDs were gone. What's going on with this library? I hate having to find another library, but a better selection is necessary to keep me and others as a patron. read more

I am giving this library 5 stars for the help I recently received. My card stopped working and I was told by two of the staff it was a computer glitch, which I totally understand, but I could not check out a much needed book that was on hold for me. I returned a couple days later and was told the same thing, but this day Courtney came to the desk to help and as a result of her making a few calls, opening a trouble ticket for my card, and getting a "go ahead" from someone I left with the book I needed over this holiday. We love to come to this library with my daughter on Tuesdays for story time and crafts. Its 20 - 25 min storytime and then we go outside for crafts,they provide free snacks for kids. I checked out this library Sunday afternoon and decided to take my books to work on homework. The reason I wanted to go to this library is because it is close by and open on Sunday! I was surprised at how small it is but its A-OK. My girlfriend and I were able to find a table as most, if not all, were occupied. She said that it smelled as soon as I pulled my chair out to take a seat. She did not want to be there but she stuck it out since she wanted to be with me while I needed a place to work on homework free of distraction and table to work on. Two kids were running around and making some noise, but it wasn't for long. We stayed for two hours until closing at 5 p.m. The chairs are not the most comfortable after sitting for that long. Overall, I am thankful for a public library to be so close and available. Not sure if I would come back, but I did get some homework done! Wifi is free and easy to connect. read more
