EPIK POOLS Integrity, Performance, Customer is Always First…read more First and foremost, it is important to note the owners of Epik Pools, Richard Boehm and Daniel Hlebowicz, are two of the most honest, reputable, and creative individuals we have ever had the pleasure of working with. For us, these qualities were as important, if not more important, than the fact that they are seasoned pool professionals, presented us with an incredibly unique pool design, and followed it up with quality workmanship that went into our investment every step of the way. I would also like to add that we interviewed and received designs from five different pool companies before contacting Epik (referred to us by a friend). Not only were we disappointed with the other companies' less than stellar efforts and lackluster pool designs, we were very frustrated with their lengthy response times. Our experience with Epik, however, was quite the opposite. Daniel came out to meet with us the day after we contacted him, and it was immediately apparent how well he listened, observed, and translated his observations into an innovative, carefully planned pool design. Daniel methodically studied our home's style and décor, which resulted in a design that flowed seamlessly - from the indoors out. Once we saw Epik's plans for our backyard we knew no other layout would do. It is also important to note that Epik's price point was very competitive. And, because their plan was so much more creative and designed with our specific tastes in mind, it was a slam dunk decision. Epik skillfully and meticulously completed our pool design package for the Woodlands Township committee review, and it was accepted with very few changes. They made a point of ensuring our package was done right the first time, in hopes of avoiding arbitration (which all of the other pool companies indicated was likely due to the size/location of our project). It certainly didn't hurt that Epik has a well-established, highly regarded reputation with the Township. It can make the difference between waiting two weeks for your pool approval versus 8 to 12 weeks. Once plans were approved, we were pleasantly surprised to find Epik's other owner, Richard Boehm, wasted no time in scheduling contractors to begin work immediately. Their contractors are one of their greatest assets (a rarity these days). Not only are they 100% reliable, but Epik retains some of the best contractors in the business due to one simple strategy - they pay their contractors fairly and as soon as their work is completed. Because many other pool companies are unpredictable in this area, contractors often leave to find work elsewhere. Epik's immediate payment response ensures they retain only the highest quality contractors in the business. This is important because they show up on time, their work is flawless, and you can be confident they are professional and proficient in all they do. In short, it is apparent they like working for Epik. Epik Pools is fully and completely committed to 100% customer satisfaction. In a project the size of ours, there were bound to be unexpected issues, and with each and every one, Epik quickly and efficiently worked to resolve it. If they couldn't do it over the phone or with their contractors, they were at our house, usually the same day, sometimes, within minutes. They have a "can do" attitude and made every effort to ensure we were thrilled with our new pool. If they say they will do something, you can be confident it will happen. No matter what we asked them to do, the answer was always "we can do that" or "here's another way we can make this work." Epik is incredibly resourceful when it comes to working within the customer's budget. Of course, we wanted all the bells and whistles, but some things just weren't in the budget. In each instance, Epik worked creatively with us to devise a solution that ensured our satisfaction. For example, we had originally chosen stamped concrete for our patio, however, after considering the long-term vision, we decided to install travertine (definitely outside the budget). Epik worked diligently to find another travertine (same color we wanted and just as beautiful) at a price point we could afford. They also gave us a discount on moving our gas line (from one side of the house to the other) to help alleviate the expense. We are thrilled with the result and thankful to Epik for their creativity and generosity to make this happen. The travertine patio is one of the most striking aspects of our pool. A small amount of background... My wife and I have been…read moremarried 45 years. This is the tenth home we have owned together. We have engaged in numerous renovation/construction projects in that time, many of which we were able to complete ourselves with no assistance from outside contractors. When we do require professional assistance, we read reviews, place value in references and receive a minimum of three bids for a project before signing a contract. This pool, our first, we contacted and were working with four designers/pool builders. Dominion rather easily won our respect and the job. Marc (designer) was great to work with from the very beginning. We very quickly established an easy working relationship. He was receptive to our questions and changes as we developed the design of our dream pool. He was responsive to phone calls, emails and texts, sometimes late into the evening. We signed the contract May 17th, after several weeks of visits, changes and decision making. As I said, this was our first pool and we didn't want to rush into it. It took three more weeks before excavation started due to other projects being completed. Once the excavation started, there were several issues that affected the job. An inch and a half of rain on excavation day set the tone for the rest of the project. We endured issues with heavy rainfall, wall collapse, extreme heat as well as Hurricane Beryl. We were informed at the time that we signed the contract to expect 8-10 weeks of construction, start to finish. We know that this was just an estimate, but the job finished (more or less) on day 147. The rating for Dominion is based on our interactions with the builder alone. The individual subcontractors were all wonderful to work with. To be fair, I would like to individually rate the varied aspects of the job. Design - Marc was great to work with. He gave us what we wanted before we knew what we wanted. Five stars for design. He has since left the company. Subcontractors - Terrific group of people from start to finish. There was always someone onsite that was easy to communicate with, and all were very professional. Five stars for the contractors for their execution from plan to finished product. Dominion - Without a doubt the worst experience we have ever had with a construction project. Communication with the Project Manager Matthew was sporadic at best. Because of a perceived issue with our sun ledge that I didn't fully understand and was never explained to me (almost 8 weeks into the job), there was an extended period of time that Matthew would not return our calls or texts (numerous) and Debbie (owner) outright refused to speak with me. (Franco, the tile contractor, resolved the issue very elegantly to our satisfaction. That may have been the plan all along, but there was NO communication from Dominion after several attempts). This was just the beginning of what turned out to be several stalls in the job progress, all of which included a variety of excuses as well as periods of no communication on Dominion's part. Again, to be clear, this was our first pool. We were very upfront with all at Dominion about that. We were very clear that we would be asking a lot of questions and, most importantly, that communication was very important to us. In a rare instance of communication, Debbie informed my wife that every season they had one job where nothing seemed to go according to plan. Whether or not this is accurate, we were that customer. I can go in to great detail on the progress of the job start to finish if requested, but the bottom line is that the negatives outweigh the positive aspects of our choice of working with Dominion. If you are someone who can remain uninvolved in a project like this and the finished product is your only concern, I feel that you will be very happy with this company. To be fair, this review is not coming from someone that is capable of that. When all is said and done, Dominion built a beautiful pool for us using quality materials and contractors. I do understand that Dominion experienced some cost overruns on our build. Some were their own doing and some were unexpected and unfortunate, but the way that they have chosen to handle those issues as well as us as customers has been a major disappointment to me. I expected more from them considering the financial cost of this job. I very much resent being made to feel like the 'bad guy' here when all we wanted was for the agreed upon project to be finished in a timely manner according to our contract. Because of this, I would be reluctant to recommend their services to anyone.
