You'll have to get off at the drop off point from across Manam and walk into a small walkway and then turn right. Our friends invited us here for lunch on a Sunday. Almost all the tables were taken. Fortunately, there is more seating on the 2nd floor. The decor with its blue and white motif transported me to Greece. We ordered shish tawouk, lamb kebab plate, mushroom soup, squash salad, Dubai brownie and tahini brownie. The servings were very generous. My shish tawouk plate had several tender pieces of chicken, eggplant salad, biryani rice, broiled tomato and some kind of salsa-like sauce. On the table were two kinds of sauces - one white (perhaps tatziki?) and one with the color of a thousand island dressing (although it is not). The latter was quite spicy. Best was to use it to dress the chicken starting with the white sauce and a tad of the spicy. Soooo good! The lamb kebab was a bit tough. The squash salad was warm and fresh. Overall, everything was authentic and delicious! I know I will crave this food as it is better than many of the Mediterranean restaurants in Los Angeles, USA. They also have such a variety of dishes to choose from - definitely want to try the other dishes in the menu. I was so hungry and excited, I forgot to take pictures of the food. Service was attentive and pleasant. Our water glasses were always filled. Love this place! Will definitely be back!

There are too many different dishes to mention, I would like to suggest for you to try my favorite go to dish in Cafe Mediterranean which is the Grilled Fish Kebabs with Pita, but what's even better is having the pita changed to buttered rice for a minimal fee! Make sure to also try the spicy Garlic Yogurt sauce on your fish kebabs or any meat of your choice!

To be honest, I'm totally clueless about what Turkish cuisine is about. I don't know any staple…read moredish or native delicacy. Because of this, with the desire to try anything at least once, I did not have any second thoughts about trying this place out. Besides, there was a bit of a line and the area was not deserted so I thought a number of people must really like whatever is on the place's menu. I asked for their bestseller and a slightly indifferent woman on the window recommended the Pita Doner. It looked really tasty and I got excited to take my first bite. And when I finally plunged my fork onto the pita bread, I noticed that it was stuffed with lots of vegetables. I'm not sure if it was a good thing but I expected more meat. The sauces (not sure how they're called) on the other hand, were also kind of bland. Good thing the entire dish was generally filling and satisfying. Not to mention it was already a balanced and healthy diet as it is. It might not be the best I've tasted but I have nothing to compare it with so I guess it was just ayt and I'm still willing to give Turkish cuisine in general another shot.

I can't help but feel that I should have ordered something else. After all, Bricks and Copper's…read morereputation preceeds it as far as I've read. Well, it's hit or miss, really depending who you ask. It just so happened that I was looking for something light that day. With everything around it offering something heavier, a pita donner seemed like a good idea. If you're familiar with the Bricks and Copper from Pleasant Hills, you'll probably notice there's a lot missing from their menu. But at least they kept their best seller, right? The pita donner is... kind of underwhelming. I mean, I guess it's okay. The meat wasn't all that dry. Nice and peppery. Good flavor but the way it was stacked in the pita meant that you'd be left with nothing but vegetables when you reached the bottom. That definitely does nothing for its flavor. That and where I got a container of sauce, my friend didnt and we ordered the exact same thing. Again, I can't help but think I might have ordered the wrong thing but when you order something they claim is their best seller, you'd think there would be a little more to it.

I decided to try Fig for two basic reasons: 1) I love Mediterranean cuisine; 2) I've noticed people…read morestarted raving about this place in every expat online forum I take part. So there was no reason not to try it! Fig is located along Kalayaan Avenue. It's funny, because I always walk around that region when I go from Salcedo Village to Power Plant Mall and I had never noticed this restaurant before! Maybe that's because the visual pollution around P. Burgos Street and Kalayaan, too much information. I think got so used to the "neon lights" vibe and all the pubs that I never expected to find a tiny and quiet Mediterranean restaurant along the way. Now I've tried it, the feeling is that Fig is the perfect place to give yourself a breather. Even the façade makes you feel relaxed, because it brings immediately to memory the Mediterranean fresh architecture. Although it's a tiny place, the restaurant is very cozy. Ok, let's talk about the menu. In simple words: it's just the best food I had in Manila since I arrived here. Really. A true gourmet experience. Everything is so fresh and tasty! All the dishes I've ordered had an amazing explosion of flavors. The open kitchen allows you to see the French chef preparing the food. What impressed me is that he was alone all the time. He cooks EVERYTHING himself, while he listens to some nice music :) For me it was very interesting to see his "creative process" - cooking with passion is a true creative activity, I have no doubt! Fig works only with fresh ingredients. They're proud of sourcing all products from organic farmers. 90% of their ingredients are organic! Nice, isn't it? I highly recommend all the dishes I had there. Husband and I started with a Gazpacho Soup. It was very good, but it's spicy! Be prepared. We also had two starters: Torta de Patata (P-E-R-F-E-C-T!!!) and Spanakopita (a greek spinach pastry). Each dish comes with two units, so it's nice for sharing. For the main course I had their signature dish - the Tagine of Lamb, cooked with almonds, chermoula, figs, ginger, carrots, cinnamon, saffron and parsley. Just zesty! The meat was very tender. WARNING: Once it has lots of thermogenic ingredients, I started sweating! :P No problem though. I had a great time with this delicious dish. I suggest pairing your tagine with the Jeweled Couscous. Now I think I'll need a weekly visit so I can try all the menu! Go there. Really.

The tiles inside are enough to convince you that there is beauty to be savored. And the quality of the food, more than enough to make you list this as your new favorite restaurant. Mediterranean at its finest! Yup, nothing street food-y about this place, indeed. Instant favorites are the mushroom-goat cheese Turkish pizza, lamb tagine (oh so tender, that lamb!!!!!!) and their nicely flavored souvlaki. Shared with friends and paired with a good glass of red, expect the night to last until closing time. And the plates, all cleaned out -- by three petite girls, in our case! The menu is extensive enough that I cannot wait to go back and try everything else!

I have never tried souvlaki before, even in my pre-vegan days (ashamed!), so this means only one thing. I dragged a few friends with me all the way from Makati to BF Homes just so we could try this place out. It's a charming and quaint place with beautiful, mediterranean-themed decor. I mean, anything mediterranean is beautiful to me! I think you can tell the difference between a good falafel/souvlaki/mediterranean sandwich wrap thing and wannabe local versions by the sauce they use. Good places use actual tahini sauce (sesame-based sauce), while those you see in food markets, kiosks, and the like use this garlic cream sauce thing (that Pinoys loooove and swear by - not me though) similar to what cheap shawarma places use. Anyway, I was really pleased to know that they use tahini for the vegan falafel souvlaki. Inside it are elongated pieces of falafel and veggies. It was a satisfying meal nonetheless, and if you're bringing friends, their dip platter is EXCELLENT! Baba ganoush, hummus, olives and tzatziki (tzatziki is not vegan though, has yogurt) served with pita bread.

There are so many more options for eating out and we no longer have to brave the traffic heading to Makati, Ortigas, or even Quezon City. Once such occasion was when friends had the itch to eat good Greek food, so we headed to Aguirre Avenue and made our way to Ble. There were three of us so we felt it was perfect that they have a dip platter and we can try a bit of all their appetizers. It had Grecian favorites like babaganush, tzatziki, popular hummus, and a few pieces or olives, along with slices of pita bread. I then had their gemista - bell peppers stuffed with rice and bits of wagyu, then baked to perfection. I liked that it wasn't overwhelming and not too filling, mainly because I wanted to save room for dessert. Finally, the time for dessert came, and we each took a slice of baklava. Oh it was heavenly. They take pride in the 50 layers of handmade fyllo pastry, pistachios and syrup that altogether makes one hel of a dessert. It's a fantastic way to end a meal. These days, not so many people say "oh you're from Las Piñas? Where is that? Is it far?" Thanks to little restaurants like Ble that make the southern star on the map shine brighter.
