As soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted with lovely smiles and 'Welcome In' by the young ladies behind the counter. I had some questions about their products and one of the butchers working in the back came over. He explained how they work, answered all of my questions and said they stand by their products, if we don't see something to please ask. We bought some steak and ground beef to try and boy, there's no comparison to supermarket meat, this was so flavorful. We stopped in today and pickup up some pork chops and ordered 5 pounds of ground beef and some steak. They are even thinly slicing the steak for us - now that's service for you! I grew up in the 50's in Europe and this shop brought me right back to that time where service and products were always top notch, and the family butcher took pride in his work and would cut or trim my mother's orders to suit. Grabbed some of their steak fajitas. FABULOUS! Oh my goodness the meat is trimmed and very soft, the marinade is flavorful! The man behind the counter was very nice. This is a real butcher shops fajitas he was back there cutting meat up when I arrived. They have bundles that look good. Talking with my daughter about going in on one. Can't wait! Some people love it and others do not care for the taste. There is a coop in Grass Valley that sells it is smaller amounts and you should try it before you get yourself a quarter, half, or full steer. People who run the ranch are great. Beef is available only during a short time each year, around the spring. The beef is slaughtered at the U. of Reno and cut and packed there and returned to the ranch in Nev. County for sale.

There is a window to order food next to a small, quiet in-store dining area. I ordered a carne asada torta to go. The bun was fresh and aromatic. The beef was good, not over-seasoned and topped with lots of onions, a slice of red tomato that was actually red, and perfectly ripe avocado slices -- all for just over $10. There is a separate counter for bulk catering orders, and a separate meat counter (carneceria) where the fresh meats are neatly presented. A small fresh vegetable cooler is practically curated. There are a few shelves of canned goods as well. There are coolers with drinks, though I couldn't find my favorite Sidral apple soda which is my beverage of choice at my favorite Mexican food restaurant, Karina's which is still in business on coast highway in Leucadia. But that was not worth complaining about because I found a bottle of tasty mango soda instead. The restroom was spotless with rapid hot water at the sink (a rarity in restaurants of any ilk) and ample paper towels. This kind of service and presentation does not happen by accident. It is obvious that ownership and staff take great pride in their business.
