Easy to find. They have the cats roaming around together. The cats are very healthy and in good shape. The place is very clean. They have a vet they use and take their cats to the vet at the drop of a hat. You have to fill out an application, they ask for references and the history of all your prior pets and vets. If you have a vet who keeps good records and keep up shots, they will probably let you adopt a cat. I mad many vets, poor records and spotty shot records. They gave me the 3rd degree, but did let me adopt. The adoption fee is $75. That includes shots, neuter/spay, microchip and checkup. They give you a complimentary bag of Science Diet and 2 cans of cat food. They require you to have the cat in a carrier prior to exiting the building. They will loan a carrier

Please adopt here. We adopted a dog off the euthanasia list here. They constantly need more space,…read morewhich is why they euthanize. Everything they told me about him was very accurate. Staff was very friendly, kind, and helpful to me. They will let you back by yourself to look at dogs if you're wanting to, and will quickly guide you if you want to look at a specific dog. The dog we adopted is healthy, taken care of, and has no behavior issues. Shelters can be a lot for dogs and he has mellowed out a lot since he's gotten home. Please don't let the shelter personality sway you away from adopting. The shelter is very overwhelming for these dogs. TAS neutered the dog we adopted, gave him all of his shots, gave him heartworm medication and gave us the next months worth, gave him flea/tick medication, and sent us home with antibiotics just in case he started showing symptoms of kennel cough (he never did). All for FREE! Even adoption fee was WAIVED! I paid nothing! Facilities are just okay. Hoping the new building will be better. If you are wanting to look at a dog, they have the option to take them outside and put them in a concrete run for you to meet them. Please save a life and adopt here. I have nothing bad to say.

The staff does care for the animals in their care, and make the best out of very limited resources. Looking forward to the new shelter facility!! Want to save lives? Adopt from TAW. I first was introduced to SPR in 2001 when I got my first bichon, Kansas, from a pet store in CO…read more(it was my first pet ever and I didn't know the horrors of pet stores at the time). After I got him, I discovered he was from a puppy mill and the pet store was not only ready to send him back because his nose was more pink than black but they were going to send his sister as well. I ended up going and getting his sister (who they still charged $1500 for- greedy bastards) and was trying to find a home for her & stumbled onto SPR. I ended up finding a home for her locally with a friend but was alerted shortly after about a bichon on deathrow in Denver. I fostered (well failed fostered) Gizmo from when he was 12 until almost 17 years old. I also fostered another SPR pup, Diego who one of my close friends adopted. Anyways, fast forward many years and I lost my dear Kansas to cancer and made a memorial donation to SPR. I wasn't ready at the time for another bichon as I thought it would remind me too much of Kansas - low and behold, they sent me a picture of the cutest bichon mix fostered in Illinois. I brought Tater Tot to his forever home in 2013 and he has been a true joy ever since. We lost our 2nd furbaby, Ginger, his week and I am once again reaching out to SPR to see about options in the near future to adopt another bichon/bichon mix. They have always been so kind, compassionate, and grateful for the donations over the years. I have never had a problem adopting with them and I would recommend to anyone who has had a negative experience to maybe explore foster care or being a little more patient as they really only have the best intentions to match the pup to a good home. I love you all at SPR- thank you for enriching my life. I will be a lifetime supporter - Tami Miller

I have adopted one of the hundreds of maltese dogs from the Stroud incident. She is a 3 year old…read moremaltese. I am 74 years old and my wife and I got a dog less than a year after we were married and have had many dogs since then. We have had this maltese about 10 days and I don't remember being so thrilled with a dog. This one had no sense of what it meant to be a dog. She had not had a bath for the first 3 years of her life, she had never been on grass before, she had never been cuddled or loved. A week later, she has learned that outside is a marvelous place to be, she goes out there to go pee and poop. She has become my dog and jumps up in my chair and she has only done that the last couple of days. We took her to the groomer and he bathed her, cut the hair out of her face, did her toenails, and did that anal thing. By that time she was too stressed to really cut her hair so she came home with us. We are going to take her back and get her hair cut next week. The people at the Tulsa Humane Society were just wonderful and helped us through the whole thing. This is probably the last dog I will ever get, but I am extremely pleased with this one. Thanks THS for rescuing this dog so that I can have her. By the way, her name, and this is the first name she has had, is Ava Leigh. She is a beauty.

I recently adopted a puppy from The Tulsa Humane Society who was attending an adoption at Glove…read moreLife Park in Arlington last Saturday. On Monday the puppy was a little lethargic. Tuesday evening he had a runny stool and threw-up Tuesday night. I was at my local Veterinary the first thing Wednesday morning where I found out the puppy tested positive for parvo. I am a disabled veteran who was adopting this dog to replace my current service dog. So far, this experience has done the complete opposite of the reasoning behind having a service dog. Not only has my family and myself been effective negatively, but my current service dog allowed a puppy to come into her home and now was suddenly removed for treatment. Unfortunately I had not even had time to add this puppy to my insurance plan. As of now we have paid $751.20 that covers his hospital stay through tomorrow. If he needs to stay longer the cost is $110 per day after that (not including extra or unforeseen medical needs). I think that would be a small price to pay for some extremely positive publicity. I need your decision quickly as I am a disabled veteran and have a fixed income. I look forward to your prompt reply. Update. Tulsa HS contacted me and advised I could pay for treatment out of pocket I already have) or they would come pickup the dog and treat him, If I relinquish the dog back to them (I live 4 hours from them). I have decided to keep the dog as the second option is not the right thing to do. All I wanted was to be helped with the medical bill that is saving this dogs life and to let the Tulsa HS know their dogs were testing positive for Pravo. I understand a contract was signed but one does not expect a puppy, who is supposedly up to date on shots, need to be taken to the vet for a life threatening illness within days of taking them home. I just want you to be aware how Lawrence decided to treat a disabled veteran and his future service dog. I hope everyone involved who had dogs anywhere near the adoption that took place at Globe Life Park on Saturday 7-29-2023 take precautions so this is contained.

I want to warn people about the German Shepherd rescue that shows it's dogs at Tulsa Petco at…read moreRiverside on Saturdays. The proprieter, in MY opinion, is not honest about behavior issues the dogs have. She has deleted all the comments pertaining to my complaint, which further makes me think she is not being honest. I adopted Cali on Dec. 4. I was told she was "very well house trained". She did not potty in the house, but she does have severe separation anxiety and destructive behavior if left alone, although she is fine if you are there. She also jumps on you when excited and the people who had her before me, one of them suffered injury. I returned Cali Dec.8 and she has not been put back up yet, but I am concerned that the lack of this person's honesty is preventing the dog to find the right home and the trauma of being shuffled so much is further damaging her psyche. I have also noticed Bacall was adopted Dec.5 and is currently up for adoption again. I am concerned for these animals and just want people to be aware of these issues. If a rescue won't let you take the dog home to make sure it fits your lifestyle before paying the steep fee, please reconsider making that commitment. I have been a dog owner/lover all my life, but the experience I had here has soured me from ever "rescuing" a grown dog and from owning one at all for some time. Please research any dog you think you want to adopt, as well as the place you are planning to adopt from. That goes for all rescues, not just this one. I am considering filing a complaint with the BBB and ASPCA because I do not feel this person has the animals best interests in mind. This is solely MY experience/opinion, but I want to make people aware. Further note, when I called the owner out on this, she blocked me from being able to comment on her site, deleted all my comments pertaining to the dog I adopted and what happened to the lady who was injured. Good news, I have screen shots of all these prior to deletion to back up my story. Additional note, Cali was adopted out again just before Christmas and that person also had to return her Karla Wilson never responded to the BBB RE: complaint filed. It is now a mark on the business record. Please report if you have had any issues with this rescue for behavior issues. I have reported this woman to the BBB, pending response. Karla finally responded. She is hiding behind her contract and claiming I was made aware of Cali's behavior issues. This is not true. Case is still open and pending her next response. This complaint can be viewed on the BBB website. Still pending her next response from the BBB.
