It was our first time here and I ordered the 3 taco plate. The server said we could choose 3 different tacos if we wanted, so I chose 1 carne asada, 1 chicken tinga, and 1 mahi mahi. The mahi mahi was so dry an not edible. The server did not inform us that they charge you the price of the most expensive meat as if I ordered 3 carne asada tacos. There is a clear difference in price for chicken, fish, and carne asada. I mentioned it to the manager and he said that is how they do it. I also mentioned to the manager how the mahi mahi was so dry and not edible and he said he would let the kitchen know. Ummmm OK! So be aware when the server recommends the 3 taco plate with 3 different meats that you will be charged the most expensive meat price. I would not get the mahi mahi tacos again.... no bueno! read more

Arrived at Tulum around 1:50 PM on a Sunday. The outside of the restaurant was very clean and inviting. As we entered the restaurant we were greeted at the front door by the hostess. The interior of the restaurant was very upscale, and the lighting was purposefully dim. We were promptly seated in the rear of the restaurant towards the bar area. Less than three minutes after we were seated we were greeted by our server. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. We ordered two waters with lemon and a queso cheese dip. While we were waiting for our drinks and appetizer I couldn't help but notice all of the TVs around me. This was a negative for me, only because it was projected to customers that the restaurant attempting a high class, upscale dining experience, however the large TVs gave a sports bar/typical low end restaurant vibe. Also, something else that caught my ear was the music selection. Couldn't help but to notice Ariana Grande playing over the overhead speakers... I would expect a resturant that is aiming for a high class dining experience to play music that would be expected for those type of customers, like acoustic music with no singing. The server brought us three tostada shells, a bowl of house salsa, and house chipotle dip as a free appetizer. Shortly after our cheese dip with house made tortilla chips and our waters arrived. The appetizers were wonderful, no complaints. Cheese dip was hot and fresh, you could tell that it was house made. The water however was terrible. It tasted of sulfur/mineral water. I don't know what the solution to that is, but they will have to address it soon, especially with targeting high end customers. We ordered the Birria Tacos, with poblano macaroni and cheese, and refried beans. We also ordered Birria Ramen noddles, with a side of Okra Sofrito. The main dishes were fantastic. They were delivered steaming hot, and everything tasted as if fresh ingredients were used. Food was excellent, friendly staff, attentiveness, and knowledge of the staff members 10/10 Water was a huge point deduction. 1/10 TV's and music selection was also another large point deduction. 5/10 Overall, I rate this resturant 7.5/10. Went to Tulum Saturday evening. Do not go here if you want a taco truck Definitely go here if you want something more. My wife and I met friends here and the food was great. Now I also had an Oaxaca (sp?) old fashioned which started the meal off in a great way. It's made with Mezcal and orange and bitters. My wife and I both got chicken dishes which were fantastic and the Plano rice was very tasty but what isn't when you too it with queso ? Our friends dinners were also enjoyable. 1st let me say the place is so beautiful! Our waitress Ashley was so nice and attentive to our needs. This place is nothing like I would expect from a "Mexican cuisine" it's very upscale, but yet you feel okay going in just everyday clothes . The food was superior to any other Mexican cuisine I've had it's not "fine dining " but it's not cheesy run of the mill Mexican restaurant. It is more expensive than other Mexican restaurants but this place is just a little bit more of an elevated dining experience so you're gonna pay a little more . It's the little things in the dishes that make it different than the other places . I will be going back , but I won't be going back if I just want some chips and salsa and a margarita, because the chips (unless you ask for chips ) is really a tostada with salsa , but the salsa is delicious. read more

This is the restaurant that we have been looking for. We have wanted to find a "Mexican" restaurant that was not typical. This place is beautiful on the inside and out. The decorations are classy and subtle. It makes the whole place feel very high end. The food was amazing. The Specialties are creative. I had the Pink Paradise Enchiladas which were shrimp with a roasted beet sauce. Very unique and delicious. It came with poblano rice that was very good. My wife had *ribeye* fajitas, a first. Cooked medium and so tender. It came with refried beans and rice but these were not the usual. The beans had a smoky bacon-y flavor and the rice was mild and definitely made in-house. We also had the okra sofritos that is hard to describe but was creamy and yummy. Will definitely get that again. Our server, Robert, was great. He was very knowledgeable and happy to help. He was also passionate about the restaurant. He was attentive but not overbearing. He had great recommendations. We had a great anniversary dinner at Tulum. Gimo was our server and was the absolute best. He had such good recommendations and brought out a killer tres leches cake on the house after our meal to help us celebrate. This was my third time trying Tulum and it remains the top Mexican cuisine in the area, in my opinion. My wife and I went here for her birthday, and I'm so glad we did! After we left, we both agreed that Tulum was the best restaurant experience we had ever had in our lives, no hyperbole. My wife also had a strawberry mango mocktail which was very tasty. To finish it off, we got the Amor Por Tres cake for her birthday celebration. The atmosphere was magical! You really feel like you're having an experience instead of a meal. All of the lighting and decor was designed beautifully. We took pictures in front of their wall that had the words "more amor por favor" Despite the food and atmosphere being top-notch, the service was the best part. Our server, Frances, was like a mindreader. She helped us with our food modifications, I never had to ask for a refill, and she offered to take photos for us before we were going to ask her. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the Poblano Mac, but that could be personal preference. The Lobster Dip was the best thing we had. My fiancé doesn't usually enjoy lobster, and he loved it. I ordered their beef tacos thinking that would be a safe bet. Wrong. The beef was dry and had very large chunks. I took two bites and could not finish them. My husband ordered the birria tacos and they were decent. Upon leaving though, we both felt gross (that's the only way to describe it). Almost like the food wasn't good quality.
