Let me start by saying the food was 'OK', nothing to shout about but nice. The small portion size was a a bit of a problem. I was left still hungry after their Roast Rump of Lamb, there were no side dishes. The location of the Wharf is really nice. Just by Teddington Loch so you can watch the boats on the Thames. The dining area is floor to celling glass so everyone gets a good view. The service was absolutely abominable. For want of a better word the waiters were 'snooty' and very unobliging. We were a party of five. Myself and three others arrived first. We were asked weather we wanted to sit at the bar or go straight to the table, so we opted to go to the table. The Waiter then proceeded to put the menu's on the table, walk away and never come back. No offer of drinks while we wait, it took me to get up and get a waiter to be served some drinks. When the rest of our party arrived, exactly the same thing happened. After we finally had our drinks we started browsing the menu. The Waiter then appeared again to tell us the kitchen was closing in 15 minutes so we needed to order now! I enquired later as to why you would take a booking for 5 at a time when the kitchen was about to close and the received the response of "most of our patrons order quickly"....... The final nail in the coffin for the evening was the fact that we were offered no choice of desert and then were rudely ushered off the table so they could clear away. We headed down to the bar and an hour later I noticed the same table was still unoccupied. So avoid the Wharf like the plague. The location at Teddington lock is lovely but you will be treated like you're a nuisance, not a paying customer. I hope this review has help steer you off the idea of having dinner at the Wharf.

If anything it is off the 'main beat' of the High Street, but certainly not out of reach, although it maybe suffers from 'out of sight, out of mind.' The staff are equally friendly and welcoming. On the dot our waiter, introduced himself to us and shows us to our table. The menu reads well, offering a good choice without overpowering you or using foodie 'jargon'. For starters, we had Shetland Island Mussels "Marinière" and had Roasted Rump of Lamb & Rib Eye for our main course which, was done as per our request medium rare. The food was truly out of this world and is a "must have" when visiting this place and goes perfectly with Argentina (Pinot Noir). Overall, food and service was excellent. I had an outdoor lunch here once, a greek salad and a tomato juice, after a strenous bike ride. The service was good and I was able to put my bike near the table. I walk past here most nights, and their always seems to be a smartly dressed crowd, hanging around and having drinks. I may come here one night and have a cranberry juice and listen to the pianist ( they offer a piano bar as well ). Haven is one of the most fashionable places in this area and you can see why.

Having lived in England for three years (RAF Alconbury - 1995-1998), I have had some great pub food. So after almost 20 years away, I was looking forward to a nice, room temperature hand-pulled pint of ale and a good meal. The ale was brilliant and the service friendly and efficient, but the food, unfortunately, left something to be desired. My wife had the Squash Risotto (£8.75), if you could call it that, supposedly made with arborio rice, leek, cream, squash, and pecorino cheese. The rice did not look like arborio, the squash, leek and cream were nearly nonexistent, and whomever prepared it obviously had no knowledge of how to make a proper risotto. The rice was extremely dry and tasteless, not patiently hand-stirred and creamy, piled on the plate with a smattering of salad without any dressing on the side. I saw the server delivering the Wild Stroganoff (£9.75) as we were walking in and it looked great, so I ordered it with the chips ("fries" for the Yanks). The alleged "steak" strips seemed more like stewing beef and the "mixed wild mushrooms" were indistinguishable from the stringy beef. There were paprika and cream in the sauce, but the brandy was imperceptible and the sauce had little flavor. My wife's best friend had the same thing, with rice instead of chips, having concurred with my evaluation. Her boyfriend had the Harvel Farm (£9.25), which is apparently "exclusive harvel farm beef and horseradish sausages", coming with mashed potatoes and brown gravy and otherwise known as "Bangers and Mash". Being the only Brit at the table (beside the two Italians and one Yank), he seemed pleased with his choice, stating that it was "pretty good". The place is charming, very old (reportedly 1501), wooden and white on the outside with wonky floors and several small rooms off of the main bar inside, sitting on the southern shore of the River Thames. The batter is perfectly crispy most times and the fish is fresh and flavoursome. The chips are thick cut and not too crunchy. The mushy peas are just great. They seem to put some lemon and other herbs that make it taste just amazing. We have also gone here for breakfast and the poached eggs were really good.
