Kind of janky and probably not always super safe, but okay for a brief stop in daylight on the way down the 99.

If you do join you are welcome to come to all of the meetings and give input in what you think should be done with the park. I saw a comment that a user didn't like the perimeter fence and I agree however that is all the city would approve. Since it is so close to the creek it has to be open so water can flow through if there is a flood. I know it seems silly to me as well. Everyone is supposed to pick up after their pet and we try to keep the dispensers full of bags but sometimes we run out before we get the new shipment. It is expensive to buy the bags but they are biodegradable so worth the extra cost. We hope you have fund raisers in the future, the problem is there is a very small number of people who want to be active in the group. We are hoping to have an event in February, not to raise money but to educate people about the cost and responsibility of dog ownership and the importance of spay and neuter. The City of Merced, Department of Public Works is the agency that is basically in charge of and responsible for the upkeep of the park. Any issues with fencing, gate latches, ground maintence etc. should be directed to them. MDOGS is only required to keep the poop bag dispensers full. My dog Muffin and I welcome one and all to the park. Bring your dogs and have fun.

There were two other owners there this morning between 7:15am and 8:15am. One of them was a medium height with two dogs, both huskies, one white and the other a brown and white color. The owner was on his phone the entire time with his dogs not paying attention to his dogs. The brown/tan one went after my dogs rear flank while she was going for her ball. Even after he stayed on the phone the entire time not paying any attention. Be aware if you see this one. The second owner is an older man I'm guessing 50s to 60s. His dog is a brown and black with tons of grey around the face. His dog went after my dog as she ran after her ball. I told him I didn't appreciate his dog going after mine. During each of the subsequent times he walked around the park his dog continued going after my dog. The lack of awareness of his dog and mindfulness of other people in the park from this man was appalling. After we left the park I noticed, once we got home, that there was blood on the blanket my dog lays on for her after park nap. (See pictures below.) Its a deep gash caused by one of these two owner's dogs. I'm avoiding this park after this incident because my dog is a senior and doesn't deserve to be bitten when she is minding her own business. If you see either one of these owners here I would steer clear.

This is a medium sized park in the area, and the space can be used for many different thing. First,…read moreif you are driving or walking by, you'll notice that trees ring the park. This is really nice because it provides shaded areas to hangout in without obstructing the open are. In this tree lined area there is a pick nick table area that is easily accessible from the street, and there has to be almost 10 tables. So, plenty to go around. There are also 2 BBQ pits on opposite sides of the table area. The playground is also within or by the shaded ring area. So, parents bring your kids and let them play while you chill in the shade. There is also a basketball court, and a beach volleyball court. I think you have to get a hold of the Parks and Recreation division of the City of Modesto because there is a lock on the gate for the volleyball court. One of the best parts of this park is the very large open space that they have. I have driven by this park on the weekend and have seen multiple kids soccer games going on at the same time. Also, ultimate frizz bee and football are excellent uses of this open space. I was there this morning and a guy was chucking a ball for his dog. This space is large enough for a multitude of different activities to go on at the same time. There are also bus stops that run along this park, so if you want to use public transport to get here, that is an option. I give this park 5 stars because a park is what you make of it, and there is a lot of potential here. So, come here and have a good time and make use of this park.

We found this park on Alltrails as a 4 mile hike near the waterway that was dog friendly and…read moredecided to give it a try. When you arrive there is a large parking area but there were a few interesting characters hanging around. After walking out to the viewing area to look at the water, I saw a city crew come in to the parking lot and start taking their lunch so I felt safe enough leaving my car while I tried some of the hike. I started down the stairs and realized my dog was moving slow. On closer examination, the stairs are made with metal sticking out, probably to deter wild animals but regardless, it was cutting my dogs paw pad. I carried her down the stairs and the first thing I saw was a clowder of feral cats gathered around a huge pile of cat food someone had dumped on the trail. We walked for a bit but the high grasses concerned me and I was worried about ticks so we headed down towards the water. It was nice and I would recommend bringing a folding chair and sitting by the water far more than I would recommend the trail itself. I wasn't really feeling it and we headed back up. The trip up the stairs carrying my dog was a little daunting but good for me I'm sure. The bathrooms at this park were really disgusting and I probably wouldn't come back here but try as I might I couldn't find any other reviews of information so I wanted to add it to yelp to help others in the future.
