What a great find. We are passing through from Vermont to Bar Harbor. We needed a snack and saw this cute ice cream stand. They also offer hot dogs and lobster rolls. We were told they make all their own ice cream, which is impressive seeing how many flavors they offer. The woman at the window was hilarious. When we told her we were from Orlando, she said, "How did you find Wayne, Maine? Haha! They even sell stickers that say, "Where the hell is Wayne, Maine?" They have the best tables out back by the river where you can enjoy your ice cream too. Plus the cleanest porta-potty. We didn't have time to stay, but would have loved to visit their gift shop. We ordered a cheeseburger & a foot long hot dog with two coffee milkshakes. The milkshakes were delicious but the coffee one tasted like vanilla ice cream with coffee grounds in it, but still good. Just weak coffee flavor, if that's what you're expecting. It's a cute little place downtown Wayne, with fishing opportunities & little table-benches near the water to relax at. I've been coming to Wayne Maine my entire life (over 30 years) and in the past few years have continued to be utterly let down by this place. It's nothing like the ice cream place I grew up with. On two occasions now I've called to learn about the closing hours and both times the young girls working at the front have closed early or gave me the wrong times. Utterly Tickled. This gem hidden in the paradise called Wayne, Maine was one of the greatest ice cream experiences I have ever had. Hands down the best scooping I have had the pleasure of indulging in. I was so impressed with the professionalism and talent that the ladies working this humble stand showed. I had to ask one girl in particular her name, Lilly, just so I could shout her out. Not only was she beyond respectful but she was cheerful and made my day after I had recently experienced the breaking off of my 6 year marriage. Absolutely loved this place. On the way leaving Maine on our road trip, we randomly spotted on the long line in front of this place, so we might as well checked this place out. Turned out it was definitely a good decision as we got to try their delicious foods. The lobster rolls were really good and seriously more delicious than all those sold in the touristy restaurants in Bar Harbor. The neighborhood is really cute and peaceful. Stopped at Tubby's while passing through Wayne and knowing they've got a good rep for their lobster rolls. That rep is well founded -- the lob roll is excellent. Nice size and very fresh meat. The ice cream is really good too. As a Camp Manitou alum and dad I considered docking a star for the "Camp Andro" flavor. While visiting central Maine, we stopped into Tubby's for lunch and ice cream. WHAT A FIND!! We shared a lobster roll and a chicken bomb sandwich, both served with chips. The lobster roll was loaded with clear meat (claws and knuckles), served with drawn butter on the side. The amount of lobster was impressive! The lobster was so fresh and sweet, served on a perfectly grilled hot dog bun. Quintessential Maine...perfection! I could have eaten 2 for sure! The chicken bomb was also very, very good. Grilled chicken, well seasoned, with sautéed peppers and onions on a ciabatta roll. Definitely an elevated version of a classic sandwich! On to the homemade ice cream. Lots of flavor selections. Offering cones, sundaes, shakes, and other wonderful sweet concoctions. We ordered black raspberry and peanut butter. The black raspberry had whole, fresh berries in it. Ice cream was ok, hot fudge wasn't hot but the biggest issue I had was with the owner. Two young ladies (11 or so) walked up and asked if they could have two cups of water and the owner of tubbys said NO! The girls left and the owner proceeded to explain to another customer that he doesn't want his employees wasting their time getting free water (they were empty and there was no line) and that for he says no to free water then maybe they will pay for a bottle of water.
