I have eaten here twice so far - once, unfortunately, when I was sick, the other a couple of weeks later when I have recovered enough. Both times I ordered their beef shawarma wrap.
The first time I ate here, my tongue had just broken out with canker sores all over. It was dry, and eating anything (especially anything spicy, dry, abrasive, etc.) was cripplingly painful. Since I rarely ever get a chance to sit down and break bread with friends, though, I obliged. (Of course, hearing "shawarma" in the name was also a factor).
No miracles happened - it still hurt to eat, of course. It hurt a lot, but despite the pain and deadened taste buds at the time, I could STILL taste the savory juiciness of the beef! What's more, they also had well-iced and diligently-refilled service water available by self-service right beside the counter. Food was served within 10 minutes, which is understandable given we were a bit of a big group of 10 people or so coming in.
A few weeks later, when my mouth had recovered considerably, I came back to eat lunch there by myself. This time, I ordered some keema to go with my shawarma wrap. Tasting the well-seasoned beef (a good mix of savory juiciness and a slight tangy spice), and now the well-cooked pita bread, with a fully-functional tongue definitely made my day!
With each order, they also provide a packet for 2 out of 3 of their trademark sauces (cheese, ranch, chili-tomato), and can serve additional packets of sauce free of charge. Because of this, and the leftover sauce in my keema, I had enough appetite to order extra pita bread. The pita bread was nice and toasted, providing great solid texture and a fullness in its taste.
That brings me to yet another great thing about this place: The price! The shawarma wrap (with keema)--already a full meal-- cost me only a little under 200, and the extra pita bread cost only 40 bucks. Portion size was quite bro-friendly, being just enough to fill you up.
Last but not least, the ambience. Shawarma Bros started out as a food truck in Pasig, and this branch in BGC was their first venture at a brick-and-mortar eatery. The ambience managed to keep their identity as a bro-friendly food truck intact, from the decorative road signs to the pay-as-you-order counter setup.
All this being said, I would of course go back for some Bro-food! But that brings me to my one and only gripe for this establishment: BGC is too far from my place! read more
