Around 7:30 in the evening, I arrived at this restaurant, which was already about 80% full. It's evident that this restaurant must have a good local reputation! I ordered a lasagna, an elk burger, and the daily special, cream of chicken soup. The lasagna had a thick layer of cheese on top and was generously sized, but personally, I didn't quite enjoy the taste of their ground meat and the seasoning. The elk burger was also quite large, and the meat was a bit dry, but it became very tasty with the addition of BBQ sauce. The accompanying sweet potato fries were incredibly delicious! Surprisingly, their cream of chicken soup was also very tasty! I went for the BBQ Elk Burger since I'd never had elk before, and I have to say, it didn't disappoint. I was a bit worried it might be dry, but the elk patty turned out tender, though not as juicy as a beef patty. I treated myself to an upgrade with yam fries, and it was the best decision I made all night. They were perfectly fried and paired nicely with the garlic aioli dip. I also ordered the soup of the day, which was Cream of Chicken, and it was a comforting choice for the chilly weather. My Tuna Poke Bowl was made by someone who has no idea what a poke bowl is. It is tasteless, just assembly of the ingredients, and no sauce or dressing. My family's burger was good, but greasy. I waited forever for our waitress to bring some sauce so that I can at least not go hungry amd make some inroads with the poke bowl. Also waited forever for the check. Don't go if you want good food and service. Their default tip pn their credit card swiper was 18%, which i gave. But we were in other places in Golden where the tip started at 15%. The taste on the sauce for the fettuccine was savory and smooth! The cheesy garlic bread was a generous portion and hit the spot. The pizza dough was the right combo of crispy and chewy and very enjoyable. My one critique was that I did not like the size of the pepperoni or that it was cooked under the cheese/sauce. We were headed to Banff and had a hankering for Italian food. Not many choices in the area, but saw that Turning Point had pasta dishes on Yelp. Yelp, you haven't failed me yet. The restaurant was really spacious, had beautiful tables and comfy seats. I could see hosting family get togethers here a breeze. Our host, Nitasha, was very courteous and attentive. After I ordered my chicken soulvaki with fries, I went on Yelp and saw that they had poutines. I mean, come on! You gotta try the poutine if they have it, right? I'm glad I asked her because they do still have it, it's just not on the menu. I felt very 'in the know'. Thanks again, Yelpers. We ordered the calamari starter - omg, get this! Crazy delicious, tender and crispy at the same time. The tangy yogurt sauce that came with it was the best pairing. It is the best calamari I've had, period. The truffle fries - also, get this! Thoroughly coated in truffle oil, perfectly crisp with a generous helping of parmesan cheese on top with the most delicious garlic aioli sauce. Be sure to have everyone in the party eat this so that everyone is on the same level. It is the kind thing to do. The elk burger, veal parmesan and my chicken souvlaki were all yummy, fresh and expertly cooked. The best last minute find passing through to Banff. Nitasha asked where we were headed and recommended two stops on the way to Banff, Emerald Lake and Takakkaw Falls, which became our top highlights of the entire trip! OK place to stop by for a sit-down meal, but maybe not a quick sit-down. I ordered the elk burger which was just ok. The patty had a lot of salt in it and not a lot of extra seasoning. For the price, the burger was just too simple and plain. I also tried the split pea soup which was also super salty and nothing to rave about. A delicious spinach salad with grilled prawns and a very good glass of Canadian Chardonnay from Dirty Laundry. The salad had nuts, fruits, goat cheese and a delicious salad dressing. There's outdoor seating, on a quiet downtown street -- perfect for those warm evenings. Inside there's a TV for sports fans and deep leather chairs and booths by the window. I'm so glad my husband and I made it to this restaurant during our visit to this area. We wanted a birthday celebratory dinner. We ended up sharing the Penne Carbonara. It was plenty for us to share and it was really delicious!! We also split their strawberry cheesecake which we enjoyed sooo much! It had great flavor and the consistency was perfect! It was all so satisfying. I wish I knew our waiters name, but he was so friendly and didn't make us feel rushed at all, but very attentive at the same time. We enjoyed speaking with him for a moment and learned about the family restaurant (in business for 25 years)! As you can tell, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was amazing - greeted as we walked in, sat promptly, brought drinks right away, and our server was very friendly and social while keeping things moving along and answering any menu questions we had. I had the Elk and Boar pizza and it was AMAZING. All of the flavors matched perfectly. I also got the bowl of mussels and was blown away at the flavor in the broth. Strong and wonderful, but not over powering to the rest of the meal like some make it. My girlfriend had the Indian curry, and it was simply some of the best Indian we've eaten on our entire loop through the west half of the country this year. It rivaled our favorite actual indian restaurant of all time. Can not state enough how enjoyable our meal was through and through in every detail. Even the garlic toast which looked pretty basic and plain when brought out was just the perfect mix of toasted and soft, and had flavor soaked through every bite. We both had the Jack Daniels burger and found it to be not only delicious and satisfying, but more than filling after we had enjoyed our Onion Dip appetizer. The food selection is pretty wide, and I'm pretty sure most people could find something to eat on the menu. I chose the chicken souvlaki wrap and it was so good, with tangy flavor and a hot fresh pita. I found the portion size really reasonable and good value for the price. In Golden, the choices for restaurants is fairly limited so my wife and I decided to try the Turning Point for a late lunch meal. The place is fairly large and was busy enough. I got the greek chicken wrap with french fries. The greek wrap was in a warm pita and the portion was fairly generous. There was quite a bit of tzatziki in the wrap but overall it was fairly decent. The fries were thin cut and were over salted for my taste. Standard selection in beer for a small town. My wife got the chicken club. She said it was alright as well. She got gravy with her fries (which helped with the salty fries). Overall this is a decent choice when in Golden, the price is about average (altogether came to about 45 with drink and two entrees).
