I always drive past Spicy Hut but never go in because from the outside it looks kinda rough - tonight we decided to go in. SO GOOD! we arrived around 7 and there was lots of room (it filled up as we were sitting there) Service was quick & friendly - food was amazing. we ordered coconut rice, a spicy vegetarian curry, and pad Thai with shrimp. we ate until we were full, and had lots to pack up & take home. we will definitely be back. (we ordered Thai steamed dumplings too, but the server forgot and we never got them - which was actually a good thing because we had more than enough food!)

I'm definitely with Cleatus V. and Katie C. when I say that I LOVE the Spicy Hut. I for one have a spicy food obsession, so it's truly no wonder why the Spicy Hut feels like home to my taste buds. It's been around FOREVER, and the food has so much flavour you can't go wrong. What I especially love is that they have an entire vegetarian section on their menu! I especially love their Masaman Mangsawirat, their Phad Prien Mangsawirat and their Special Singapore style curry rice noodles. The prices are extremely reasonable, the portions are large, and the flavours are unparalleled. And if you're a vegetarian, they will custom-make anything on their menu for you to ensure that it's veggie-friendly! What this restaurant may lack in decor and ambiance, it more than makes up for with its food and flavour.

Dear Spicy Hut, I owe you a big giant apology. I don't know why, but I always forget about the existence of Thai food. I think I sometimes confuse it for Vietnamese, but after eating at your restaurant this week, I've come to the conclusion that I have been missing out by not having enough Thai food in my life, specifically your thai food. Your restaurant is the definition of a "hole in the wall" and its quaintness couldn't be more perfect. Your location is central but just a little bit off the beaten path, that means that the people who have found it, deserve to enjoy your delicious pad thai. The spiciness of all your entrees is absolutely delightful. Not singe your mouth hot, but it definitely makes your lips tingle long after you've downed the last bite of Musamun Beef Curry. I will definitely be back....probably this week. Top 5 take out meals I've ever had in Calgary! Yum, Yum, Yum.

3.5* Hahah. This place makes me laugh. To me it's not Thai... it's Chinese with Thai dishes ... and feels like it belongs in a small town?!! :) so maybe a western flare?! lol. Yea, it's also a hole-in-the-wall but nothing wrong with that. Place doesn't seem the most 'clean' and to me feels very Chinese restaurant in the 80s or 90s haha.... especially with the glass table tops over the plasticated table clothes ;) Large portions. Good flavours and... you can get it SPICY!!!

When I walked in, I was both skeptical and kind of in awe at the same time. It felt like I walked into a movie set or a Christmas themed museum or something. There are so many decorations up but it also kind of just works. The first thing I'll bring up is the spice level. The spice levels are pretty similar to the true Thai spice levels. A hot level was giving me a good sweat while medium was just enough to burn the tongue a bit. The food itself was adequately described as authentic and delicious. The papaya salad in particular was very similar to the ones I've tried in Thailand. Great portion size and ratio between papaya and the other vegetables. It was absolutely delicious. The other reason why this restaurant is awesome is the customer service. From when I walked in to when I left, the server and who seemed like the manager or owner made sure everyone there was taken care of and didn't have to wait long for anything. I will definitely come back here when I visit Calgary again!

And our expectations were met, and exceeded! Although it's located in a funny little strip plaza, once you enter this lovely restaurant you immediately know it's different and managed by professionals. We were very politely taken to our reserved table, which they had situated in a private nook. Very nice. For a first course (and appetizer), Linda had a Tom Kha Gai soup, small, which is chicken and mushrooms in coconut milk with herbs and Thai ginger. She didn't want to share with me, but told me how absolutely delicious it was. Full of flavours, nuanced and layered. In a soup! I had the Tom Yum Goong, small, which a Thai creamy style hot and sour soup with prawns and mushrooms. The mild, delicious Enoki mushrooms, sometimes called golden needle mushrooms, were an exciting addition to this wonderful soup. Hands down, this was the best Tom Yum Goong I've tasted since my friend Mai's restaurant in Oakville back in 1997. Dinner for Linda was a Green Curry. Of course! She'll order a green curry anywhere we go, anytime! Served with zucchini, broccoli and green beans, she said it was one of the best she's ever had. Strong layered flavours. For those who love curry (like Linda), she said this is the best anywhere. I had the Chu Chi Basa, which is a basa fillet (lots, actually) drizzled with a rich red curry sauce, and served on a bed of exceptional raw young spinach. This was absolutely delicious. All the distinct flavours were present and identifiable. The fish was delicious, crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. I can't say enough good about this dinner and this restaurant. It's a bit out of the way, but easy to find. It deserves to be known by all Calgarians who love authentic Thai food. Presentation: 5/5. I had the green curry, which was fine, but I have had better in many other places. My daughter ordered the vegetable fried rice, and when the server read the order back he said Pad Thai, and we corrected him...and she got tofu Pad Thai. She hates it when we have to say something when something goes wrong so she ate the Pad Thai, and you could tell while she didn't complain, she didn't love it. Wife had cashew chicken and ate every bite, and the teen boy had drunken noodles, which he devoured. Overall an okay experience, with some bumps. I'd give it a try again.

We ordered three entrees: the chicken fried rice, the basil beef, and the drunken chicken. Just know that if you want rice, you must pay for it separately that's why we got fried rice. All the dishes were mild by default, but when we asked for heat, they brought out a cute little platter of hot sauces which was a nice touch. Unfortunately, while the service was friendly and attentive, the food itself was just average. Everything could've used a bit more seasoning and flavor punch. If you're looking for solid Thai food in a laid-back setting with good service, it's worth checking out, but don't expect to be blown away.
