Not once in my visits here have I felt unwelcome or like I have to watch my back which is remarkable considering Bexleyheath's reputation. The crowd is a mix of young and old and is a far cry from the lot that inhabit the bars in the more troublesome parts of the town. There are lots of random brass objects on the wall which gives the pub a sense of history and character. The pub is a bit small and can get a little cramped from time to time but if you ask someone to move over a little so you can reach the toilet they normally oblige without the attitude or dirty looks. The pub does do food upstairs in the restaurant area which can be a little pricey but looks good for something like a work function or party where people might not mind splashing out a little extra. Sadly parking can be a bit of a nuisance. You can park in the car park by the cinema which charges or you can park a few roads away around the corner from the old Woolwich/Barclays building which is a couple of minutes walk away.

This is for those people who are over 18 and don't want to get smashed on alcopops and cider. They always seem to have friendly serving staff and a nice selection of beers. It can get packed at weekends but usually there is room to stand or even find a seat. Good thumbs up. Upstairs they have an upmarket restaurant. Although the decor is nice and menu is certainly upmarket, their prices aren't cheap. When we went, several years ago admittedly, a meal for four cost £150ish. Now you might expect to pay this in London, but not Bexleyheath. That may have changed now so please check it out, but it put us off going back again. Soo Pub - Yeah. Restaurant - Meh!

The service was soooooo slow. I booked a table and it took a few moment to be acknowledged. Staff were just pottering about and not even dealing with customers. Once acknowledged we were eventually led to our table. Took ages to get an allergen menu (their Ipad) then it took ages for someone to even take a drink order. Once we decided what to have (Not much choice for gluten free!) Order was taken and we waited.... Food wasn't too bad when it arrived but I'm glad I ordered a side as my main was a little on the small side! Milkshakes were tasting watery and tea was tasteless...... even if they did use a Yorkshire Tea teabag! For a lunchtime they had enough servers a few empty tables but lots of gaps in dealing with customers. Not the greatest of experiences, pricey for the food (quality wasn't great!) and service slow. We won't be back in a hurry!

The layout and menu remind me somewhat of Bill's restaurants. Big wooden tables and not too fussy. The Menu is transparent and has your staples: fish and chips, sandwiches, jacket potatoes and your all day breakfast. It's a little fresher and more contemporary than it's more famous counterparts. As with any restaurant in a shopping mall, it's quite overpriced for what it is. My fish finger sandwich, although pleasant and filled my hungover hole was average bread, cheap fish fingers and a bit of iceberg. For £6 without any garnish at all, I would say that's a tad steep. Still, what did surprise me were the chips. This may sound strange, but they really tasted like potato! Normally you get the standard, frozen chips with a real starchy texture, but these 'skin on fat chips' tasted fresh and lovely. Overall, it's an amazing improvement to your average shopping break meal. It completely beats the competition in the area and was a very pleasant experience. PS. lovely coffee and the coke floats looked amazing.

Apart from the shape of the room, you'd be hard pressed to notice any similarities as the new management have done a complete re-fit. It looks and feels exactly like you'd expect from a European wine bar, with exposed bricks, wooden tables and a chalk board showing the current specials. On the warm Friday evening we visited, the bar was busy with South East London locals keen to try out the new offering, but not to the point where we couldn't get a table. They also had a couple of outside tables, meaning even smokers can enjoy a glass of wine without having to step outside. Service was on the slow side, with our water and bread, olive oil and toasted almonds being brought out almost immediately, followed by a 5 minute wait for the bottle of wine. The waiter was apologetic, and the owner did admit they needed to improve their service speed, so I'm sure it won't be an on-going problem. They have an extensive wine list, with mostly French offerings, along with a few other international selections. Being French there's no choice of glass sizes, it's either a 175ml glass, 500ml carafe or a full bottle. Prices were on the higher side (starting at £18 for the cheapest bottles and quickly escalating as you progress down the list), but I think it's a reflection on the quality. The £31 bottle of sauvignon/chardonnay blend we had was excellent. We didn't try the food apart from the bread, which was good and according to the menu, is from the French bakery next door. There were set meat and cheese platters available, or you could go "a la carte" and make your own selection. I'm not particularly a wine bar person, instead preferring a beer at the pub, but Le Bouchon is somewhere I'll definitely return.
