Very cool food containers

Clean, interesting ambiance (a tuk tuk in The restaurant), quick counter service for my coconut chicken soup, my staple at any Thai place. This was the first time I'd actually bitten down on lemon grass and a piece of ginger. While this is atypical, it was not entirely unpleasant I really loved the mushrooms. Wish I'd asked what they were but I was lucky to understand the counter girl enough to pay for my order.

Tonight we ordered takeout from the Creekside location. The interior is modern and clean with plenty of tables and counter seating at the windows. Order was ready in 15 minutes after calling it in and the staff are friendly. I've only been to this location but have heard similar very positive reviews from friends who've ordered at the downtown 17th Avenue location. We ordered the following: Crying Cowboy Ribs (approximately 8 pieces) were tender, moist, meaty and there is extra sauce that it sits in. The sauce kind of has a sweet taste to it mixed with the salty. So good. These are pork ribs by the way. Prawn Pad Thai (requested extra spicy) is cooked to perfection from the noodles to the prawns. The flavour is delicious and the extra heat (spiciness) was not too much to bear. Always a favourite when ordering Thai. Devil's Chicken will make you sweat beads so beware (if you're not into spicy). But we love it! It's chicken in an extra spicy curry, lemongrass, turmeric sauce, seasoned with lime and chilies. They are generous with the sauce which is great to smother the coconut rice it comes with. Nothing was disappointing. At all. We even had leftovers which I can't wait to eat tomorrow! If you study the menu you'll find that they have so many appealing dishes that sound extremely flavourful. Can't wait till the next time to try some other dishes.

I was excited to try the food at this place, and was disappointed. I ordered the devils chicken on coconut rice. The chicken had some good flavours going, however, it was just too salty for my liking. After a few bites the taste of salt becomes overwhelming. The coconut rice wasn't bad, but was lacking in any sort of coconut flavour - defeating the purpose of getting coconut flavoured rice. My friend ordered the pad thai, which looked amazing! I was able to try some, but unfortunately the dish was just too sweet. We decided to try the roti for dessert, it wasn't bad but I probably wouldn't get it again - it just tasted like fried bread with drizzles of condensed milk. Nothing special. The saving grace of this place was the nice staff, and interesting decor. However, this would be the last place I'd ever go for Thai cuisine again.

First time at Tuk Tuk Thai in Evanston!

Where oh where do we begin? We three had just watched Gordon Ramsay's Great Escape episode when he was in Southeast Asia. Seeing the scenery, the cuisine, brought such a hankering to go get Thai food. We honestly didn't know this place existed. Calgary doesn't have a lot of options for great Thai food. So when we saw this pop up on our Yelp radar, we had to try it. From walking up and seeing the fresh colours, to walking in and seeing the great modern decor juxtaposed with beautiful Thai images, we were excited to see if the food matched the thoughtful decor. And the best part, they had a Tuk Tuk booth fashioned inside an imported Tuk Tuk from Thailand. Obviously, we picked the Tuk Tuk! The menu is fresh, and easy to pick from. The chef designed the entire menu from traditional favourites and personal creations, putting his twist on the dishes. We went with chicken satay skewers, classic dish with amazing peanut sauce, and Tukky sticks, a nice twist on a fried spring roll, for appetizers. And for mains, Journey picked classic Pad Thai, and we went with the Drunken Basa, breaded deep fried basa with green beans, onions, and a fantastic sweet sour chilli soya-based sauce, served with coconut rice. Service was fast, food was hot, and we dug in. And wow. The chicken satay sticks: tender, moist chicken, and amazing sauce. Literally licked the plate clean. The Tukky sticks: a real nice alternative to fried spring rolls, with a nice vinegar and fish sauce dipping sauce. Pad Thai: delicious, perfectly cooked rice noodles, great balance, a great dish for those new to Thai food. The Drunken Basa: homerun!!! Fresh fish, breaded just right and moist, tender, not oily. The accompanying veg was just right. And the sauce- great balance between sour, sweet, and spicy. And then desserts. We tried two of the three offerings: mango and sticky rice, and the fried bananas in sweet coconut sauce. Oh. My. Goodness. Devoured and licked clean. Then the friendly and wonderful General Manager brought us the third dessert, compliments of the house. The Roti. Fried roti filled with condensed milk. My favourite. Can't beat the crunchy texture with the soft, molten condensed milk. Imagine a baklava type pastry with an Asian twist. Wow. All in all gotta eat here. Ambience, 10. Food, 10. Staff, 10. Enough said.

After waiting with bated breath, Tuk Tuk Creekside is finally open! Featuring the same delicious menu as the flagship location on 17th, you can now enjoy all the pad thai, soups and rice bowls in the comfort of the 'burbs. With an abundance of seating, including a table under their signature Tuk Tuk, you have the option to dine in. The venue is very clean, thanks to the attentive and super friendly staff. The desserts are a must try, whether it be the fried bananas (coated in coconut and sesame) or the sweet mango sticky rice!

I've been wanting to try this place since I heard so much from social media. This branch just opened in Creekside so I guess they're (staff) still practicing. The choices isn't much which is a good thing so it's not very overwhelming. We ordered spring rolls for appetizer, The flames for entree (coconut rice topped with beef and veggies cooked in oyster sauce), roti (I'm not sure what it is exactly but it's a dip fried pastry) for dessert, and thai iced tea for drink. The spring rolls reminded me of the korean "Kimali" (noodles wrapped in seaweed and dip fried). Though, this one is noddles wrapped in spring roll wrapper. I liked it because of what it reminded me and I like how it tasted too. I wasn't very keen on The Flames dish. There was nothing special about the beef and veggies- it's like something you can make at home. The rice was more than the beef and veggie so we ended up with rice without viand at the end. The roti was okay, sweet and nice. My favorite was the iced tea, it was lovely and refreshing. I like the ambiance, since it's new, it's very clean. Though their service can be improved, the food took longer than I expected for just a stir fry dish. But as I said it's a new branch. Maybe it'll get better. The food packaging is really nice which they're known for and Tuk Tuk's trademark. We'll come back here to try other mains. It's a good small hangout too.

When I walked in, I was both skeptical and kind of in awe at the same time. It felt like I walked into a movie set or a Christmas themed museum or something. There are so many decorations up but it also kind of just works. The first thing I'll bring up is the spice level. The spice levels are pretty similar to the true Thai spice levels. A hot level was giving me a good sweat while medium was just enough to burn the tongue a bit. The food itself was adequately described as authentic and delicious. The papaya salad in particular was very similar to the ones I've tried in Thailand. Great portion size and ratio between papaya and the other vegetables. It was absolutely delicious. The other reason why this restaurant is awesome is the customer service. From when I walked in to when I left, the server and who seemed like the manager or owner made sure everyone there was taken care of and didn't have to wait long for anything. I will definitely come back here when I visit Calgary again!

The flavors were very good and had a unique taste to it. The downside was the Thai tea, it kinda tastes like instant packaged tea. And our expectations were met, and exceeded! Although it's located in a funny little strip plaza, once you enter this lovely restaurant you immediately know it's different and managed by professionals. We were very politely taken to our reserved table, which they had situated in a private nook. Very nice. For a first course (and appetizer), Linda had a Tom Kha Gai soup, small, which is chicken and mushrooms in coconut milk with herbs and Thai ginger. She didn't want to share with me, but told me how absolutely delicious it was. Full of flavours, nuanced and layered. In a soup! I had the Tom Yum Goong, small, which a Thai creamy style hot and sour soup with prawns and mushrooms. The mild, delicious Enoki mushrooms, sometimes called golden needle mushrooms, were an exciting addition to this wonderful soup. Hands down, this was the best Tom Yum Goong I've tasted since my friend Mai's restaurant in Oakville back in 1997. Dinner for Linda was a Green Curry. Of course! She'll order a green curry anywhere we go, anytime! Served with zucchini, broccoli and green beans, she said it was one of the best she's ever had. Strong layered flavours. For those who love curry (like Linda), she said this is the best anywhere. I had the Chu Chi Basa, which is a basa fillet (lots, actually) drizzled with a rich red curry sauce, and served on a bed of exceptional raw young spinach. This was absolutely delicious. All the distinct flavours were present and identifiable. The fish was delicious, crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. I can't say enough good about this dinner and this restaurant. It's a bit out of the way, but easy to find. It deserves to be known by all Calgarians who love authentic Thai food. Presentation: 5/5. The yellow curry chicken was very filling. It was in a small container with rice at the bottom. Portion size was really good for that price. It was very flavorful. There was a good amount of chicken in the dish. As well, I really like the unlimited cilantro and peanut that you can add to your take out. It makes it super yummy. If you are feeling hungry, pay an extra $2.50 and you would get double the portion. Everything is made fresh on the spot. You have the option to purchase pre-packaged frozen curry sauce to take home as well. I say it is a better deal to just order to go here. It is not wow but it is pretty legit and good. Good food for a cheap price.
