One of the smallest airports I've come across when traveling , during quarantine travel it was pretty easy, coming into the airport was quick, bags didn't take long to come out. on your way to exit the terminal u come across the Car rental area, if u need a car definitely get it while at the airport we didn't & it was an issue later on. When traveling out, easy check in, security was quick & we were on our way to kill some time so we went to get some food. Cafeteria was closed not fun (small cafeteria) although not a big deal since there was a Ruby Tuesday which was fine with us. Such a small airport not a lot of options to explore, they have a small gallery area, nice rocking chair sitting area's, clean bathroom & some charging stations basically built into some of the seating. Not a bad airport. Currently doing some construction up front but it's easy to navigate. Baggage claim on the bottom level. Check in up top with a news stand. Security wasn't so bad. No KCM if you are a flight crew but they sort of have a pre check. Not really necessary though, through in two or three minutes. Little art section in the middle is worth looking at. Kill some time. Pizza, Cinnabon, Starbucks, and a Chili's type place. (Name escapes me. But they serve booze and it's a general airport food spot.) American and United are to your right outside security. Other gates to your left but I've never wandered that way. News Stand and souvenir spot to the left I did walk through. Get yourself a Tennessee shirt! read more

TSA Checkpoint - McGhee Tyson Airport - Public Services & Government Near Me - Alcoa, Tennessee

This security checkpoint can be rather slow for such a small airport! I've never seen anyone look at my ID for so long! Kinda strange, but even stranger getting through the scanner...had to go through multiple times because nothing was coming up on the screen on the other side. Staff was a mixed bag...some friendly, and others crabby. My husband even received an odd pat-down because of a sewn emblem on his sweatshirt. We travel quite a bit, and appreciate the security staff keeping us safe, but overall, this was just a bizarre experience. read more

I was able to get through the initial license and ticket check quickly and without issues. It was the body scanner/luggage x-ray portion that I have concerns about. I had my laptop, shoes, belt, backpack, and personal item all neatly arranged on the conveyor belt. By the time it all came out on the other side, everything was strewn about and scattered all over. I feel like passengers are respectful to TSA and do our best to prepare everything for them as effectively as possible but here at TYS they don't return the favor. I liked this airport. It was nice and small. Reminds me of the airport in Greenville, SC , San Jose, CA , and Nashville, TN and Sanford, FL. These types of airports are easy to get in and out of and are usually clean. It doesn't take 2 days to get through security before heading to your gate. Wouldn't mind flying in here again. read more

One of the worst, poorly run airports. Do not Book flights out of here you're better off driving hours away for a functional airport. Flight was delayed multiple times with no updates give by staff and no direction or information to when the flight would even board. This airport is a nightmare and understaffed. read more

The security here is a joke! It's one of the smallest and most inefficient airports in the US! The security crew are rude and even if your kid is traveling alone as an unaccompanied minor, they will not let her through security even after I tell them she is about to miss her flight. Unbelievable. I would not recommend flying though this airport at all because of security. She missed her flight read more

Funny how things go. This is the typical federal gov installation. The website says they begin at 4am, didnt begin taking any passengers until almost 4:30. Fortunately, its a small airport. read more

Security here is ridiculous. They went through everyone's bags and made people take small tablets out of their bags. They confiscated a sealed jar of jam, saying it was a liquid. I've traveled with jams and butters in my carry on multiple times and never had it confiscated before. These TSA agents seriously lack any thinking skills at this tiny airport. read more

I am from K-town but been living in LA for years. I travel across the country to many major cities and have TSA precheck. Never a problem, EXCEPT here. It's like they are overcompensating. Bored because there's not much business or travelers so they do stuff to overcome boredom. They ARE nice though. Will say in bigger cities they have cold attitudes at times. Can't win I suppose.
