We stopped by during our first few days in London, then left the city and didn't return until the night before our flight home. After arriving by train, we rushed to our hotel, dropped our bags, and made a beeline here for one last cup of those luscious strawberries drenched in that incredible chocolate sauce. I was so excited to visit this location due to all of the online hype but that is exactly what the experience was as well. It was overhyped in my opinion. It was strawberries covered in chocolate which is already difficult to eat while walking around London. Second it is hard to locate and when you finally find it, you will need to move quickly throughout the line and will not be able to ask questions throughout the line. After the line you will also need to get out of the area before getting the chance to enjoy the cup of strawberries because there are no designated areas to stand in either. read more

3.5 stars. We had to try the viral chocolate covered strawberries since we were in close proximity to Borough Market. I will say that the line is very fast, but chaotic. You make your payment first, but they don't give you any receipt or number, which I know is to keep the line moving. As you approach the staff that fills the orders, you just repeat what you paid for, but at that point, one staff member has not communicated with the other what you paid for, so it can get confusing. We tried them twice during our trip and on the second one, it could have used more chocolate. The cups of strawberries are covered in a melted, warm milk chocolate and they give you a little wooden spoon. I suggest that you start digging in right away because the chocolate can harden quickly and it is best enjoyed while still melty. The strawberries we got were nice and red, a bit juicy, but not overly sweet. Price is on the steeper side, but they are viral after all. If you don't want chocolate, you can just get the cup without the sauce. Do not go there on the weekend. Go during the week, as early as you can. read more

Had to try the viral strawberry cups and they were worth the hype. Don't be deterred by the long lines. This place has got queuing down to a science. The lines are very long and wrap all around to the back of the area in a multiple Serpentine manner however they move extremely quick. Getting up to the last corner someone asks how many you want, yells ahead to the people running the tills (multiple of them) where you simply pay and then circle around front to tell the final stop again how many you ordered. They fill the cups with chocolate and pass them off. The cups are perfection. Each of the strawberries are perfectly ripe and they are large. This place is for sure overhyped and i recommend not spending your money here. $11.35 is way too expensive for a cup of strawberries with chocolate on top. A lot of my strawberries were already going bad and were mushy, which was a bummer and felt like a ripoff. The chocolate was really good, but you have to eat it fast or it dries up quickly. We only tried the juice last time. So this time, we were sure to check out the stall again for the viral strawberries. Especially because we had seen so many people saying it was worth the hype. However, once we were actually at the stall again, we were hesitant to pay that much for a cup of fruit and chocolate. Luckily, they do give out samples so we were still able to try some! The strawberry was really sweet and juicy. And the chocolate tasted pretty good quality. But I will say I'm glad we didn't pay for a whole cup. It's really good but I don't know if it's that good. Turnips is located towards the center of the Burrough Market, and you can't miss it with its vibrant colored fresh fruit drinks, and rows of jet red strawberries. The space looks like part farmers market and part industrial trendy juice bar. Odds are, by this point, you've already seen patrons walking around the market with clear cups jam-packed with strawberries and absolutely covered in chocolate. There is often a line, but the workers are so efficient that you will be in and out within minutes if not seconds. As you pass thru the checkout you are greeted with what I can only refer to as a "strawberry cup jamming chocolate covering technician," and they will ask how many cups you need (ordered). You get your cup(s), and you're on your way! Some tips: This is a market, and vendors prefer cash. Also, this delicacy is not only filled to the brim with chocolate, but the cup itself is probably dripping with it. Be sure to grab plenty of napkins AND forks to share this wonderful treat. Lastly, the Burrough Markets are only open until 5pm, so, make sure you call it an early dinner or pre-super snacks! It's hard to go to Borough market and ignore the calls of the chocolate strawberries that consume social media. I don't totally understand the extent of the hype, as they're good chocolate strawberries, but just that. Sure, they're well done, but after about one or two strawberries I was kind of done with them despite how large of a portion they give. One, it's a farm stand with fresh fruits and vegetables. Two, because it was strawberry season, they had a couple (maybe more?) of employees cutting the tops off of strawberries and placing them into plastic cups. Then there were other employees serving the queue of guests who waiting patiently to order one of the cups of strawberries filled with warm chocolate. Had it been dark chocolate, I probably would have gotten in line. But for milk chocolate, I'll save the calories for something else more appealing. We did meet Konan. He was busy trying to keep the line open and moving by asking people who had purchased food elsewhere to not block his line. He also functioned as the barker who got more customers into line. It was amusing, listening as he barked in English, Spanish and a bit of Portuguese. Turns out that he is multi-lingual, speaking several additional languages and enjoyed his job and did it very well. In between his duties, we had a minute or two of conversation and he is definitely a book who should not be judged by his cover. After our chat, we walked through the rest of Borough Market, tasting some Wild Mushroom Spelt, and then buying some items from the Ginger Pig before returning to Turnips to purchase some fruit to take back to our hotel. The internet made me come here and my god was it ever worth it. I'm not kidding when I say this was my first stop when I got to London. This place, located in Borough Market, is not hard to spot. Leaving a review for the restaurant - although the market side of it is super cool as well. My partner & I had the best meal we have ever eaten in our lives. The service was beyond impeccable. All the servers were funny, friendly, extremely knowledgeable about the menu, and seemed to really care about us & what they were serving. The food was epic. Every course was insanely flavorful and unique and it just blew us away. It is hard to put it into words because we just felt starstruck the entire time. We have never felt so happy to be somewhere. The food, the service, the ambiance. Everything was absolutely perfect. We couldn't have asked for more. It is pricey, but every penny was absolutely worth it. Popped into Turnips at the Greenwich Market. Had a fresh mango and orange juice which was fantastic. Even more impressive was the cheese toastie made with Montgomery Cheddar on sourdough with leek and onion. I give it six stars.
