I was in the court house yesterday, for jury duty. And must say, all the folks, I encountered were…read moreso friendly, and knowledgeable. I wandered around and was impressed with the amazing beauty of this historical building. Everytime I drive in Sevierville I see it towering over all the other buildings. It makes me grin for it is beautiful. It was build in 1896, and got on the historical registry in 1971. This magnificent structure was designed by noted architect Kenneth McDonald of Louisville, Kentucky. McDonald was known for his Beaux-Arts Classicism design. The building was constructed by C. W. Brown of Lenoir City, at a cost of $21,000.00. From its beginning, the new courthouse has been a symbol of civic pride. The courthouse is a three-story structure, measuring 85 feet by 70 feet. The foundation is made of limestone blocks, 24 to 30 inches thick. The exterior walls up to the main floor are of hand-shaped limestone. They were obtained from a local quarry and hauled to the courthouse site by horse drawn wagons. From the main floor up, the exterior walls are brick, made at local brick yards. The tower is the dominating feature of the Courthouse rising 75 feet above the building. It rises 130 feet from the ground and is made of wood columns 10 inches by 10 inches rising from wood trusses. Midway up the tower is a large Seth Thomas clock which cost $1,353.45. For years, the clock was wound manually but today it's electric and strikes at the top of every hour. The metal dome on top of the tower was made by George G. M. Nichols.

I have not been in a Court House in a long time…read more Sevierville's Court House looks like a decent place. It wasn't too busy on a Friday afternoon. We saw no line for marriage licenses or passports. The Driver's License and registration areas had a few people. The security personnel looked serious. They were helpful showing us where to go for restrooms. When we used the restrooms, we saw the security line. We also passed the directory. When you go out the front door, go to the left to see Dolly Patron's Statue. There are a couple of benches to sit on and pass time. One is under a beautiful shade tree.

My Ode to Knoxville!…read more This is a love letter to this wonderful city in Tennessee. I was a first time visitor, and unsure what to expect from this almost week long stay. But it was love at first dive bar, in Knoxville proper. Everywhere I ventured, I met a kind soul who was happy to chat with me and point me in a new direction of fun. It didn't hurt that this was clearly the capital of rompers and mullets, and had a touch of grit during each of my night life outings. Ultimately, I was there to see my happier half play a lovely reunion show with his band, thetheorizt, during the first "Fourth & Chill" Street Festival that took place in the historic Fourth and Gil neighborhood. So, thank you Knoxville for being such a queer inclusive, welcoming city for neighbors. I found yummy bagels, karaoke dive bars, and a community of QT's committed to social justice. Just my vibe.

A dense downtown that includes a number of skyscrapers and the famous Sunsphere that was built for the 1982 World's Fair and still stands. Coffee, drinks, local breweries, unique restaurants and a Yelp community! And it's important to note that people who live here at Knoxvillians not Knoxvillains! (We have the same problem with Charlotteans in my city. Not Charlatans!) Much of downtown is dotted with parking meters. To be honest, I was expecting…read moremore out of the visitor's center since a lot of the time there's a small associated museum or exhibits, but it was quite bare with only a small looping video. I liked the concept of the park in that you get to explore the community, but since the bus tour wasn't running with no plan or date when it would come back, it was hard to make a cohesive plan. I would say plan on visiting the K-25 history center + overlook and the American Museum of Science and Energy for sure, and then just wandering around the community looking at the placards. If you're into the stamps, there's a three part stamp (the rest of the parts are in Hanford, Washington and Los Alamos, New Mexico).

Gatlinburg is a mountain resort city in Sevier County, Tennessee. It is located 39 miles southeast…read moreof Knoxville and had a population of 4,144 in 2018. It is a popular vacation resort that rests on the border of Great Smoky Mountains National Park along U.S. Route 441. When I lived in Eastern Kentucky I would visit Gatlinburg a lot for long weekends. We enjoyed the artsy nature of the environment as compared to the small town where we lived. I loved the craft stores and remember the candle makers and candles that were very popular at that time. It's a great place to rent a cabin and soak up some peace and quiet. I highly recommend a vacation in Gatlinburg.

Saturday July 12, 2014...I took a One Day road trip from Nashville with my hubby Tony and daughter…read moreNoel and we opted to head towards KNOXVILLE..our goal is too see as much of the city as possible on our ONE DAY mini vacation ...on a budget...My goal was a family of 3 to have fun on $150 or less...so the drive from Nashville took us 3 hrs one way. Wow...this is a gorgeous old cemetery...I would say that this is a perfect example of Victorian Garden Cemeteries full of statues and amazing tombstones. We found the cemetery vary easily with our GPS app on my android phone. It is located beside the National Cemetery full of Army graves. They are uniform but still lovely in their own right. The old Gray Cemetery is surround by a stone wall with gates and wrought iron, a perfect example of Victorian artwork. We strolled through the park/cemetery enjoying the setting and the artwork of the statues. There was some homeless people relaxing in the shade of the coolness of the trees and tombstones. It was a little alarming and scary at first but we tried to keep away from them. I never like to be alone with people/ strangers in a setting where I am vulnerable. Some of my favorites were the statues of the ladies. They are sad and yet romantic. Does anyone ever go walking in these beautiful cemeteries like I do? I love the setting of these parks and find them very peaceful.

Old Gray was founded in 1850 and is a classic example of the "park" style of cemetery, much like Hollywood in Richmond or Auburn near Boston. Starting with the beautiful entrance on Broadway, you need to also spot the classic stone wall perimeter. Note that the Knoxville National Cemetery has a separate entrance. Famous interments here include Confederate generals, US Congressmen and Senators, Knoxville mayors, Tennessee governors and even World War I pilot Charles McGhee Tyson who was the namesake for Knoxville's airport (the code is TYS). Interesting & whimsical sculptures are displayed throughout and benches are provided for visitors to sit and take in the beauty of the surrounding nature. We sat for a bit admiring the relaxing and stunning scenery. There is a round medallion in the sidewalk at one of the arched entrances containing the history of its namesake. It's very interesting. We recommend visiting this beautiful, verdant park in Knoxville.

I love that it has a little canal traveling through the park, which definitely makes the space even more serene.
