Please adopt here. We adopted a dog off the euthanasia list here. They constantly need more space, which is why they euthanize. Everything they told me about him was very accurate. Staff was very friendly, kind, and helpful to me. They will let you back by yourself to look at dogs if you're wanting to, and will quickly guide you if you want to look at a specific dog. The dog we adopted is healthy, taken care of, and has no behavior issues. Shelters can be a lot for dogs and he has mellowed out a lot since he's gotten home. Please don't let the shelter personality sway you away from adopting. The shelter is very overwhelming for these dogs. TAS neutered the dog we adopted, gave him all of his shots, gave him heartworm medication and gave us the next months worth, gave him flea/tick medication, and sent us home with antibiotics just in case he started showing symptoms of kennel cough (he never did). All for FREE! Even adoption fee was WAIVED! I paid nothing! Facilities are just okay. Hoping the new building will be better. If you are wanting to look at a dog, they have the option to take them outside and put them in a concrete run for you to meet them. Please save a life and adopt here. TAW is an open admission shelter which means they can't pick and choose who to intake. Due to being on "managed intake", they do require appointments tho. Called today Sunday Jan 5th at 230. Neighbor refuses to bring dog inside and it will be cold temperatures in the teens. We can hear the dog crying during nights its in the 20s, it will be dangerous when its only 10-15 degrees tonight. I was told they don't respond to dogs being left out bc a dog house is out there. Was told all dogs can handle freezing temperatures in the teens and below if provided a dog house. Not true. There is an ordinance in Tulsa Dogs must also be brought into a temperature-controlled facility when the temperature is at or below 25 degrees Fahrenheit, City Council said animal welfare and police officers are authorized to enforce the ordinance. i really don't know where to start... they sure don't always answer the phone for one thing... i been calling and calling many times in one week for needing to find out what to do about a house that was citied by the city, the people left 12 or more cats .... i started to feed them and i want to get them somewhere they will be fed, cared for till adopted out... i looked on tulsaTnR page and they would only do so much and i dont have the 75$ per cat for them to help.. so i have to call a certain number to make an appointment to take the ones in i can catch.... since they sure wont come pick them up.... and dont get me started on all the dogs they put down.... all because the AC does NOT ENFORCE the S&N laws already in place... they dont go find the homeless that dont have leashes on the dogs, then alot of dogs gets hit and killed and lays for days cause TAW dont pick up dead dogs...they need a 24 hr hot line for such things... and not let that poor dead baby lay and rot, till the city is called and its picked up...ive pulled so many baby's from the road that wasnt to bad that i couldnt stand it and called them in... and sometimes it was on the weekends when i have run across the poor dead dog or cat in the roads.... another reason for a 24 hr hotline... for what ever the reason needed... its NEEDED.... they say they dont have enough staff... well HIRE MORE PEOPLE... that love and care about the WELFARE of tulsa's over growing population of dogs and cats... write them hefty tickets .... enforce that law... do right by the dogs and cats of tulsa.... not kill them... and this new shelter, well its gonna be just the same... over run with unwanted , uncared for dogs and cats... The mindset of the employees at this shelter is so warped and gravely misaligned with the supposed goal of improving the lives of the animals in their care. Simply put, their attitudes are completely toxic. People go there with the best intentions of adopting a pet, but often leave feeling like they did something wrong, or that they were annoying the staff by just being there. If you ask too many questions, they become suspicious that you only want to adopt and then sell the animal for profit, or something like that. It's so appalling and in my opinion, a complete farce, because they literally will let almost anyone that walks through their doors adopt without asking one single question, (excluding the two questions on the application). So hypocritical. People go there with a desire to help these animals but leave feeling like they were punished for it. How messed up is that?! They are treated with disrespect and hostility as if they are the irresponsible owners who abandoned/neglected the animal. Like they say, no good deed goes unpunished, at least not at TAW. They are also dishonest and will manipulate the situation to cover up their mistakes (Yes, I have proof). They are begging (and guilt-shaming) people on social media everyday to help by adopting and saving the pet from euthanasia, only to treat them like this. It's so frustrating! Actually, I liken it to an abusive relationship. They gaslight you, blame you for everything, make you look like the bad person, and leave you wondering what you did wrong. I called previous and secured an appointment for 2:30 for a welfare check on a stray we found. waited outside for over an hour with no associate. Facility didn't answer repeated calls since you cannot bring animals inside. Do better! read more

they are doing what they can to take care of dogs, cats, etc. remember this facility is run by city of tulsa, so if you like things about this facility tell the city of tulsa, and if you don't like things about this facility tell the city of tulsa. they have made alot of improvements in the last year or two. examples: 1) they are now a 85% "no kill" shelter. 2) they are breaking ground on a new facility soon, on land nearby the old facility. read more

I've been looking for my male pit for days with no luck. TAW is so unhelpful. The kennels are disgusting and the staff is so rude. They won't help you look or answer questions. They name the dogs they find immediately on their website which is just wrong!!! Those aren't their names. There are dozens of community service workers just standing around avoiding their jobs and still getting the hours for work that obviously isn't being done. The kennels are too small for some of the dogs they have and although there are empty kennels that are big enough they still leave these large dogs in the small kennels. I pray to God that if I find my dog out there he's been treated kindly. read more

Kind of hard to find. I started off looking for a cat here because I think they are a kill shelter, I was hoping to save a life. They are funded by the city/county and are on a limited budget. There are two sets of doors, when you go through the second set, it smells awful. You sign in and say why you are there. They have some cats in the entry area to adopt. The cat room is to the right, before the second set of doors. It is clean and doesn't smell at all. There was a guy with a broom that greeted us. If we had wanted more info, he probably would have helped, or found someone to help us. Several of the cats I saw online were there, but looked sick. They have some that have been adopted, but are waiting to be approved or be neutered. They did have a couple of healthy looking cats, but none of the available cats showed interest in us. The one that looked healthy, that my husband liked the looks of, looked scared to death. We didn't ask to interact with any of the cats, I didn't want to stress them out. One cat had a note on his cage that said "Adopted". He would have been purrrfect for me, he told me his bags were packed and he was ready to blow this popsicle stand, but I was a day late and a dollar short. I am glad they do adopt cats out and hope they don't kill any of them. If you are looking for a cat or dog too, please check here. Adopted two dogs and a cat from them. The dog kennel area is noisy and stinks. Literally almost all the kennels were full of poop with dogs going nuts. Also their version of testing if a cat is freindly with other cats needs to relooked at before their employees get hurt. The girl litterally stuck the cat my sister was looking at into the face of another caged cat to see if he was cat freindly. Luckily he is with us for life now. Finally I did not appreciate the employee calling me a know it all behind my back which my sister heard. He nearly caused the shelter the adoption of my pup. The worst experience I've had the misfortune of dealing with, the staff lie repeatedly don't talk to their "managers" or director and when their vet went to the hospital the day before my dogs I'm adopting where supposed to have their operation they didn't inform me into the day of, and can only answer my questions of when with uhhhhh maybe tomorrow we don't know. This is the third day the vet has been out and they refuse to do anything so I can get the pups out and make room for more dogs it's incompetence in the highest order and down right disgusting, and the kennels are worse then the prisons I've seen while in Iraq. read more
