Ranch Acres used to be a great place to care for all animals. Now they care more about the big profits. It's absolutely sickness me.

I spoke to Jenny at lengths on the phone when I made the initial appointment to obtain pricing and what care package would best suit our needs. We arrived the next day for our appointment - the facility is nice and clean! We were taken to a room by Monica who had quite a bit of knowledge and suggestions for flea/tick prevention, etc. Then we got to meet with Dr. Caruso who we absolutely adore! She has excellent bedside manner, took the time to listen and provide her feedback/suggestions based on the needs of our pups. She suggested that we do a courtesy dental check in 6 months as it just wasn't necessary to spend all kinds of money for dental cleanings at this time - our pups are getting older and we don't want to unnecessarily put them under for a cleaning, if it's not necessary...we appreciated Dr. Caruso's guidance and expertise - she genuinely cares and wouldn't suggest something that isn't necessary just to make a quick buck. She has integrity and high ethical standards. One of my pups has a known vaccine reaction so he always has to be pre-medicated. Dr. Caruso shared that most small dogs react to lepto, so did not get him vaccinated for that nor did we pre-medicate him. Unfortunately, my pup did react, so we discovered it was likely the rabies vaccination since he was not vaccinated for lepto. My pup was taken back and treated with a round of antihistamines and steroids - Dr. Caruso was very kind to comp those two injections. Our pups have "alerts" on their accounts now so that the RTAH staff know what allergies and special instructions to follow when our pups are seen - Monica even showed us the alerts so we were comfortable about the notes listed. We talked about switching dog food and Dr. Caruso walked out into the lobby, showed me the dog food and even grabbed the bag of dog food and carried to our exam room for us. The next day, Dr. Caruso called to check on the pups and also to provide us with fecal/blood work results. She told us to call if we even needed anything. Quite frankly, coming from a family of veterinarians, I'm extremely picky, with high standards and expectations when it comes to the care of my pets. Dr. Caruso and the gals at RTAH we're stellar - we will definitely be back and look forward to continuing a relationship with RTAH!

My only concern is that we didn't have to show proof of vaccinations - while the dogs don't necessarily interact, there are communal spaces and we have a pup at home who is a little more vulnerable. I brought my dog in for grooming around noon on Sunday, May 9th, 2021 for the first time to this facility on South Peoria. The shift manager, Michelle, sold me on the deshedding package to assist my dog in transitioning with the spring season. When I picked up my dog later that afternoon, she wasn't acting normal and unfortunately the damage was not immediate evident through her thick fur. When we returned home, she spent the rest of the day mostly hiding under my bed. The next day she also spent hiding and did not want to eat her food. This behavior continued through Tuesday night when I tried to pet her along her back and she yelped really loud as if in serious pain. I took her to our regular vet, and they confirmed the touch sensitivity, when she tried to touch my dog along her back, she yelped very loudly again in serious pain. My vet prescribed a pain medication and anti-inflammatory to treat the sensitive area. Two days later, after she had time to heal and allowed me to pet her again, upon closer inspection I could really see the dried blood and scabbing from the cuts she received by the groomer using a furminator brush on my dog. I immediately set another appointment with my vet to inspect the wounds. Our vet prescribed additional medication, an antibiotic, to help the wounds heal and prevent infection. I left the veterinary office and went straight to this facility on South Peoria to show them what had been done to my dog and ensure this did not happen again. When I arrived and asked to speak to a manager, Michelle, who said she was the shift manager, asked what happened and when I explained the situation, she confirmed it must have been Elizabeth who groomed my dog on Sunday. During our conversation, Michelle said 'yeah I can see the scabs and it looks like dried blood' and that the trauma may have occurred due to the 'sharp teeth on the furminator brush'. Another young male groomer who had been listening to the conversation agreed and said, 'yeah you have to be really careful with the furminator, I cut myself on it all the time'. Michelle offered to call her manager, Cheryl and disappeared into the backroom to take the call. I asked for a direct phone number or email to the facility manager but Michelle refused and said she could only take my information but was not sure when Cheryl would be able to call me. When I pressed again for direct contact information, she said she could only offer this general email 'contact@sloppydogwash.com' but that Cheryl would receive that email directly. Not only did I pay $78, including tip for the service, but I have also now paid $220.18 to the vet for examination and medications. The manager and owners have yet to respond to my email regarding the trauma my dog has endured. I emailed again several days later including additional photos of the healing including additional hair loss down to her skin. Their lack of response indicates to me that they have little interest or concern in the welfare of their customer's pets and it's no wonder your employees lack the proper training to conduct the services they offer without causing harm. I have reported this incident to the Better Business Bureau in hopes my complaint will be taken seriously and no one else's pet will be harmed. If a resolution is not able to be made with them I will be taking this issue to small claims court.
