I had been a Tucker Bicycles customer for just over a year. And despite the few opportunities I had to take my bike there, my overall experience has been quite pleasant and the service/price ratio is quite decent. However, a month ago I went again to look for a general quote for the maintenance of a bicycle. This appointment lasts almost two weeks. And when Mr. Tucker calls me to tell me the total amount, I asked him not to do any repairs, since it did not make sense for me to make such an investment for a bycicle that I did not even expect to keep, (even I told him that I wanted to buy a GT and I asked if he had any and he said no). Apparently not agreeing to these repairs, Mr. Tucker did not like, since after that his treatment to me changed drastically , being particularly rude when I went to get the bike. I decided don't care about it and a week later, after buying a GT at Dickies, I decided to take it to him for a tune up, trusting his work to get it set up. From the outset he tells me that I have to leave the bike again for two weeks (a time that seemed exaggerated to me due to the work to be done) but I agreed without any problem. Exactly 11 days after I drop off my bike, I decide to bring my girlfriend's bike to them for a simple chain adjustment with the intention of having it ready when the other bike is ready. To my surprise, my previous bike was ready, but with the particularity that the rear wheel had been changed. When I ask how that was possible my bike it's completely NEW, Mr. Tucker tells me that the tire had a hole in it. My surprised reaction at not understanding how it was possible, the bike was new, I hadn't used it even once. Also, since it was possible that they had not called or sent me a message before changing the tire, Mr. Tucker told me that he had called me days before, which was a lie and I even showed him that I had no call for them. So, let's see, how is it possible that there is no record or check list of the good and/or bad things when a bicycle enters your workshop? Second, how come repairs are made without prior authorization! To me the only motive or reason why he did it was because of his displeasure when I didn't agree to have the bike he had taken a month earlier repaired. He was quite unprofessional in the way he handled the whole situation and disrespectful to a customer. Obviously I will not return there and I will make sure that no one I know does. read more

This is a great shop! They are so knowledgeable but not pretentious. I brought my daughter's bike in with a problem with the chain. She rides it to school every day and we really need it because I can't leave work early to pick her up. They spent time working on it and explaining the issue and they didn't charge us. So it is not a shop just for the Tour de France types. I would recommend for anyone with a bike. read more

Great group of people work here, taking care of your bike needs. I was able to get my bike and my wife's bike updated with a tune up. We were also able to add cool new "bells" to let pedestrians know we are near them on the bike. These guys did a great job with our bikes, were friendly and courteous and they love what they do, taking care of others. My husband and I were just in from out of town with our bikes being our main means of transportation. My bike broke needing major repair. Holt's bike shop was open on a Monday and he was kind enough to fix the bike and set me up with his personal bike so we could continue our vacation in Jacksonville and St. Augustine until my bike was fixed. I stopped by Open Road Bicycles this week to test drive Specialized eBikes. Scott, the store owner, personally worked with me to match my needs with the right electric bike. I ended up test driving the Turbi Vado 2.0 model. Scott also recommended that I also consider the Specialized Como model, which he did not have in stock during my visit. Scott placed a call to his Specialized company rep to see if he could locate a Como model for me to test drive next week. This is the definition of great customer service. read more

I just want to say how lucky we are to have this bike shop in our neighborhood! Holt goes way out of his way to make sure your bike is safe and put together well. I had a unique bike and he had to deal with a horrible customer service on my behalf but he did diligently and would t let me have the bike until it was safely put together right. My friend had left my mountain bike outside in the rain while I was out of town - my chain was looking rusty and my tires were going flat. Clearly she didn't ride it once and I was bummed. I stopped in hoping to get some air in my tires so i could take it for a spin - but when I showed them what else had got out of tune - they were so generous giving me a couple adjustments and hitting my chain with some lube. Tried to pay them - but they wouldn't have it. Next time I'm looking to buy anything bike related I'm buying it here. read more

I am a newbie cyclist and I was very nervous to join in on OR's beginner ride Tuesday nights. When I pulled up I saw some serious looking cyclists and I was feeling out of place. BUT Holt, the owner, came right up to me and introduced himself and welcomed me to the ride. A few other ladies pulled up and I began more at ease. Holt explained the "rules of the road" to us and reminded everyone that its a "no drop" ride- so no one is left behind. During the ride he periodically checked on each the riders to see how we were doing. All of the other riders were really encouraging too- even the more experienced ones. It was a really fun ride. I wanted to take a moment to thank Holt Tucker and Josh Flores at Open Road Bicycles of Avondale for keeping me on the road while Matt at Appleman Bicycles repaired my frame. For nearly a month, Josh selflessly allowed me to race (including criteriums) on his brand new bike. Once I got my frame back, in less than 24 hrs they had my bike built and my butt was back in the saddle. In today's world, customer service like this is extremely hard to come by.
