Omg I love this place. After a particularly, uh, spirited, weekend, this was a god send. My husband and I went here the other night and were in love. It felt so out of place on Broadway, like it should be in Boulder instead, but hey, I'll take it! We got regular size bowls. We're short and athletic and I probably could have easily demolished a large. I got salmon and my hubs decided to be vegan for the eve. He got the tofu and tempeh, which I tried and it was delicious (albeit it was covered in spicy mayo, so naturally it was delic lol). The mix ins and toppings were good and I got the salad base, while my hubs got rice. For the salads, we got the seaweed, the korean glass noodle, spicy green papaya salad, and I the poi'tato salad. The poke salad was awesome. Super fresh, and very tasty. Because of my diet demanding high protein, I went with the large which was 3 protein sources. Another bummer was that out of the 7 or so protein sources, 3 of the top ones I wanted to try were out so I was left with just a few options. I love the concept of Turtle Boat. Presumably the owner was there and helped us with our order. I got the regular portion, and my boyfriend got the large portion. The sides need to come in their own container, because some of the more subtle flavors get masked by some of the more aggressive additives. Next time we go, we know what we like and what to order based on our taste. I think having some "pre-created" meals might help first timers, or some kind of amalgamation of the "Chipotle" type poke scenario. The fish was fresh but not very big portions. The spices mix was awesome, as well as the salad. I loved the Yuzu sauce. Everything was really tasty, just a bit skimpy. Overall I will come back and see how this place evolves. read more

So overall I was pretty excited to try this place. Seeing as, I've heard pretty good things about them. I really enjoyed the all black building with chic art painted or framed inside. It felt really hipster. Food: 7/10 I got white rice with ahi tuna and I just went simple and got cucumbers and green onions, spicy mayo, panda seeds, and seaweed salad. I was curious to what their house sauce was, maybe I'll try that next time. The fish was pretty fresh. I was really surprised to find out they didn't serve avocado here. I must admit when I first dove past the Turtle Boat this week I had no idea what they were about; a new "head shop" on the "Green Mile" or just some new hipster bar. Their brightly painted mural caught my eye and pulled me back to find out what they were up to on S. Broadway. My side salads were the Wasab'amole(TM) and seaweed salad. The fish portion was fresh and flavorful; maybe not as much as I would have wanted but certainly enough so I had a taste in every bite. The mix-ins were are all fresh, crisp with a robust flavor. Their house dressing is a home run that will go well on anything; thus the "house dressing" label! I especially like the Wasab'amole(TM) and seaweed salad. Don't be shy when speaking Jeremy Song chef/owner. He greeted me at the register and asked how I heard of their opening. Don't make the same mistake I did and casually offer a free business tip. Consumer fail! I made the mistake of pointing out that the 'poke salad' signage is not visible to north/south traffic on Broadway. And that in summer months the tree blocks signage from other directions. The man behind the counter starred at me expressionless. Just staring. I want sure how interpret his expressionless facial expression staring straight at me, so I toke that as a cue to explain. I pointed out that poke is new to Denver and if the word 'salad' was visible to traffic it would likely attract a bunch of future die-hard poke fans. He responded by saying that the sign does not need changing...that I was the only one who "has an issue". Dude, I don't have an issue...? Came in for the first time today not expecting much since poke isn't really a thing in Colorado yet (we are from California and Hawaii) but this place definitely impressed us and we will be back! The fish is very fresh, the sides are innovative and delicious, and all the toppings and mix ins are great options. They even have a vegetarian option, which I have never ever seen in any other poke place. We got a mix of Kanpachi, salmon, and locally sourced Colorado bass, tossed with the yuzu vinigarette, which is a delightfully bright citrus flavor that made the fish even tastier. This is not an 'authentic' traditional Hawaiian poke by any means, but their take on it is very tasty and well executed. Added bonus, the owner is well informed about the seafood watch list and makes an effort to source sustainable fish and local greens. The utensils and plates they use are compostable, and the inside is very clean and neat. This is the best place in Denver to get poke, we will for sure be back often this summer for the kind service and good eats. read more

The gentleman who worked there was so kind, it sort of lifted my whole day. After I selected tofu as my protein, he checked with me to see if I wanted to whole dish to be vegan. (I let him know I was vegetarian.) He also explained that I could do half and half for the base (half rice, half salad), which turned out to be a great combo. I ordered the snack size, which I'm putting in the small meal / lunch category. I usually wind up not being able to finish whole meals when I'm at a restaurant, so I appreciate the "snack size" option. I snarfed the whole bowl when I got home (so no photos), and it was delicious! If you want a fresh, absurdly delicious poke bowl, you need to come see the staff at Turtle Boat. I have devoured many of these bowls whenever I am available in the area. It has lowkey ruined all other poke bowls for me! But I'm not mad about it. The two men I usually see are always patient in their explanation of ingredients - impressive feat within it self.
